  1. So is mine, it doesn't have many of it's original parts. Nathan, that post just reminded me so much of "Only Fools and Horses" sketch about the broom. For those that don't know it, Trigger, a not so gifted roadsweeper, is telling his mates how he's had the same broom for 20 years. It's had twelve new handles and 7 new heads!! Really, really funny, but I'm too pushed for time to link the youtube clip that I've no doubt exists! Cheers, Darren
  2. I've been looking at trying to do something away from the Normandy subject all together, as I suspect that will be the focus for most. I've been doing a lot of reading about the Anzio landings and quite fancy something around the 15th or 30th infantry involved in small scale exchanges against the Herman Goering Panzer Division. Been trying to get information on equipment used at the time but I'm sure most if not all of it will be in CMBN. I can't wait, but will probably have to as my PC went kapputen last week!! I think that is called Sod's law!! Cheers
  3. Does all this really matter? Honestly? Just use the quick order, forget about fast for troops and move on. There are far more important things that the small team called Battlefront need to be concentrating on at the moment than a minor discrepency like this. It really doesn't affect the gameplay, or enjoyment in any way. Not putting you guys down or nothing, but the game is pretty much as good as it gets (IMO of course) and this is SOOOOOOOOOO minor as to really not lose any sleep over. I suspect that is why there has been a severe lack of comment from Steve & co, after 3 pages, cos it just ain't worth the skin loss on the fingertips to type anything. Just my two pennies worth, what do I know. Darren
  4. Thanks alot to all that answered. I must admit I haven't played the scenarios for some time, as been occupied with the campaigns that came with the modules, and of course the fantastic red v red stuff that has been created by the guys on the forum. The answers given have cleared the problem up for me. As suggested though, for someone buying this game now, although receiving the V1.21 (which I feel is head and shoulders above any other game of it's type), they may feel that the battles are a disappointment and do not present much of a challenge. I would offer to tweak them myself, but after many hours fiddling with the scen editor, it is best left to people who have half an idea of what they are doing! Regards, Darren
  5. Hi guys, Recently I have decided to go back to playing WEGO as I am looking for PBEM opponents so wanted to brush up on the skills required. God it is hard after being a RT convert. Requires a lot more planning rather than "I'll send my blokes there and when something happens I'll pause and reassess" type attitude. Anyhows, I digress. I've decided to start playing through the scenarios from the start in order to develop said skills. Started with Abu Susah, and within the first minute spotted some enemy units. They were all out in the open, and not something I remember from playing it originally. Ceasefired, and reviewed the map to find all of the enemy had been displaced from their original positions in buildings etc, and sort of offset into the open. I opened the scen up in the editor to confirm the intended positions of the enemy, and saved it just in case. Started it up again, saved at the deployment stage and immediately ceasefired to see the troops were positioned correctly. They were so I started my first turn, only to find the troops had teleported back into the open. This problem obviously makes the scenario a waste of time to play. Was wondering if anyone else had encountered this or if there is a fix that I have overlooked? Any advice would be most welcome, Regards, Darren
  6. Hey MikeyD, Thanks for the test, which has helped me out by showing some holes in my theory! Bit frustrating not to be able to get more .50 cal, as it is a very useful weapon, more so than the 7.62 rifle. Never mind, you can't have everything..........or can you? Cheers, Darren
  7. Hi Meade, I posted this question in the main thread as I didn't get a reply in here......until now! I had half a dozen repsonses saying that the .50 ammo isn't simulated and the rifle uses the 7.62 stuff. As you point out, at the beginning of the scenario it appears they have no ammo, but they blaze away OK with it during the game. Only thing I can think is they carry such a small ammo load that it hardly registers on the counter, as opposed to the machine gun which rattles through the stuff. Hope this makes sense and clears it up for you. There some supposition in it so if anyone with a better understanding wants to chip in then feel free! Regards, Darren
  8. Yep, thanks alot everyone, I can confirm they use the 7.62 ammo. Unfortunately, after all that, he only managed to squeeze off as couple of shots before getting nailed. God, I'm crap at this game! Regards, Darren
  9. Thanks for the replies. I shall try it out and report back. Regards, Darren
  10. Hi Guys, Posted this in the tactics forum but not sure it was the right place. I'm having trouble getting extra ammo for a Sniper team armed with the M82A3. As I'm sure you knowledgeable people know, it takes the .50 cal round, but I haven't seen this available for acquiring from any vehicle. Is this the case, or have I missed something? Only ever seem to get 5.56 or 7.62. Cheers in advance, regards, Darren
  11. Hi Everyone, I have a sniper team armed with the M82A3, which takes a .50 calibre round. I'm just starting "Milk Run" in the Marines campaign, and the unit is out of ammo at the set up stage. My LAV has only 5.56 and 7.62 on board. I cannot recall seeing .50 cal on the aquire menu on any vehicle before. Am I missing something? Apologies if this has been discussed before. Battlefront, this game is now absolutely fantastic, even against the AI. Well done. A real shame the gamer mags and sites don't come back for a second review. Cheers in advance to repliee's, Darren
  12. Have you got the floating icons switched on? If yes, then you just click on the squad's icon floating above the stryker, and bob's your uncle! Failing that, you could cycle through all of your available troops using the + key until you get to the one you want, but that is a lot more hassle. Hope this helps, Regards, Darren
  13. Cheers for the link Combatintman, that is a very informative thread, and your post in particular is full of great information. You answered my main point within it, which is overflying Mozambique and worrying about the consequences afterwards. Interesting thoughts, although having just watched the Politics Show this morning on BBC, and the head of Britiains armed forces saying that they are overstretched at the currently levels of deployment, I can't see anything materialising in the near future, mores the pity for the poor people of Zimbabwe. Regards, Darren
  14. That is a very valid point, although the Pakistani leadership were, if not allies, certainly saw what side their bread was buttered from an early stage. Not sure Mozambique, which is the only really viable neighbour to Zimbabwe suitable to launch an attack from (South Africa are out of the equation IMHO) has quite so much at stake, but I am ignorant to their politics and relationships with the West. FMB, sorry I wasn't referring to a campaign in CMSF, but rather in reality, as I think Combatintman was. I wholeheartedly agree that in the game, anything goes, if it's good, I'll play it!! Cheers, Darren
  15. Combatintman, how would you invisage the British going into Zim? As I said, it's a landlocked country, so it would require cooperation from a neighbour, which I don't think would happen. Also, where are we going to get the troops from? We are way overstretched already, and would not be able to sustain another Theatre of operations for any length of time. Added to that, we are on the back foot now, a lbit like the Americans after Vietnam, we don't want to go into another country, uninvited, and try to solve their political problems, as you end up with the same situation as in Iraq and Afghanistan. I have a solution to the manpower problem though. National Service. Get a bit of disipline back into this country. Not only will it solve our crime problems, but it may slow the immigration situation too, as people may be more reluctant to come to the land of plenty when they have to give something back.....just my two pennies worth. Regards, Darren
  16. Hey, that's spooky!! I have spent the last few days weighing up the possibility of an African campaign based around Zimbabwe. Looked extensively on Wiki and Google Earth at OOB and geographical layout. T-54/55's and the chinese variants seem to be Mugabe's main armour. Having looked at the map, I doubt that either US or UK would ever think about going in, as it would require cooperation from one of the neighbouring African countries to launch the invasion from. Don't think that would be very forthcoming. I think a more realistic campaign would be African Nations going in and sorting the problem out themselves. It may also be a more balanced campaign, as long as you leave South Africa out of the equation. They have vastly superior equipment and numbers for the area. The equipment is also unique and would therefore not be possible to replicate in CMSF without a serious amount of work from Steve & co. So, budding designers, Red v Red campaign is the way forward, the gauntlet is down. Regards, Darren
  17. Thanks for the responses guys. Combatintman, I know where you are coming from with regards to the degeneration of threads. Makes me wonder why Steve bothers reading the forums sometimes, let alone posting responses! Paper Tiger, hats off to you mate, fantastic campaign, that really challenges, and makes a pleasant change from the USvSyria games. Regards, Darren
  18. Combatintman, Thats a good and valid point you raise, but I'm not sure the AI is THAT good that it would take those factors into account regarding the same equipment. If it does, then even more respect to Charles, Steve & co. However, even with that taken into account, when a unit watches it's own tanks roll by, and then opens up on them within 30 secs, I think that is taking things a touch too far. Regards, Darren
  19. Hi, I know this has been touched on in previous threads, but it has really come to the fore in the Hasrabit campaign. I've played the first three missions, and in mission 2 and 3, I have had a huge problem with friendly fire. I know that playing as the Syrians may lead to a higher level of "fog of war" and in mission 2 you have a lot of low level troops who may tend to be more trigger happy. However, playing WEGO, which I feel is the only way to do it due to the number of units, the troops open up on their comrades from as little as 60m away. Mission 3 is even worse. I had some BMP's and T72's advance past some friendlies in a trench, and the infantry started firing at them when they had advanced a short distance. I know that small arms fire against other friendlies does not cause casualties, but RPG fire certainly does, and it is also a real problem if you are trying to conserve ammo. For those that haven't played the Hasrabit, it is at night and I play elite Wego. Has anyone else suffered these problems and what is your take on it? Realistic? A bug? I'd be interested to hear others views. Incidentally, the campaign is fantastic, and I'm in no way critising it's design but more a particular part of the game engine. Cheers, Darren
  20. Thanks for the replies. The thing I was most trying to establish was how you use the interface when playing realtime, but it appears most of you are WEGO fans anyway. Some really interesting stuff has been mentioned especially about WEGO for large battles. I have just found out the hard way that large battles are almost impossible in realtime. I have just played mission 2 of Hasrabit and although initially it was OK, when the reinforcements arrived it was completely out of control, and as a result I nearly ran out of time. Regards, Darren
  21. Hi all, I know this has been discussed before, but I have noticed recently a significant number of incidents where my men engage their comrades, at a variety of ranges, even outside of cover arcs. This was most noticeable with the recently released and I must add, pretty excellent, Hasrabit campaign. Without spoiling, mission 2 was almost ruined by my side banging away at each other, and using most of their ammo in the process. This was not only the conscript troops but the specfors as well. I know it is dark and the Syrians don't have the situational awareness that the US does, but I think it went a bit over the top. It's tolerable when they are using small arms, as we have all found out that this has no effect, either casualty or suppression. However, RPG rounds do cause a few tears, and that happened twice, even though my troops had small cover arcs and the friendlies they killed were well outside it. I've just noticed it on the third mission as well, but this time the AI has opened up on it's own troops from overwatch positions. I'll just sit back and let it destroy himself. I know Battlefront has a huge amount of work on at the moment, and pleasing everyone is just not an option. Just wondered if you were aware of this, and if there were plans to have a look at it. I was playing realtime elite for info. Thanks in advance, Darren
  22. Hi all, Since CM:SF has been a very playable game for a while now, I just wondered what approach you all adopt when playing a game? For new players, I think that this would be a really useful thread, because as we all know with CM type games, the manual can only explain so much, and the lessons learnt from countless hours playing can be vital. I'm not talking about tactics and the best use of the equipment and men you have to hand, but rather your employment of the user interface. Here's my approach for a defensive op to give you an idea of what I mean. 1. I always play real time elite which in itself is a suprise to me as I was a strong supporter of the WEGO system prior to SF. 2. Set up men with small cover arcs to avoid them loosing of rounds at the first sign of the enemy. 3. Click on a patch of land so that no unit is selected and you effectively see what is an overall view based on sightings of each of your units. 4. Once a threat has been sighted, I pause the game and click on the enemy unit. This is to establish what it is and also find out who spotted it. This is signified by whichever unit on your side that is highlighted. 5. Whilst still paused I then click on each unit that can see the threat and decide if it is worth them engaging the enemy or waiting, and also seeing if they have line of fire. This is pretty much how I continue throughout the battle and it seems to serve me pretty well. What are your views, and do you do things different that may enhance my results? Any feedback and comments would be much appreciated. Regards Darren
  23. Just to back up Jonp, I have just had the same thing happen to me today, again in a PBEM. An RPG team on the first floor of a building, the rifleman stayed on the first floor and the RPG man fell off the balony and onto the floor below. He is still alive though!!! I have never seen this in RT which I alomost exclusively play so I should think it is a PBEM issue? Regards, Darren
