You have to fight for it.

The way this is going, "fighting for it" is going to mean direct NATO involvement within the next 12-24 months, i.e. troops on the ground in Ukraine.

For all countless money spent on this war and the claim that the Russian military is just a bunch of boobs, we're stuck now with a stalemate that has no end in sight and yes, a US government saying they're going to continue pouring funds into this latest foreign adventure, come hell or high water, and oh yeah, we're going to find Ukrainian pensions while we're at it.

  2. Yep, and meanwhile, a small town in Ohio can't get the help it needs.

And before anyone says it, NO, I don't think the invasion of Ukraine by Russia was in any way legitimate. I just don't agree with the way this is all gone, throwing billions upon billions so one corrupt former Soviet republic can fight another corrupt former Soviet republic. Or so that Zelesnky and his wife can go and do a photo shoot with Vogue Magazine.

It's a pretty ****ing sad state of affairs when our elected leaders are overly eager to send our taxpayer dollars overseas to fund yet another foreign war, but they can't be bothered with pressing issues at home (see also: East Palestine, Ohio).

Let's recap.  I post a link to a guy who chose to use his public platform to attack and undermine support for someone who is leading a nation at war against a merciless, Fascist dictatorship that is threat to world stability (generally) and the interests of free people everywhere (specifically).  This isn't some mentally disturbed individual standing on the street corner yelling at people coming out of a subway station, it is someone who draws about 4 million viewers every time he shows his face.

Let's do some basic math here. Carlson's ratings for the year (as of the stats released 5 days ago) are 3.3 million average viewers. That means out of some 331-odd million Americans, a whopping 1% of the country is tuning into him. Yet, it seems like every time he opens his mouth and says something controversial here, out you come with the emotional, over-the-top comments about how he's undermining the country and how listeners are part of the pro-Russia faction in this country, yadda, yadda. Why is he that big of a deal to you?

I thought we were all for learning about this war and having an open and honest discussion about it?  Are you saying that you think that isn't common amongst us and that some are here with other intentions?

See, there it is. Just because some of us are disgusted with Washington DC politics doesn't mean that we aren't generally supportive of Ukraine's war against Russia. Just because we aren't all in lockstep with what you think, Steve, doesn't suddenly mean we are secretly agitating for Russia to win this war.

And, since I'm working backwards through responses here...

The horrible way Congress (both parties) handles national spending is a travesty EVERY year and has nothing to do with this war.  The VA has been a mess for decades.  The economy goes up and down for complex reasons.  Cutting out every penny of spending on Ukraine wouldn't fix any of this, because these problems have been around before the war and will be around after.  So how is this relevant to the war?

It's relevant to the fact that, once again, our elected leaders waited until the last moment to "debate" these sort of measures, had a several-thousand page bill plopped on their desks shortly after midnight, right before Christmas, and are expected to sign off and vote Yes on it, else they will be called unpatriotic Americans for not doing all that should be done to support Ukraine and then be pilloried for it by all the talking heads on the left - who as a whole have a far greater reach than Carlson. That's not how our republic was ever supposed to run.

Say, didn't George Washington have something to say about all this?

Excessive partiality for one foreign nation and excessive dislike of another cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests.

The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop. Europe has a set of primary interests which to us have none; or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves by artificial ties in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities.

But hey, in the end, Ukraine got its $$$, so who cares, right?

If you are an American and you are reading this thread, you should be outraged.

Well, since you went there, Steve...

What I am outraged about is that we continue to spend billions upon billions on a foreign war and that our duly elected representatives "agreed" on a 4155 page spending bill in the middle of the night, right before the Christmas recess that no one outside of the few who drafted up the monstrosity are ever going to read. All this while the economy, infrastructure, etc., here at home has ongoing serious problems, to say nothing of the way our own vets continue to be shafted by the utterly idiotic way the VA administration is run.

Yes, but let's get all riled up over what someone said on Fox News! The horror! You know what I do when I see the same sort of nonsense on MSNBC, CNN, the NYT, or WaPo? I laugh and move on. It's not worth the time.

  5. Some of the very ugly side effects of pouring vast amounts of cash and weapons into a region like this:

“We know that the Russians are trying to sow doubt in our assistance to Ukraine by pushing these stories about misuse of weapons,” Jacobs said. “Every indication I’ve seen is in fact there hasn’t been misuse of weapons. But is it a valid concern by us that we are spending taxpayer dollars and we are giving weapons to a place that prior to this conflict had been one of the proliferators of small arms in Europe? Yes.”

[Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has warned], "Regrettably, the situation in the Sahel and the raging war in Ukraine serve as major sources of weapons and fighters that bolster the ranks of the terrorists in the region."

I have LukeFF on my ignore list for 10 years or so I think.

Someone ask him why I'm on his ignore list. I'm genuinely curious to know. I've gone back to circa 2012-13 to see what I possibly could have posted at that time to tick him off, but I've come up empty.

I'd ask him myself in PM, but alas I cannot do that.

Talk about petty and holding a grudge for whatever reason...

People are judged by their failures more often than by their successes. End users don't care about the bugs that were found and fixed prior to release, they only care about what they see in front of them.

Is any AAR process done to review bugs uncovered by end users in an attempt to identify why they passed through earlier testing rounds?

Sure, I get that, but considering all the vehicles that have been modeled over the years, it looks awful petty to come out and say how quality control has suddenly taken a nosedive, etc., etc.

As for you your question, no, I'm not aware of any specific process Battlefront undertakes to see why a bug might have slipped through.

"Faith, belief" - you guys toss these around like they are hard truths and it is starting to irritate.  Second is the black and white calculus that anyone does not align with as "defeatists etc".

We are not investing billions, in the middle of post-pandemic recession, and risking a slow roll towards nuclear Armageddon because we have "faith and hope" that anyone will "do the right thing" - a concept we cannot even agree on internally.

We are doing it because of what we know.  We know Russia cannot win this war and we know Ukraine cannot lose the peace.  A significant portion of the populations of the west don't have faith in their own governments, let alone one 7-time zones away.

I honestly have watched the Ukrainian government steer a brilliant narrative, a few missteps but rock solid.  But Reconstruction/Post Conflict is like wedding - everyone loses their freaking minds!

You want to propose a non-negotiable push to the pre-2014 borders, then you need to answer the question of how to deal with those regions who have been outside of Ukraine for 8 years, because that post-game show directly impacts what we know.

Maybe it's time to step away from the keyboard for a while if you are increasingly irritated with people that disagree with your opinion?

Can you play without?  No choice really.

I've played without those unsightly grid squares ever since Shock Force was released and don't miss them one bit. If it was that big of an issue to that many players during all these years of development I'm sure they would've been added back in. Like others have said, mods here are your friend. 🙂

Good for you, I can't remember the last time I read you were involved in a pbem. Maybe single player games are perfect for you considering your consistent trouble with socializing.

Very niche single player games exist, sure. But that's a small fraction of the market. I'm talking games that profit and are talked about. CM is on the cusp of this, and if they had a good multiplayer solution then I can see this game booming way past where we currently are.

Lol okay. You've heard of games like Microsoft Flight Simulator, right? They're designed around single player game play.

I'm not going to dignify the rest of your childish response with an answer.

More so compared to that orange f'n blathering, BS spitting pumpkin that wants to get back in again. Surely my friends down south of me are not that dumb again? Good God I hope they aren't.🥺

Sorry, back to what really matters in the thread, Ukraine.

Brilliant idea! This thread the last couple of pages has been a bunch of boring back and forth about Afghanistan, etc., and then of course you had to get one more dig into Trump (sounding like a child at that), because hey, we're already off-topic, right?

And now I know why I spend less and less time in this topic.

When you enlist in the US military you sign up for 8 years. If you enlist for an active duty contract of 5 years then you still owe three years to Uncle Sam in either the regular Reserves or the Inactive Ready Reserve. The regular Reserves you do the whole “one weekend a month, two weeks a year” thing. IRR you don’t have to do a thing but the military can call you back if the crap hits the fan. After you complete the 8 year obligation I’m not sure they can legally force you back in the military. However, retirees can be called back to active duty.

Yes, for me it was the 4 years of active duty and then 4 years of IRR. But, at the time I got out (2007), they had a great deal where if you agreed to serve two years in a National Guard unit, they would waive the remaining two years and guaranteed you wouldn't be required to deploy in case the unit was mobilized. So, I took that deal and in the end it was a good choice. I'd done a year in Iraq and had no desire to go back. 🙂

Wouldn't matter if he loved it with all his heart or despised it. These guns are going nowhere but to other law enforcement agencies or the scrapyard.

It is unclear how the Miami Police Department plans to get the weapons there [Ukraine]. Earlier this month, the Miami City Commission approved a resolution "directing the City Manager to take any and all action to ensure that weapons received through the city's gun buyback program are directed to Ukraine for the defense and liberation of the Ukrainian people against the Russian invader."

Typically, under Florida law, any weapon left in the hands of a state official must be handed over to the sheriff, who can use it, loan it to other departments in the state, destroy or sell it to benefit a state fund. State officials are not usually permitted to send the weapons overseas. Under a set of federal rules called the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, anyone seeking to export guns, ammunition and other defense-related items from the United States must get a license from the U.S. State Department.

I personally have a crate of 1940s Turkish 8mm ammo that is part of a notorious import of "cheap" ammo many years ago.  The necks on some of the casings are physically cracked to the point where the bullet is either loose or falls out.  It's totally random, with some 5 round clips being without visual defect and another 5 round clip in the same bandolier having 3 or 4 with cracked necks.

Sounds like the .303 ammo I got with my Lee-Enfield rifle years ago. I learned really quickly why this Pakistani ammo was referred to as "crapistani" - duds and hangfires galore. I was glad to be rid of it as soon as possible.
