  1. Yes...i see that i didnt read ev's post carefully enough!. Anyway...also...not only will movement for infantry units increase...but in fairness...in reality...you cant just build tanks...as resources were scarce!. Which brings to mind...shouldnt there be 'CAP-LIMITS' for certain resource intensive production. EG: The Germans were short on fuel and oil...and im sure their Metal-Stocks were not that good either...so to just build more Tanks instead of Infantry is just 'Unrealistic'!. This is something i would like to see addressed in the game...for all participating nations. With the exception of the Russians and the Americans...i dont think anyone else could just build what they want...it should be regulated to some historical measure!.
  2. Put an auto-update feature into the game...so that the game can automatically look for an update. then all the user would need to do is to specify the location of the install. The download would do the rest!.
  3. My understanding is that there were rarely if ever any units comprised of just tanks only. The Germans used what was called a 'KampfGruppe'(BattleGroup)...or a combined arms unit...which was a self contained formation. The American equivalent would be a 'Task-Force'...which involved similar principles in its structure. ---------- http://cosmos.oninetspeed.pt/dak/dak/germanarmyorganization.htm -Kampfgruppe (pl: Kampfgruppen): The Kampfgruppe was an often used German combat formation that doesn't really have an equal in Allied organization, being closest in concept to that of an American task force. A Kampfgruppe could range in size from a Korps to an Abteilung or Kompanie in size. Most Kampfgruppen were usually around an Abteilung in size. The Kampfgruppe was essentially an ad-hoc organization of different arms (Some tanks, a few artillery pieces, infantry, some assault boats, a few anti-tank guns, etc), more-or-less organized temporarily for a specific operational task. These tasks could be short term or long term in nature, and they were often organized quickly in accordance with tactical and strategic situation at hand. Kampfgruppen were usually named after the person choosen to command the formation. Kampfgruppe Pfieffer is an example of a German Kampfgruppe. It was organized very quickly from elements of the 21.Panzer-Division while it was stationed in North Africa. It was named after the commander choosed to lead the unit, and it was composed of detached Abteilungen of infantry, armour, and artillery. It was used in operations over the span of a few days. The concept of the Kampfgruppe was a key and central element in WWII German tactical doctrine. Many hundreds of Kampfgruppen are known to have existed during WWII, while many thousands more were used but will probably never be known because of the nature in which they were often formed and saw combat. ---------- Heres a good site for better understanding the makeup of various force structure. http://rhino.shef.ac.uk:3001/mr-home/hobbies/ger2.html Ill just put one of them up here: 1943 - 1944 DIVISIONS -Panzer Division Armored Components Infantry Artillery Misc. 1 Panzer Regiment 1 Panzergrenadier 1 Motorized Panzer 1 Motorized (2 Panzer Regiment Artillery Regiment Engineering Battalions) (1 Armored (2 Artillery Battalion Battalion) Battalions and 1 SP (1 Motorized Artillery Infantry Battalion) Battalion) 1 Recon Battalion 1 Grenadier 1 Panzer FLAK 1 Self Regiment Battalion Propelled HQ (1 Motorized Company Infantry Battalion) (1Infantry Battalion) 1 Self Propelled Anti Tank Battalion 2 Medium Armor 1 Armored 1 SP Artillery Battalions Battalion Battalion 1 Light Armor Battalion 1 TD Battalion 4 Armored Battalions 4 Infantry 4 Artillery Battalion Battalions ---------- Two More: [1]: http://www.panzerdiesel.com/data/e/map.html?PHPSESSID=e805818c2554ef64262c16a5a44402b8 -Divisons: The Panzer- und Panzergrenadier Divisions -Brigades: The independent Panzer Brigades -Regiments: The Panzer Regiments -Abteilungen: The independent Panzer Abteilungen (=batallions) [2]: http://www.achtungpanzer.com/divis.htm --Structure and Strength-- Wehrmacht Panzer Division (1944): Panzer Division HQ Reconnaissance Battalion Self-Propelled Anti-Tank Battalion Combat Engineers Battalion Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion Tank Regiment -Tank Battalion -Tank Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment -Mechanized Infantry Battalion -Road Motorized Infantry Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment -Road Motorized Infantry Battalion -Infantry Battalion Artillery Regiment -Artillery Battalion -Artillery Battalion -Artillery Battalion ---------- Waffen SS Panzer Division (1944) Panzer Division HQ Reconnaissance Battalion Assault Gun or Self-Propelled Artillery Battalion Combat Engineers Battalion Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion Tank Regiment -Tank Battalion -Tank Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment -Mechanized Infantry Battalion -Road Motorized Infantry Battalion -Road Motorized Infantry Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment -Mechanized Infantry Battalion -Road Motorized Infantry Battalion -Road Motorized Infantry Battalion Rocket Artillery Battalion Artillery Regiment -Artillery Battalion -Artillery Battalion -Artillery Battalion -Artillery Battalion -- Tank Strength of Panzer Divisions. Mechanized Infantry...would be the same minus the Tanks...however they might have complements of the Sturmgeschutze Armoured vehicles for additional infantry support. Infantry Units would be minus the Mechanized transport but still have some of the mixes of other support that the others had...including horse-drawn support. 4. Sounds great 'ev'...we all have good ideas...and your's is definetly a good one...unfortunately...i dont think SC2 is designed to handle most of our ideas...but, hey if they can be incorporated...then so much the better!. That doesn't mean we should stop fielding new ideas...the more the better. I just wished i knew what the limitations of the game are so that i could tailor my suggetions accordingly. However...if not now...then maybey in SC3. Hey!...whynot make a new 'SC' game-successor each year!. Eventually...many of the complex ideas submitted in these posts could be incorporated into a super-strategic-combat-simulation!. [ May 18, 2004, 09:49 PM: Message edited by: Retributar ]
  5. The Germans in WW2 sent by submarine and long-range aircraft...equipment and plans for much of their first line equipment. Of course the Japanese paid for it...it wasn't free!. The japanese were just starting to produce their own Jets...almost identical to the ME 262...as well as other things...just before the war in the pacific ended. The reason why they didnt produce everything that the Germans had was because the needs in the Pacific were different than the needs in the European Theater...the ME 262, as an example was an exception. Maybey the reason why the Italians didnt produce the Tiger Tank might be that they wern't industrially set up to produce it, or had other more pressing concerns...who knows!. So just because one is an ally...doesn't necessarily mean that...that ally will have all of the same equipment as the original owner!. [ May 18, 2004, 09:27 PM: Message edited by: Retributar ]
  6. Im going to offer another idea here!. In practice...when German Tanks became obsolete...they sent them back home on trains filled with wounded and removed the turrets from them and then with the basic chassis...they rebuilt them as Assault Guns, Self-Propelled Artillery & Tank Hunters for the infantry and panzer divisions. In reality you cant take a PzrII chassis and upgrade it into a PzrIII or a Tiger-Tank...it just is not done. However...for each category of chassis...new types of combat vehicles were developed...from the Jagdpanzer38(t)Hetzer(Czechoslovakian-Chassis), MarderII(Sd.kfz. 131) from the PzrII Chassis, StuG.III Ausf. G(Sd.Kfz. 142/1) from the PzrIII Chassis, SturmgeschutzIV (Sd.Kfz. 167) from the PzrIV chassis and so on!. So what im talking about is 'Retrofitting' absolete retired equipment into usable necessary equipment...this is how i would like to see the upgrading done. Yes...existing equipment can be upgraded within their own intrinsic limits...but, not into entirely new weapons categories!. These processes would be a realistic way to do upgrades. 7. I was thinking that it would be a good idea to install a Media File Button into the game so that we could install our own 'Music' or 'Background-Battle-Sounds'or specific sound-bytes for any particular unit!. This way you dont have to get nauseated from listening to the games dreadfully repititious endless re-running of the same game music!.
  8. We need an 'Historical Option' in order to be able to have a benchmark to give us a good idea as to what an alternate choice would have had on the war!.
  9. i cant delete this post!!! [ May 17, 2004, 09:40 PM: Message edited by: Retributar ]
  10. Also...ive read about Map Limitation size problems in the game!. Well...whynot do what 'WIR' War In Russia did...at least they had the concept...they divided the German War Effort into 3 distinct regions. West-Front, East-Front & South-Front(From Italy & Down). this-way we could have 3 Large maps for each region...and then the excuse about HEXES limiting map-size would instantly become HISTORY!. Also...the game would play much better as well...thats my belief!.
  11. I like ' Marklavar's ' comment..this is what TOAW used...and it worked out just fine. 'marklavar' originally posted April 15, 2004 07:11 PM -"I don't like the new tiles. Why not just stick with the hexes and introduce stacking? This would seem to me to be more historically realistic". Of course in TOAW...the more units you stacked in one hex the less-effective they became per unit, what i mean by that is they lose more and more of their percentage of their hit-power as more units stack. Stacked Units also became Fatigued more rapidly as well...so i personally prefer hexes and stacking...but am willing to give tiles the chance to prove themselves. Also...when a stack is attacked...they will take more than their normal-regular percentage of losses per unit...so a price would be extracted on offense and defense for stacking units. 12. I like the idea of STRATEGIC COMMAND2's Overall Map...no problem there!...but, say i would like to play a specific SCENARIO instead of the whole CAMPAIGN game!. The 'Battle For Italy' would be a good-example...with a FULL-BLOWN-MAP-OF-ITALY one could explore this battle in greater depth...why-not have full-blown larger scale maps for these 'Specific-Regional-Battles'!. This idea appeals to me very much. Any chance of that later as an add-on?.
  13. Any Panzer-General 2 Fans here?. Well, anyway if you have played PG2 you will have come across many new features for this game. What we have in this game is...Sound bytes for every type of unit...as well as for the Special-Effects....we have Visual Explosions for the ground units, sea units and for the air units. There is also various camouphlage' Packages for different re-vamped Equipment sets!. Many of the enhancements were made by Fans who modified the original files. I still play this old-game...close to 10 years now ...and will continue to play it for many more!. I don't know how good the sound and visual effects will be in STRATEGIC COMMAND2 - BLITZKRIEG ... im hoping it will be a thrill to the eyes and ears!. ***One more thing...instead of 'Just-MUSIK' playing in the game background...i would like to have the option to play 'Background Battle-Sounds'...you know (Regular Unit sound-effects would still be predominant over the background Battle-Sounds)...the rumble of a hub-to-hub rolling artillery barrage...the stataco of Automatic Weapons Fire....Grenade and Mortar Noises...the Screeching & Howling of Katyusha-Rockets, Nebelweffer and Wurfrahmen Artillery...with some Tank sounds blended in. AND SO ON!.*** Infantry marching sounds...Tank, Truck, Ship & Aircraft sounds...etc, would of course be for all the separate units in the game!. 14. Just have an option to use the actual real-flags or have a way to update or change the flags after the sale of the game is done!. I prefer the actual flags!.
  15. Sounds Terrific to me too!. Looks like we've got a lot of very-experienced Hard-Core gamers here giving suggestions!...i can tell!. Nothing like 'EXPERIENCE'!.
  16. I really like your ideas and suggestions 'Edwin P.'... idea-wise it's a great-idea...but, it might be very difficult to come up with an AI programme that can do all that!. Maybey it can be done!. Now to continue on your line of thought...'Saukopf' mentioned the Canadian Raid at Dieppe...and it was just that...a RAID, not an INVASION. What im thinking of is that the AI could have choices...to use various sized smaller raiding parties like the 'British Commando's' & the 'Canadian' invasion for harrasment tactics to de-stabalize the Germans (by forcing Force-Buildup in the Area) and also use Larger Force Sizes when necessary for actual-invasions...like that at 'ANZIO'. The Allied-Invaders should also have a work-in to with-draw if resistance is too stiff!. --------------- As for 'INTELLIGENCE' regarding troop-deployments..., yes...the Allied-AI could use Probing air-reconnaissance efforts as well as using the 'Free-French' resistance fighters (Invisible to the Germans) as a resource to help determine where the German Forces are stationed!. Free-French Units would be 'INVISIBLE' and would not be restricted by the zone-of-control from enemy units. They could become visible once they have detected the actual composition of an enemy unit. To Detect the 'ACTUAL' make-up of the enemy...the resistance unit would bump up against a grey-colored unit...but, would not know what it is...unless you opt to do a close-in 'RECON' fact-finding mission. How that concept could really work... or should it be at all in the game is just a 'Who-Knows'...would have to play-test it to see if that idea is worth anything!. You would only have a very few of these units in the game ...and so would need to use them 'ONLY' when absolutely necessary...like for the Invasion Of Europe!.
  17. Yes...the 'Malta-Effect' was very important!. The allies had broken the German-Codes (progect called "ULTRA")... and knew when every single supply transport ship was going to supply 'Rommel'. I forget exactly...but the 'British' destroyed about 85% of these ships that were sent to North-Afrika!. They could have sunk them all from 'Malta'...but, wisely decided to let a few go through so that the Germans would not suspect that their communications had been comprimised!. Had 'Malta' been captured...Rommel may have very well have won in North Afrika and then subsequently have moved up to the Middle East ...then onto the Oil Fields of Iraq and the Caucasus regions!.
  18. ***I would like to add some of my own thoughts on this subject...but, they are only my wishful thinkings...as i do not know what the game is capable of handling...or even if any of my ideas are worth the effort, or any effort at all!. *** ------- First...i want to say that i like the way that the ideas are heading here!. I would like to really see some new gaming technology in this game...im getting somewhat bored with the same-old same-old gaming methods. By-The-Way...i like the Graphics that i see in this game...they truely look magnificent!. Perhaps add the choice to have Camouflage' on the units...maybey later in a patch!. Straight Grey or Straight Olive-Drab-Green will suffice...but, Hey!...why-not some Spice!. The 'Camouflage' could self-adjust itself for the particular theatre or season!. ------ To add more to the discussion now,...the research and development could or should be as realistic as is reasonable for the design limits and other aspects of the game development(Including Monetary Limits for such)!. It could be adjusted to suite a players personal preference...from 'Exactly Historical' research to...research that can be initiated 'sooner than' or 'later than' as was 'Historically'done!('Some-what random' for either way... or fixed as 'sooner' or fixed as 'later'). EG: The Germans had a working Jet in 1938 or 1939 and the possibility of developing the Atom-Bomb'...but, decided that it would not be necessary!. Even have the option to set the range of research and development only say from 1938 to the 1943 parameters...which would be less than 'Historical'!. "HEARTS OF IRON" had a Complicated,Deep Research line/Engine in the game!... i didn't care for it at first...but, got to like it as i played the game!...it was also an eye-opening experience!. ------ --Another thing,...access to 'Strategic Materials' Metal, Coal, Oil etc could at the players discretion/selection... have a bearing on the game!...in deciding who and when you will attack... at what stage of your 'War-Strategie'. If you have an Oil-Shortage, then your armies are restricted accordingly to your supply,...So now say that you had previously researched 'Synthetic-Oils' for example, then you would not need to rely entirely on the 'Ploesti Oil-Fields/Refineries'... or whatever...what a difference that could make!. ------ Now...for more unecessary stuff!. Even though its not necessary...i would like to be able to see my factories in action (By accessing my Factory List)...Then see the production of my New-Tanks , Jets or Battle-Ships or what-ever...and, also be able to see a completely '3D-Rotatable' image of whats being Constructed or Developed,...it would be enjoyable eye-candy!. As was historical too,...when new technologies are arrived at, 'Factories' would need to have enough time to 're-tool' before another production item could be cranked out!...This would make you think twice before setting any new production orders!. ------ The Fuhrer'-Directive (could be switched 'on' or 'off'): This was for the German-Side a real-spoiler!...it prevented Jets from being developed sooner...and when the jets were finally developed...something like 10% or so were developed as 'Fighters'...the rest as 'Fighter-Bombers'...which was only one of many Stupid 'Fuhrer-Decree' mistakes from Adolf-Hitler!. Had Germany had these jets as 'Fighters' earlier in the war and in greater numbers...the Allies would not have had 'Air-Supremacy' like they did!. What a difference that would make!. Of course, this event... would then trigger a stepped up programme for jets from the Allies side now!. ------ I could go on and on...but, that's it for now!.
