  1. I love this scenario! I am hungry for more! --Spoiler-- Real Time I unleashed a short drop of mortars on the left town and moved up with 2 infantry squads while 2 machine gun squads gave covering fire. All other forces were positioned to hose the center group of buildings while my infantry moved up on the left. The infantry made it with minimal casualties, and with their area fire combined with the BTRs, more mortars, and the rest of the infantry, silenced the middle section. Everyone moved up and occupied the center buildings with just a few wounded. Then I got a little too ahead of myself and recklessly moved the BTRs up to hit the buildings on the right. Those buildings were full of RPG teams and took 3 of the 4 BTRs. and wasted all of the (mounted) infantry that were stuck out in the open as a result. Finally cleared those buildings with about 20 minutes to go.
  2. That game is rediculous! I tried to learn to play it but I didn't have time to teach myself! I ended up building guns-only scenarios with lots of slow moving fighters and jetliners!! There's also a nuke in that game that you can drop on unluckies.... IL2 1946 has much less steep learning curve but is just as challenging...
  3. Hell, even if the engineers did work, things happen so fast during a scenario that half a platoon may be wiped out before you even realize they've stumbled into a mine field..... Anyhow, I've not seen mine fields utilized very much in 3rd party scenarios, I always try to include them in mine to keep things spicy! Try out my first one at CMMODS, a bloodbath!! Mines are the cheapest form of defense there is, as long as you are willing to trade a little ground and some civilians!!
  4. I did a quick test and it appears that ,indeed, friendly mines will kill your troops if you order them to walk over them! I ordered a platoon to walk over some antipersonnel mines and at first i thought they were somehow avoiding them,...then some poor grunt had his leg blown off!
  5. Hello All, I'm designing a scenario in which I want to create a mine field that is a hazard to both teams. (Will funnel movement into a few different pathways) Will mines kill friendlies? Or do I need to create the field with the mines interspersed from both teams? Also, I have heard different opinions on the ability to play this game multiplayer? Does anyone regularly do it, or are the bugs not yet ironed out? E
  6. I designed one called IRAQI_ATTACK_AGAINST_INSURGENT_HIDEOUT_006.ZIP available at CMMODS! It is my first effort ever, some seemed to like it and many others did not, but it is indeed a red v. red scenario
  7. Wow! Awesome scenario! I enjoy the feeling of my ass puckering up tighter than a snare drum because my defense is about to be overrun!! SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER I Set up my ATGM Strykers next to the garage facing Bridge Rag and set up the rest of my force dispersed around the village, breaking up my infantry units into AT teams and fire squads. I placed a few anti tank teams on the highest elevation I could find, and a few on top of the buildings. I placed most of the remaining infantry inside the buildings. I used the HQ units as forward observers so I would know from which direction my asskicking would be coming. The ATGM strykers were wiped out within the first 60 seconds, they had each gotten off 2 or 3 javelins before they were hit by tank fire from the mechanized units coming across bridge Rag. They managed to take out a few tanks but most of the attacking red force coming from that direction was still intact until they began to come under fire from my anti-tank teams stationed on top of the village buildings, most of that armor was then extinct. Then the enemy began to advance across bridge tag, and by that point most of my javelins had been used, but the ones I had remaining were all hits. At this time my Strykers armed with 40mm launchers came in very handy. They were very expediant in killing infantry that were approaching through the woods, but were soon taken out by enemy anti tank teams. I thought that I may have killed enough for my remaining force of infantry to be able to handle, but alas, a new force of baddies flanked from the direction of the garage, and my remaining team of brave ground pounders were soon annihalated. Very good scenario, the AI must have taken some time to program. There were almost too many units for my old timer comp to handle, it spat and sputtered towards the end E
  8. Meach, just wanted to let you know, I had a similar problem, but I got no sound at startup, just a blank screen. I read in another post that someone had tried deleting(moving) the intro.wmv file from the CMSF folder. I tried this and now the game starts up just fine, and runs great. Maybe this will work with you!? Hopefully so... E
  9. I have the exact same problem on my machine! I click the icon, the CMSF disc begins to spin up, the screen turns black and nothing...... I have a P4 2.4 Ghz with ATI 9600 and 1G of RAM What's worse is that the game has previously worked on my machine. I was overrun with spyware and I reformatted rather than try to get Virus software to take care of it. The game appeared to install correctly and now this problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times! What's the deal!?
  10. Hope I'm not blaspheming, but did anybody here buy Battlefield 2 when it came out. It seemed like every week there was a day I couldn't get on a server b/c another patch had been released. I reformatted a few months ago and I am still reluctant to load on BF2 because of the time it takes to find all the patches, download them, and then make sure I install them all in the right order. So far, this game is running quite well (1.03) in my opinion, with (relatively) few patches. I just wish that I could have more action on screen without my computer suffering from a massive stroke. Hopefully the next patch might optimize a little more?
  11. It took me a few hours to figure out the elevation editor too!! I was pulling my hair out...I get very frustrated when I cannot quickly grasp a simple concept... Like Mishga said, just envision what you want the topography to look like, and make your first contour line the same elevation as the surrounding area with the direct tool. Then move inwards with higher elevation values. It is a nice system, but it is time consuming going back and forth from the elevation map to the 3D representation. I know it must be this way because of "abstraction" and so forth, but I would enjoy an intuitive "sim city-like" interface more, where you manipulate the ground with the mouse using different size brushes and tools.
  12. Imagine the possibilities!!! I used the same idea with my first scenario and imbedded a US JTAC team with the Iraqi army (Syrian set) so they could call in support.
  13. Thanks Ala11_Kal for your After Action Report. I had a feeling that I was giving the player too much artillery support, you have shown me to be correct, you made it through with only 5 wounded!! I am ashamed to say when I was play testing the final version I hardly used the support assets because I enjoy watching my attacking force get the hell shot out of it. Sorry about the Defense left flank, I designed the terrain for that gate to be a possible approach but when I was placing units I neglected to even protect it at all.....stupid oversight....Well, when I revise the map I will make sure to leave you a surprise back there..... Thank you once again for your insightful comments, they are appreciated and encouraging
