  1. oh! Hey - I have a #6 for my list - Rome and Carthage!!! Holy crap that'd be awesome! Modules - Rome in Europe, Rome in Africa etc... I tried Rome - Total War - didn't like it much. Also tried Praetorians - it was ok but I guess I just don't like RTS - you know - build the thing to make soldier X so that your peasants can mine for Y - too much asset managing not enough real tactics and combat!
  2. I think the use of battlefield tactics probably predates WWI... The Battle of Cannae in the summer of 216 BC comes to mind...
  3. I think it 'could' fit... 25 minutes of getting into position 2 minutes of commando raid 3 minutes to wait for the smoke to clear?
  4. One of my cats is named Horus. When he was a kitten he was very fast and agile, he reminded me of a falcon in flight. In hind sight, as he gets older, fatter, lazier and overall less falcon-like the name is getting to be more and more ironic... Poor fat old Horus...
  5. This reminds me, Steve, why can't the flamethrower teams keep up with the recon assault squads when I give them a run command? It ruined my whole assault! (Uphill for only 120 meters...) And when I checked they were not only falling behind, but they were tired? If they want tired, try looking after a colicky newborn all night because your wife just had a C-Section and can't lift the baby and then you go to work on 2 hours sleep (for two weeks)...! (Plus in Warhammer 40k they can keep up, and we all know that WH40k is the end all and be all of wargaming!) Bloody wimpy flamethrower teams! This is a BUG and must be fixed in CMX2! And I want it fixed in new patches for CMAK and CMBB as well, thank you. (Don't try and pull that 'they're mature releases' crap on me - I demand new patches - and this time don't skimp on the polygons, ok?) Thanks
  6. Actually it is a little known fact that the Space Lobster invasion began 2/3s of the way through the Triassic Period . Luckely for all land dwelling creatures, the Space Lobsters invaded the seas of the world and eventually brought doom apon their race by 'intermingling' with the rather normal and boring (if not tasty) earth lobsters. The stories still pop up every once and a while, of intelligent lobsters being caught in traps. They plead for their lives and offer wishes, but eventually end up in a tank in the A&P store in Duxbury, Mass.
  7. I found the C7 to be way lighter than the FN, that's a big plus. And the 5.56 gives almost no recoil (another plus) but IMHO the rifle is so frigging ugly. Now I see they've gone to green plastic on the black metal so it's even uglier... I'm not sure how the boys are finding the 5.56 is performing in Afghanistan. I heard rumours that the US Marines are trying out the 6.8spc as a possible replacement for the 5.56. Although designed for human targets, hunters know that 5.56mm NATO is a varment round, not suitable for animals over 30 lbs. From a hunters stand point the necked down version of the 7.62x51 known as the the .243 Winchester is a much better round for 200lb targets. Anyways, my 5 are: 5) The ZULU War. Module: Rorkes Drift 4) Eastern Europe 1939-1942. Modules: Barbarossa, The Winter War, Poland 3) UN in Korea 2) Eastern Europe 1942-45. Modules: Stalingrad, Operation Bagration, The Warsaw Uprising, 1945 Assault on Berlin 1) Western Europe 1944-45. Modules - Juno Beach, Canadians in Holland, Ardennes Offensive, BotB, Market Garden [edit - there's no t in Juno - where the heck did I get that from?] [ September 21, 2005, 12:44 PM: Message edited by: J Ruddy ]
  8. Break out the champagne, I agree with mD. (Does this mean there's hope for peace in the middle east ) I have to admit that I am a bit biased, because I love (LOVE) the FN-FAL family. I got my first 'kiss' from a C1A1 that I let get a little too close to my cheek in a speed firing (20 rounds in 20 seconds) range 'test'. Anyways, I haven't read much on the Falklands War but I did watch a documentary on it and I think it would make a good module, I just hope they model the sheep properly. Unfortunately I don't have a clue about how well it would sell in the US or mainland Europe. I guess they could bundle it with a module for Grenada 1983 to go after the US Market?
  9. Please tell me you're not going to whine in every other thread you post in about being wrong; that will get old fast.</font>
  10. Darn it! I had to read the comments, didn't I? OK One last post - I *promise* I truly mean it this time.. I just can't let MD have the last word. Wittman was not a Nazi stooge, he was just a soldier fighting for a cause and a national dream. (As far as stooges go, I prefer Curly-Joe.) The German population was infected with the Nazi dream in part by Mr Goebbels propaganda machine. Perhaps Goebbels was a bad example to give of some of the nut-bars that held powerful positions within the party, but lets face it, he was a truely demented person. Anyone who is familiar with his and Magda's final actions in '45 can see there was something not quite right with him. Wittman was an SS tank commander. The Waffen SS were strategically controled by the Nazi Party - specifically (as anyone worth their weight in brass knows) by Heinrich Himmler. Therefore, while not being part of the nastier parts of the Nazi organization, he was part of a military organization created by and controlled by the Nazi party. That is why I personally would have reservations about using his name as a forum alias.
  11. umm... how about those Canucks not of Irish descent... so you can kindly go and sodomize a reindeer. I had a hard time pledging to Elizabeth, Queen of Canada with a straight face... frankly I don't know why we even bother with it anymore....
  12. Isn't your last name spelled wrong? Shouldn't it be spelled 'DesRoches'? Sweet, I'll bring the naval bombardment! Damn straight! Next time try telling Dorosh that the Nazi Party had some kind of connection to the invasion of Poland...
  13. Quit putting words into my mouth, I'm trying to eat my lunch.. (Christ you are difficult!) Canadian Parliament declared war on Germany, not the chief of the defence staff. Are you telling me that the Wehrmarcht didn't take orders from Adolf Hitler but went off and did its own thing? Are you trying to tell me that a government made up of a single political party, with total power, such as 1939 Germany and Russia, doesn't control all government agencies, including the military? It defies logic... I am not checking this post again - email me if you want to continue to try and change my mind on this.
  14. Good point. I don't think that CMX2 should include the command structure up to the point that a discussion over whether the political party in power has the ultimate command over an armed forces is required.
  15. Keitel's party membership is irrelivant. I have a close associate of mine who was the equivelant of a Navy Seal in the Soviet Navy, and also was a card carrying Communist. He was a member by convenience though and never believed in the ideals of the party. Perhaps unfairly, Keitel was found guilty of (amongst other things) war crimes and crimes against humanity, his "Just following orders" defence went no where and he was hanged as a criminal. Anyways, maybe we should take this off line? My email address is public.
  16. OK - lets start over my friend. The ruling party in Germany in 1939 was:__________ The name of the person who made the decisions over what the German military would do on a 'macro' level (Give the invasion order for Poland for example) to the Top Military Commanders was:__________ This person was the leader of what political party? _________ The Highest Ranking Officials in the Nazi party were often given important government posts, in Canada we use the same term. This term is:_______ In his inner circle of advisors and 'closest friends' Adolph hitler included this closest friend and minister of propaganda. His name is: ____________ Before his death, Hitler appointed __________ as chancellor of Germany in his will. You can't try and hide or ignore the fact that the Wehrmacht was controlled by the ruling government of the day, which was the Nazi party. It's like saying the Canadian Armed forces is not controlled by Parliament. So I stand by my comments. The German military was controlled by the German government, which just happened to be the Nazi Party. Goebbels was a key member of the Nazi Party, critical to the party gaining power and in the end was the one Hitler chose to take contol of the nation. Kindly stop splitting hairs now please and thank you...
  17. No, Joeseph Geobbels was a top member of the Nazi Party which controlled the German Military. Reading comprehension is your friend:
  18. Well... Whittman was highly skilled, hard working and dedicated. Unfortunately he was dedicated to a military {EDIT: The Waffen-SS} controlled by a political party of lunatics (Uncle Adolf, and good ole Joeseph Goebbels for example{Goebbels is presented as a good example of the nut-bars in the party}) who were decidedly not very nice people whatsover thank you very much! So... If I knew someone who was really good at their job as a chemical scientist, but worked for a company that maimed kittens for the sake of developing a new eyeliner, would I idolize that person.. What a dilemma... hmmm... I guess in a Good Person doing Evil Actions sort of way, choosing Whittman for your nick is better than Thomas Ferebee... but I just don't know... (I suspect Whitmann created a few thousand less orphans and widows.) But I guess they were both just following orders. This is weird, I keep getting flashbacks to "Father Ted" Season 3 Episode 1 TED: You don't have anything from the allied side? FATHER FITZPATRICK: No, no. That sort of thing wouldn't interest me at all I'm afraid. ---- FATHER FITZPATRICK: And this is the last photograph taken of Heir Hitler. He's signing a few death warrants there. TED: Funny, how he got more right wing as he got older! So how about something clever like "Tasmanian_Tiger"? A little double entendre - Tiger Tank / Reportedly Extinct Australian Predator? 19. "His appearance caused havoc in the US defences, culminating in a rout." In all fairness to the US soldiers, he was dressed in drag and wore a latex Roseanne Barr mask.
  20. I've tweeked the scenario. If you do want to PBEM, the German player should redeploy so that he takes one Bunker out of play.
  21. Well, I'm usually pretty guarded with my scenarios, keeping them for my gaming circle of buddies, but I decided to let one of my favorites go. (JR) Across the fields It is CMAK, a Fictional Allied (Canadian) Assault simulating Northern France. It plays well in single player (something most scenarios I write don't do) as the Allied player and is a blast. Allies have approx 3800 points of combined arms Germans are defending with carefully selected 1700 points. Don't get cockey - a solid plan is key to winning this one. http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/scenario_details.html?command=search&db=scenarios.db&eqskudatarq=896 [ September 16, 2005, 07:08 PM: Message edited by: J Ruddy ]
