  1. Thanks: it would be helpful to have an 'official' list for these tags.
  2. This I may call a... good start! I don't believe it would be that complicated to add the possibility to include modded uniforms and tanks markings, maybe adding a command line in a campaign script, or the possibility to chose a file from the editor...
  3. Iirc there was a scenario in CMAK depicting the first appearance of the tiger on a battlefield. A battery of British 6 pdr in a small whadi (depression) with some rocks and a few palm trees in entrenched positions on one side and the monster on the other. It was impossible to stop: the tiger just moved as it pleased, shot its rounds and destroyed all guns, while its MGs were harvesting anyone in sight. Against the red army it was a completely different tale, because in the end they had better weapons than the nazis. As for the FI battle I did not even waited for the at gun to arrive as the lucky shot penetrated the turret and only three of the crews jumped out to be taken prisoners a few minutes later: the gunner and tank commander were still at their posts both headless, as one of the soldier excitedly reported in the after action... :-)
  4. Michael, you have PM (not to spoil that battle here for everyone).
  5. Ah, thanks for the information! I did not notice that you can chose these features in the Editor, but then I still have to use it in the v.2. Supposedly these are available also on BN/CW/MG, i'n'it? Where are these exactly? Can you help please?
  6. OK, I've found a hint reference in the CMx2 v.2.0 Upgrade page: Still I cannot find any other details: has this been improved or not?
  7. It's funny you ask it as just last night I played a well designed battle for FI titled 'Catch a Tiger' iirc where you have exactly that nightmare situation: a reinforced inf platoon with three bazookas coming into a gully where at the bottom they spot an immobilized monster across a small bridge. Unluckily the monster is stll alive and kicking, and some enemy troops are moving around it. I was able and lucky enough to catch it by its tail, making a penetrating shot on the turrett's rear by the best bazooka's team I had who was able to move undetected to a vantage and close position, while the rest on the troops were attacking from a different direction and the mortar playing havoc around the immobilized tank to all the squads who were nearby and in the hope of finding the lucky hit. I did not need the at gun coming up as reinforcement as the enemy collapsed very quickly after I also knocked out another armored car. A good scenario where you have to apply several basic notions, and be very careful in moving the troops.
  8. I'm revising my two campaign and started to think about some of the features that were present in CMX1 campaigns that I sorely miss, namely the damaged terrain, knocked out vehicles and troops' positions recorded in each battle and replaced back in the subsequent one. That was a neat feature that added a great immersion factor playing a campaign, besides it simulates quite well the micro-landscape a soldier is likely to perceive during a battle and a good system for finding his ways through the chaos using them as landmarks. Would it be possible to have it back? That would be just great. I also miss the possibility to create a single campaign that could be played against the computer choosing any side having AI plans for each Allied and Axis included. It should also be possible to play the Campaign by email and not just using hotseat.
  9. Hello Gents, iirc I did actually read in the manual or in some readme/faq about this feature, but cannot find it again. Was this option introduced with CMX2 v.2? I'm talking about the possibility to create a campaign or a battle in the editor, including some MODs for uniforms and armor paintings. Am I daydreaming or is that possible? And if so, can someone please list on how to implement it? If this has been already discussed in depths I wasn't able to find it: any clarification would me most welcomed. TIA
  10. Still alive and kicking... (not). At the mo' I'm busy on a few other things: I still have to finish playin' a single battle with FI but I also have quite a few ideas to create some on that theater. So many things to do and so short a time. Cheers
  11. I've missed this titanic thread (but I've not read it all, I admit)! Going back to SPR I overall liked the movie, and it was a milestone in the war gender movies: what really got me annoyed, now and then was the too simplistic choices the Production and Director made: for a start the beach landing and the confusion of battle in the way is depicted was amazing but they should have added that the HMG bunkers on Omaha were firing enfilade fire, hidden from view from the front beach; this would have added a mistery on how the men got hit when finally got ashore. A minor fault. As for accuracy, I believe it's the bait to lure us history buffs into following the story, no matter if it may develop into something far from reality: a squad of Elite Rangers sent to rescue a single Paratrooper? I'm OK with that, eventually. Why a complete corporal from rear echelons should join them? To be able to freeze in action and have the brave guys die, but not before he can walk along chatting as in a picnic while on the move beyond enemy lines (while the rest of the squad is doing just the same?). What about Steamboat Willie? Do you remember that ferocious SS trooper manning the HMG that so cleverly was attacked frontally (and of course the Corpsman out in front to get killed): he got smokes, was close to be shot, but saved by the complete corporal just to be able to join his lot of Nazi Skins (why all them had shaved heads?) and kill Tom Hanks? Should I say more? This is why I like accurate war movies, but I don't care about a faked Tiger tank, if at least looks alike, seemingly. Of course Spielberg & co. redeemed themselves with the Greatest WWII movie BoB and the Pacific: two very different subjects, but I loved them both. Cannot stand crap like Pearl Harbor: two Fighter jockeys that can do maneuvers against the nimblest Zeros with their P-40s that none dreamed of in reality else you got shot down very quickly; but wait a minute: the next day they can join the most skillful Bomber Crews and are able to take off from a Carrier on a B-25 none had done before. And the final scene: I hate melodrama! I mean I like Tragedy (Go And See), or Drama (Ivan's Childhood) and even Comedy (Situation Hopeless... But Not Serious) in war movies, but not melodrama! I appreciate when in a War movie there is attention to details to convey an interesting story: A Bridge At Remagen was the first movie where you actually see German HT and not the ubiquitous M3 with crosses painted. Burma with Erroll Flinn was just amazing, and a great story telling. Das Boot was magnificent and I also liked Stalingrad and the Downfall, made by the Germans. In small productions I appreciated A Midnight Clear, The Long Day's Dying, Attack!: this last is also quite interesting if you like to consider the subject 'chain of command' as mentioned in this thread; other excellent examples on this same matter are Twelve O' Clock High and I also like to mention The Gallant Hours. Flags Of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima I consider them as one Great war movie, but I also liked immensely the visionary depiction and introspection in The Thin Red Line. I saw Saints and Soldiers but I wasn't enthusiast about it: for me the big let down was the comic striped sergeant that actually had (like in comics) the three bars painted on the front of his helmet; a poor woman living in the Ardennes' forest makes bred with white flower, and of 'course in her isolated house she has aluminum thin foils... What? In the '40s during a World Wide War? That turn me off completely. Possibly I also suffer from a little OCD but as I said: either the story is very compelling or there should be a very great attention to details. As for films books' inspired, the greatest delusion came with Enemy At The Gate: such a great book, with so many stories and battles, you could have made a huge series out of it, but instead they hire a director that cares nothing about the book and build a story on two single characters that in the book are not even mentioned being completely fictional. I know, they can always say it was inspired by the book! But why not title it High Noon In Stalingrad? Pity, since the production and FSX were good enough, as well as the cast: a lost occasion. ...
  12. Good work! Thanks... Any chance you may come up with a similar one for CMBN too?
  13. Good to know waffelmann: I will wait and see to test other uniforms sets if they work with 2.0. More than the Red Berets I would like to see the Green Berets in one battle, but I'm afraid you cannot have both Red & Green berets at the same time, unless you do change the battle orders. I still have to re-catch up with those Mods and threads we've discussed this possibility...
  14. Besides vehicles, I also read there are troubles with the naming conventions used for the uniforms in v.2 and that's the reason why you get mixed up results. Another interesting new feature it's the bump mapping contained (?) in the new textures: I'm not sure it's also used for vehicles, but this might be very stimulating for creating detailed 3D effects on otherwise flatten surfaces. I would suggest all Modders to take notice about these two relevant changes, and update their creations: I would appreciate the v.2 tag added to these new and revised releases.
  15. A-Men! Thanks Jon. very helpful as usual. It bugs me I missed it: too many distractions, as usual...
  16. I still cannot find how to assign uniforms to specific units in the scenario Editor? Admittedly 2.0 is out since just a few days now and I installed it without yet extensively playing it around, but I still was hoping someone would kindly point me on the right direction about this feature: I cannot find any reference in the manual on how to do it, or a button somewhere in the Editor. Any help would be much appreciated. TIA
  17. eheheh I'm not sure it actually does make sense: usually if you compress a B&W (not a gray scale one) you get a larger file; the gray scale one may contain only 8 bit data so it should be smaller than a 24 bit one, or a 32 bit one (+ Alpha). But I fully trust you! Eventually I think that the compression rates are more relevant not with the number of colors but with the degree of contrast: as I see your tweaked version is toned down a bit, so less contrasting than the general one and that may be the cause. At present I think I like better the reddish version, but I'm glad I have the option to change now and then. Thanks M8!
  18. Juju, great stuff as usual! Thanks: I've just a doubt about the two archives you have at GAJ since one is 12 MB (General) and the other only 5 MB (Tweaked UI)... I still have to unpack them: are these complementary installs?
  19. I don't think so: easiest way to check is to copy them in Z folder, load some saved battle and have a look at a specific place; thereafter you can remove them from Z folder and load back the same scene and compare the difference...
  20. Mac Pro 5.1 with nVidia GTX460 1GB, while the laptop is a Macbook Pro Penryn with nVidia 8600M GT 512 MB: on both I can notice these subtle improvements...
  21. I checked the shader fixers more closely and indeed they are a nice improvement, at least in daylight: less artifacts and a better distribution of light that makes the colors more realistic...
  22. I confirm they can work on both FI v1.1 and BN v.2 but I'm not so sure they make a relevant difference with those two versions... Actually I noticed those files only after I used the FI DVD install and not the downloaded version I had previously installed on the Laptop; now that I have the Mac Pro updated too I can check if there are real improvements in using them in the Z folder...
  23. Yep, I believe I understood the problems regarding these issues, alex: it's just you have to apply the trial and error method and see what comes. My point is that when you read the new 2.0 features (all of them MOST welcomed, thanks! ) there is a specific point where in the Editor you should be able to select Special Uniforms for specific units, so that you may include (?) this option in designing a specific scenery.... I admit I haven't as yet opened the Editor, so possibly is just as simple as that: looking for the option when assigning units to the battle... I wasn't able to find in the manual a proper paragraph or chapter dealing with the needed procedures/requirements to implement this very nice option. Of course we also have the problem of MODs compatibility with the Default system as well as with the relative changes brought with 2.0, but I'm positive it would be a great stride forward...
  24. I resurrect this thread since I'm thinking of making a v.1.1 version for this Campaign: I've read now it would be possible to include modded uniforms in the v.2 Engine, and that would fit perfectly here to mix the Commandos and Paras, but I wasn't able to find any relevant information in the manual. I would appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction! TIA
