  1. LOL at the Garand comment. It takes only one session (heck, one clip) firing a Garand to see what an excellent weapon it is. German semi-autos (namely, the G43) were finicky about the quality of ammo with which they were loaded and were known for their parts failures. SVT-40: decent weapon and OK accuracy, but a lot of internal parts, which in the field are easy to lose; gas cylinder which must be constantly adjusted with a special tool in order to keep it firing properly (AKA, yet another thing to lose in the field).

  2. It's the ninth(?) scenario in the Road to Montebourg campaign. It's where D and E companies/502nd are required to push down to a creek, cross the creek, and take the opposite ridge where a number of pillboxes and machine gun emplacements wait in defense.

502nd? Isn't that an Airborne unit? If so, your guys should have demo charges (unless you used them all up in a previous mission).

  3. There is no mention in the manual of the reliability of the radios but historically they were quite unreliable in congested terrain. I suppose BFC has modeled this to an extent, but I'm not sure if the modeling actually takes the terrain into account. Read more here about the U.S. radios.

Well, there is a reference on page 97 of the manual to radios being "tricky things to operate effectively as distances increase." Whether this actually refers to radio reliably being modeled in the game, I dunno.

  4. Update. I'm almost ready to upload my "dealership" scenarios. I am convinced the following vehicles from the website to&e were cut at a late date due to them not fitting into the June to Aug '44 timeframe. I'd be happy to have anyone prove me wrong.

M4 76w Sherman mid too late

    M4 A3 76w Sherman mid too late

Pz IV G early too early

Pz IV G mid too early

    StuH 42 late too late

Are the salesmen modeled as well? :D

  5. I suspect why many players (US) are finding this hard is they are stopping and trying to clear the Germans out of the small village - you don't have the force for that but you can punch your way through a very narrow corridor and get a victory that way. Good luck mate :)

Aha! Now it makes sense. I was one of those who though he needed to clear the town to accomplish the mission.

  6. Interview with 3 German snipers:

    http://wethearmed.com/index.php?topic=8603.0

    A. Matthais Hetzenauer of Tyrol fought at the Eastern Front from 1943 to the end of the war, and with 345 certified hits is the most successful German sniper.

    B. Sepp Allerberger of Salzburg fought at the Eastern Front from December 1942, to the end of the war, and with 257 certified hits is the second-best German sniper.

    C. Helmut Wirnsberger of Styria fought at the Eastern Front from September 1942, to the end of the war and scored 64 certified hits (after being wounded he served for some time as instructor on a sniper training course).

At what range could you hit the following targets without fail?

    A. Head up to 400 meters. Breast up to 600 meters. Standing Man up to 700-800 meters.

    B. Head up to 400 meters. Breast up to 400 meters. Standing up to 600 meters.

    C. Head up to 400 meters. Breast up to 400 meters. Standing Man up to 600 meters.

    5. Do the ranges indicated by you apply only to you, i.e. the best snipers, or also to the majority of snipers?

    A. & B. Only to the best snipers.

    C. To me personally as well as to the majority of snipers. A few outstanding snipers could hit also at longer ranges.

B added: Absolutely positive hitting is possible only up to about 600 meters.

    6. What was the range of the furthest target you ever fired at, and what kind of target, size?

    A. About 1,000 meters. Standing soldier. Positive hitting not possible, but necessary under the circumstances in order to show enemy that he is not safe even at that distance! Or superior wanted to satisfy himself about capability.

    B. 400 to 700 meters.

    C. About 600 meters, rarely more. I usually waited until target approached further for better chance of hitting. Also confirmation of successful hit was easier. Used G43 only to about 500 meters because of poor ballistics.
