  1. I went through over 150 videos and pulled about 70 sound bites that we can use, so that should help. I see it as a "living" mod. Eventually someone will get bored enough with the repetition to make their own version. Hopefully that will keep the mod going untill no one cares about it anymore.
  2. Regarding the new game from NorbSoftDev (NSD, norb from MMG), it is confirmed the game will be Gettysburg. Friends of NSD were given the go ahead to "leak" information out this week. Also, modders finally received approval from norb regarding making a Shiloh scenario for TC2M. Previously they were lead to believe that MMG was still working on TC:Shiloh.
  3. Looks like the files are posted at CMMODs. I would really like to know what others think about it.
  4. Uh-Oh, these guys are in touble, they are gonna have to pay for those, 1SG always says "an arms length away only!!"..... Just joking, So that I could get a better look at the uniforms during testing, I used an Alpha-Channel to make the weapons disappear.
  5. Good work Webwing, I have to give you a lot of credit, you have an excellent eye for detail, shading and volume. You did everything by hand, using only the Selection and Brush tools, that takes a lot of talent. There is no way I could achieve those 3D effects freehand, when I attempt to make anything similiar I have to use the Blend & Layer Styles. To add to Mord's suggestion, if you have the time, could you make a tutorial detailing how the CMSF texture files work, how they are "mirrored", how Alpha Channels work, etc...
  6. OK, Mord sent me some files last night, a ran a QB and a scenario to test them out. I thought it was very well done, not perfect and could use some improvement, but the overall concept worked very well. I'm eager to read other impressions on the mod. It certainly isn't for everybody, but I think it has the potential to be a must have.
  7. Working on some 1st Armored Division in OIF vehicle and uniform skins. First and most Important, I built on the mods created by a few other modders. The problem is, I don't remember all the mods I used, so if you see your work here, let me know, I want to give you credit. GordonMolek: M1A1 NATO camo M1A1TC: MRS, Track Some historical uses for these mods: The division deployed to Iraq in '03-'04 and '06-'07 In '03-'04 the division deployed with NATO camo vehicles and DCU's for troops. In '06-'07 the vehicles were still NATO but the troops had been issued ACU's. Some areas the division operated in: '03-'04-Baghdad, Sadr City, Karbala, Al Kut, Najaf/Kufa; '06-'07-Tal Afar, Ramadi. For hypothetical scenarios: by some accounts the division was to be the follow-on-force behind 4th ID attacking out of Turkey. It could also do the same into Syria. Currently I'm working on M1A1 skins for 1-37 Armor (Bandits) and 2-37 Armor (Iron Dukes), 1st Bde, 1st AD. Here are some initial screens of the M1A1's 2-37 AR Iron Dukes 1-37 AR Bandits Troops in DCU's '03-'04 (texture created from photo's of my old uniform)
  8. Mord, How's it going? Do you still need help? I was busy trying to turn logs into concertina wire, untill the alpha-channel thing started kicking my a**.....
  9. A lot depends on much faster it is to say the original phrase vs using another method. Another concern, is that particular phrase/acronym easily confused with others. For example, how would one actually say SAF over a radio? Is it spelled out: "we're taking S-A-F" Is it phonetically: "we're taking Sierra, Alpha, Foxtrot" Is it said as a word: "we're taking saaph" In this case it might just be easier and quicker to say "we're taking small arms!" (fancy acronyms look good on paper untill you have to use it) US military grids are 6, 8, 10 digits, the more digits the better the accuracy. Usually 6, 8 digits are used for troop/building locations, 10 for arty/airstrike targeting. I'm eagerly awaiting Mord's initial offering. ...trying to write up some radio lingo and acronyms (there aren't as many as I thought or can remember)
  10. Ok, I listened to everthing in the \sound\voices\american folder. (thanks Cpl Steiner) It all sounds like something troops on the ground would say to each other by voice, not over the radio. (although there are a few that might be usable files) Regarding the "background.wav" file, I think that might be the file to edit, here is why (stick with me) In my vision of the mod..... When playing the game I assume that I'm either the highest level commander on the map or the next higher HQ just off the map (Company, Bn, etc..) I put myself in that HQ's "shoes", sitting in my commanders Humvee, M1, M2, Stryker, TOC, etc... In that situation, I am looking at a map, listening to and giving orders over the radio. A modern day commander "lives in the radio", it is always there, chattering away, although he tries as much as possible to get eyes on the battlefield. While the wind, arty, etc.. is there in the background and I can hear it, I'm really focusing on the radio. So it is not really the individual phrase or conversation that matters, but it is the constant and always present chatter of the radio that I'm thinking of for this mod. Try this, go back to the LiveLeak link, open it in 2-3 browser windows simultaneously, start playing them at 15-20 second intervals. Hear that constant chatter, with those beeps, that is very similar to what a dual-net setup(2 radios) in a commanders vehicle would sound like. (after a few days you dream of normal conversations that include those dang beeps. :-) ) How long can that background.wav file be anyway? OK, I'll stop buggin' you guys with this, whatever you come up with will be good, like all your mods. And hey, If I don't like it I'll just have to get off my a$$ and do something myself (although I prefer the Photoshop stuff). Latter I'll explain why the "Enemy Target Sighted" phrases are wrong.
  11. Listen to the radio in this video: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=94e_1205680977 That's kind of what I'm thinking of, just general background radio chatter. Not neccesarily specific phrases. Sorry for my ignorance, I haven't looked through the files yet but: What is the sound playing in the background? It sounds like wind, arty firing, etc.. Is that a background noise or ambient noise sound file? (I remember a "silent noise" mod the eliminated it) Can we change or incorporate radio chatter into that file? Hell No :-), I don't want First Person Shooter, gung-ho, sterotypical, crap. I know I'm asking alot but don't worry I'm looking for example sounds also. I look for more latter tonight. (I just can't watch the IED attack videos, PTSD and all...)
  12. Ok thanks, Here is an example http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=94e_1205680977 That sounds like the typical radio chatter I used to hear in OIF, sounds like a platoon internal net.
  13. Yeah, I was thinking more of background type stuff, not something that gave a "play-by-play" of what was happening in the game. Imagine if you were standing near a Humvee, in a tank, or in a TOC, there would be the constant chatter of radios in the background. It should be subtle enough that the player doesn't really understand what is being said, other then the occasional "Roger", "Acknowledged", or grid coordinates, etc.. Thanks for trying, just an idea to play with. I'll try to look around for sounds also.
  14. Good stuff, I'm definitely gonna try it out. Seems accurate, human voices aren't that loud, even when screaming. I have an idea for a sound mod but no sound editing skills (and had a hard time finding the right sounds), so I'll throw it out there: A background sound mod that is US radio chatter and would include secure net "beeps". A commander (if that is who the player represents) hears the battle through his radio, if he is in a vehicle wearing a CVC the radio is all he hears. In my experience, listening to more then one radio net at a time can be very chaotic when the sh*t hits the fan. Now, the mod shouldn't to be too crazy or loud, just general radio conversations, with that secure net "beep".
  15. I don't think that would work, changing the Alpha-channel would make the wall transparent, but does not change the underlining 3-D model. Mord, is there any way to have multiple vehicle skins?
  16. LongLeft, Your map is looking great! Can't wait to see it. You are 100% correct about the walled homes with heavy doors and gates. Every home is really a castle there. Also, I'm working on a 1st AD in OIF mod, the M1A1 is 90% complete (1-37AR, 2-37AR). You may be able to use it. If I'm not mistaken, 1st Bde, 1st AD operated in Ramadi in 2006. So as not to hijack this thread, here is a link to screenshots I posted at Wargamer.com during the BFC board downtime. http://www.wargamer.com/forums/fb.ashx?m=301487 I'll start a thread here later when I'm better organized.
  17. I'm not a Photoshop fan boy, in fact I resisted using Photoshop for years when first starting to mod games, always trying to go the GIMP/free route. Eventually it got so frustrating dealing with simple problems (very similiar to yours) when using the free stuff that I gave in and bugged enough friends untill I found a copy of CS2. Since using Photoshop, I've had no problems with anything. It is the industry standard, so using it eliminates many compatability issues with file types.
  18. Waiting on Norbsoft's new Gettysburg game. Should be excellent.
  19. Agree with hellfish, I've read about half the book (like most books I own). I remember thinking "this guy found the most disfunctional unit in the Corps" It did have a "raw" and "this is the real sh*t" feeling and really captured the way Soldiers, Marines, etc.. talk and act, especially the younger guys. Hopefully, this "raw" aspect does not come off as the undisciplined, uneducated, stereotype that infects most hollywood productions.
  20. I'm looking at a full screen forum. Use: http://www.battlefront.com/community/
  21. That procedure would work in the desert also, a desert is not perfectly flat, there are many low/high spots for vehicles to hide behind. cool breeze, the gunners sights on most modern tanks are on top of the turret, so it is possible for the tank to remain 95% turret down while scanning for targets using it's sights. Of course the vehicle would have to move to expose the main gun in order to fire.
  22. cool breeze, What is your definition of a periscope?
  23. coincidence because... I'm just getting back into the game and am very glad I did, never had more fun. I've been playing a small simple QB setup, from both sides, over and over, trying to re-learn the UI and unit capabilities. In more than 10 games I've never had a "that's bullsh*t" moment. It's either "oh sh*t, he got me" or " I got your a$$ m-f'er"
