  1. Oh I know they want horses, I'm just hoping that doesn't just mean traditional Cavalry and horse artillery. I build scenario's for my gaming group and I've often throught to myself, if this is a breakthrough situation, where are all the logistics units that I should be mopping up? If 80% of the combat logistics was horse drawn, where are the horses? It's not a huge problem - just something a long time gamer like myself would really like to see implemented some time in the next 20 years.
  2. I thought the first release was Rourke's Drift? I hope they model the good bone china for the tea set.
  3. 2 threads! Holy crap it's a freeking epidemic! Both on PBEM? Good God - these Combat Mission people are forum Nazi's... That does it, I'm calling my congressman - oh wait, I'm Canadian... Ok my Ambasador to the US. This regime needs to be removed and replaced with a PBEM friendly administration!! Viva la revolution!!!
  4. I'd like to see Voip for TCP/IP - I use Skype now so it isn't a biggy - but it would be nice - especially if they get >2 player multiplayer working.

  7. Ha! I think the America's Army R&R Forum holds the record for locked topics! I once received an official warning for calling George W Bush a.. well, um.. maybe I shouldn't push my luck here. I also received a warning for using the word effing. effing? what the heck is wrong with effing?
  8. Nuts - I forgot one other thing that drives me crazy - no Map. I'd like to see a 2D map (especially when I need to purchase units) of the scenario area - it doesn't have to be too detailed, at least some kind of 1:10,000 representation of the area would be nice. Even the 2D view from the Scenario Editor would be better than nothing... If you could include a jpg or bitmap in the scenario description, people could make their own 'field sketches' or 'intelligence photos' based off of a screenshot etc... [Edit] Oh ya and... I'd like to have a campaign system where I shepherd a core group of units from battle to battle Although I think I've posted that, emailed to support and yelled it from the top of the CN Tower already and if I recall, was rebuked quite effectively. [/Edit] [Edit#2] While I'm at it, I will add this from another post. Someone please tell me they are putting in a freeking volume control! When I am Voip'd to my opponant and can't make him any louder and can't make the game quieter (without moving away from the battlefield or muting the game) it sure makes conversation frustrating... Give me sliders or give me death! 9. IMHO It's their forum, their server, their money they can do what they want.
  10. This is in my wish list - I thought I'd expand a bit more with a new thread. Are we going to have the ability to have mounted infantry at some point? Mounted infantry differ from traditional Cavalry in that they travel by horse, then dismount to fight. The Germans used Mounted Infantry in WWII (In 1945 they had 6 Cavalry Divisions) and most major powers made use Mounted Infantry prior to WWI. The technical challenges include a need for there to be a mounted and dismounted model, as well as some Horse AI that dictates how the horses react to combat conditions while mounted or unmounted. I'm not sure how the Germans handled it in WWII, but typically in pre 1914, one person would need to stay with the horses as the rest advanced to their firing position on foot. If this is possible, I'd also like to see pack horses represented. The Germans maintained something like a million horses throughout the war and around 80% of the German combat divisions relied on horses for their supply trains. This could facilitate some interesting scenarios, such as ambushes and commando raids on supply lines.
  11. I also asked for this about 6 months ago - it would be nice to have an exposed API to preview your work without needing to launch the game. Either that or a simple parameter on the main exe - such as CMX2.exe ~View~1254
  12. 1) Infantry and Vehicle Formations - This is critial for non-skirmish type theatres, such as the Napoleanic wars. 2) Improved Cavalry & Vehicle Dismounting Logic - This drives me nuts in CMX1 - I should be able to tell a vehicle to drive to point X and have the passenger(s) dismount and move to position Y, while the vehicle scoots to position Z. If cavalry or mounted infantry is implemented in the new engine, the same goes for horses and riders. (except hopefully the horses won't scoot!) 3) The ability to place target reference points while in game for Air Strikes 4) 3, 4, 5 or 6 player options for TCP/IP play 5) More options in the map editor - roads crossing train tracks, rail yards etc... Specifc types of buldings - such as Industrial, row housing etc... Also drawing a road, wall etc by dagging the mouse would be a big bonus. DON'T CHANGE 1) WEGO - if you change this I will not buy the product. [ September 01, 2005, 09:18 AM: Message edited by: J Ruddy ]
  13. Have you ever heard of The Easter Rising? Interesting bit of history... you may want to read up on it before visiting Dublin & Limerick again or you could go into a particularely green pub in Dublin and delare "I love it here in the UK!" Though I suspect it'd be slightly more suicidal in Co Mayo...
  14. CMX2: Can we get back to fantasising now? I don't recall if I posted this already: career mode To improve single player playability I was hoping for a career mode option. When you start out in career mode you select your branch (Infantry/Engineer/Armoured etc..) and take command of a platoon or company etc.. You use your core troops to participate in a series of actions, supported by elements of other units in combined arms actions. Somehow the game rates your performance (Material and personel losses, objectives etc...) and tracks your success/failures until you are promoted to the next level (at which point you take command of a larger element of your branch) or are demoted - charged with dereliction of duty or discharged. It could be as simple as a limit on the maximum points for a scenario you could play and a two step unit purchase for quick battles For example 500 point battle Screen 1: Pick 300-500 of core units (based on your branch) Screen 2: Pick 0-200 supporting units You could even track casualties and modify the number/cost of regular and veteran troops based on how many hardened troops vs replacement troops you have. This works well for >2 player (3+ player) multiplayer, as you could have one player assume the role of Infantry commander and another take on a support role, such as Armoured or Cavalry commander. Two Step Purchasing The two step unit purchase is nothing new in wargaming, I'd also like to see it as an option in scenarios - here are your x points in core troops, select up to y points in supporting troops from the following available units... Infantry Formations Last but not least, infantry formations! I think the option for this is being included in CMX2 - I hope so anyway - because if you are trying to do anything other than 20th - 21st century warfare, infantry / cavalry formations are critical to the success/failure of the battle. In Napolionic times, French Cavalry charging the flank of a British Line is considerably less suicidal than French Cavalry charging a British Square.

  16. I'm hoping to write a utility to make & preview skin mods - but I can't find the 3d models - are they exposed anywhere? (or is there a tool already for previewing mods?)
