  1. I REALLY hope this patch solves the LOS problems... I am sick and tired of being taken out by tanks who can see my units when my units cant see them. When this is happening on flat ground and the only obstruction is a grove of trees I would expect to be afforded the same LOS as my enemy. I dont see how a LOS tool is going to fix this problem, I would imagine all its going to do is confirm that my commanders/gunners are suffering from blindness, or that the AI is capable of hiding a T34 behind a tree stump! VERY F***ING FRUSTRATING! Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.
  2. Dr Jones, I had the same thing happen to me the other night with a Pz2 and Pz4 on those trenches... when I looked closely though, I could see tiny penetration holes (approx 20mm) around the drivers viewing slit and bow gunner... since the 20mm ruski tanks had been taken out, I can only guess it to be AT rifle fire that gottem in the end. I also had trouble with the 3x T34's, couldnt finish the mission with them still breathing... I ended up loosing a Pz4 and Pz3 in a point blank duel... my last remaining tank, a Pz4 took very carefyll position behind them, exposing only enough of its turret to get a shot away and disabled all 3 turrets. I then had my revenge by advancing right into the middle of the cheeky little buggers and roasted each of them with point blank heat rounds to the mid section... MO HO HO HO HA HA HAAAAAAA! Those tankers have now all been decorated twice, and are one mission away from elite. You do have to be carefull with the Pz4's though... they seem to burst open liek a can o sardines quite easily, even the Pz 38(t) seems to have better frontal armour?
  3. sure does... column move gets them there more or less without hassel.... anything else seems to confuse the hell out of the lowly paid lorry driver :-/
  4. I generally only play the 'pause' game when things start getting out of control and hectic, for example, being attacked/flanked simultaneously from differnt directions, or reinforcements arriving in the heat of battle... other than that I try to play in real time as much as possible. Are there any female players out there? their superior multi tasking powers should come to the fore in a game like TOW
  5. cheers for that FinnN, thought Id missed some all mighty purchase screen like the old custom battle unit screen in Combat Mission... now that wouldve been cool... oh well
  6. How do you 'buy' units ie. the staff squad unit I have only seen it once in the German campaign, although Im only up to the '41 Moscow battle. When you say 'buy' do you mean transfer from reserves to fighting force? I havent seen any options for purchasing units Am I missing something?
  7. he he I remeber the mission you speak of... I forget how many times my sniper got er.. snipered by those pak's... very frustrating indeed. IF its any help I ended up taking him in a jeep (I couldnt see any other purpose for the jeep being included) down the hill as close as I could get to the pak on the right flank, then crawled him up till I got LOS on all of the AT guns, a few times he did get smoked by the AA half truck though. Then brought my 2 chaffes into a slight clearing on the right flank, from memory they were protected by a slight rise, they both toook damage, but were still fighting and took out the AT gun on the centre right, then just kept advancing my infantry in a nice even spread, by this time reinforcements arrived and it was a cake walk.
  8. Hi Bluedog, I havent experienced anything like that yet... although Im still stuck on the dunkirk mission. I have had successful interceptors on the french campaign though. I heard the German Fighter bombers coming, called the interceptor to where I thought they were going to hit and he downed a BF 110 immediately. It then stayed around for another couple of minutes and downed the 2nd BF110 as it came back for a 3rd go at my AT guns. Although the fighers downed both enemy aircraft eventually, their main success was in keeping the 110's away from my AT positions. ie, they would line up an attack and then abort once the fighters got behind them. My only compaints would be that the 110's were taken down with 1 extremely short burst of fire... and the sound effects are crap at best
  9. Ive read of a few people having troubles with the Dunkirk mission on the Germann campaign and was wondering if anyone here can give me some feedback on how the hell you completed this mission. Im playing on Veteren level and keep getting anihilated no matter what tactics are employed... flank left, flank right, straight up the guts, feign left flank right, feign centre flank left and right... you get the picture. What is the technique to deal with the 75 AT guns on the opposite side of the river? and is there some sort of secret that lets you economically deal with the AT guns on the reverse slope? I know I must persevere... but Im about ready to chuck in the towel on this one oops...just found a thread on this in the strategy and tactics side [ June 07, 2007, 02:15 PM: Message edited by: R33GZ ]
  10. I have experienced similar thing on the bulge battle. a king tiger seeks out an M10 from the opposite side of the map. The M10 is on a reverse slope on the outer edges of the map... not even remotely possible for the King Tiger to have seen it (or any other axis units for that matter), yet it made a beeline straight for it. The only upside is that I saw it coming and kept the M10 in hold position and waited for the cheating bugger to crest the slope, then wax it at point blank range Have also had massive problems with AT guns snipering my snipers. Same type of scenario, my allied sniper crawls up a reverse slope, when he gets visual on the AT gun, it promtly turns about face and turns my poor fella into pink dust with its 75mm sniper cannnon... I tried flanking manouvers from every angle possible (approx. 180 degrees) but to no avail I dont like complaining... but it gets pretty frustrating
  11. on a slightly different note, has anyone seen any anti tank explosives other than AT guns and shoulder launched weapons ie. minefields... or for that matter any Anti personel mines. I though I read somewhere that these were included in the game. I have only nearly completed the Allies campaign, so obviously there is a lot of the game to go... just thought I might have seen something already. Some type of tank hunter teams as per CMAK/CMBB - althoguh as said above, the current conditions of infantry near tanks = pointless
  12. Just to get back on topic (not that the info in this thread isnt intersting) I was playing the Allies 'bulge' mission last night. Not sure how possible this is, but I had a Sherman 76 take 4 direct hits to the turret... it wasnt unitll the 4th hit that life ceased to exist inside its steel hulk. Whats even more amazing is that all 4 hits were centered around the base of the barrel and all shot from one extremely accurate panther at about 100m... that poor gunner and loader had their brains blown out the back end of the turret 4 times before they stopped firing! shame they didnt hit anything in the exchange. I would post a screenshot, but I cant seem to find out how to do this... any tips? file formats? Cheers
  13. Someone, I think you can issue a 'defend' order for infantry and click on a tank, this should make them follow in the tanks tracks as far as Im aware... I havent tried it yet, will have a look tonight.
  14. Hitting enter again should work. It will leave you at the same view level though, move the cursors around again and see what happens
  15. Originally posted by Slapaho: Slightly off topic, but a very graphic portrayal of what happens in 'real' combat. If you have seen this before whichI am sure most have, sorry, but for those who haven't it should be of interest. http://www.3ad.com/history/wwll/feature.pages/bates.index.htm theres other sites carrying the pictures, as well as some pretty gruesome ones - I picked this site as there is no gruesome pictures (not graphic anyway) Damn! Thats impressive, the frame where you can see the fire illuminating the penetration holes is spectacular... steel casing made into swiss cheese!
  16. I just got my boxed DVD in the post... Delivered to New Zealand within 3 weeks of payment. Excellent I say! I got the DL version as well as I though it would take ages for delivery... same delivery time as CMBO all those years ago. Nice work BF! Cheers
  17. Hi John... I think we missed the last part of that sentence. Freindly fire isnt.....
  18. Thanks for that McIvan... so in laymans terms, we're talking about a magma filled HE round. I imagine that would make quite a mess!
  19. I had the same trouble on the Caen mission... I did exactly as K9crump said... drove around the map with a tank till I eventualy found 2 members of the Wermacht taking a stroll in the fields. Once both had been taken down with the 75mm sniper rifle mounted on my Sherman chasis, the mission was complete Just imagine if thats really how it was in WW2. Geez! we'd still be looking for those little buggers!
  20. Ive had the same thing in one of the allies campaign missions... I forget which one. I had infantry about 500mtr away from a sherman and noticed MG fire coming in on them... I followed the tracer back and it was the bloody sherman peppering them with its bow MG!!! I had to move the bloody thing out of LOS to stop it firing. I can only guess that since the infantry squad was so far away form their buddies and close to the enemy, they were misidentified... happened in real life I guess... Hell, Ive done it in paint ball!
  21. John, it would appear that you know your stuff It just occured to me, Ive played a few different games now where heat rounds have been included in ammo load outs for German tanks, historically accurate or not... what is a heat round? Is it some type of AP incendiary? I could probably google that, but sounds like Im more likely to get a qualified answer here Cheers
  22. Looking at that pic again... one of those holes, probably the one on the top of the hull would be an exit hole... either that or youve got an airborne Pak40 sorry for posting twice in a row
  23. I dont mean to be nasty John, but.... if you havent got the game yet how cou you possibly know what rounds are/were available to the above mentioned Pak40. I have no idea what the Pak40 historically used as its prefered ammo type, no doubt your 100% in what you say, more than likely, TOW isnt 100% accurate... unfortunately, that doesnt mean that Nikki Mond didnt experience an indestructable Sherman... Ive taken out hull down Tigers at 500m - 1km with a frontal shot from a lone sherman I thought the Tigers had been made less invincible... maybe its actually that the Shermans have been made more uber. just my 2 cents
  24. Bollox! I started reading this thread and became excited about the possibility of playback/rewind features.... only to be cut down with one quick and 'to the point' post You do have to look at that word 'possible' 8 years ago when CMBO came out, no one would ever have thought that something like TOW was 'possible'... Im sure if a playback feature will benefit the game, the developers will do what they can to make it 'possible'
  25. Sivodsi's got it... a rewind button was just what I was wanting the other night... 2 M10's laying waste to a panther at point blank range. thanks for the tip Avwriter, I didnt realise you can issue commands in pause mode, will give that a try tonight. I assume there is no pause option in a multiplayer game though?
