  1. They couldnt have done it ,,, The german economy was not ready for war, The german military was not equiped for the weather or terrain,,, The german NAVY was left out of the loop entirely ,,, ( and was not equiped for the war anyway) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'll explain that navy reference ,,, Germany needed 2 aircraft carriers in the black sea, and 2 carriers in the gulf of helsinki, both supported by fleets, plust a fleet with carriers in the baltic ,, and a fleet with carriers in the north sea ,, and another in the mediteranian, , thats 5 fleets ,, each with 2 carriers ,, 10 carriers ,, each with its supporting cruisers, destroyers etc ,,,, , and thats just for war with the soviets ,,, lets not forget england,, thats another fleet in the red sea to block the suez ,, another fleet in the caribean, another off south africa , another off the st laurence basin, and one more for each of the east end of the english channel, the west end ,, the irish sea, the west coast of ireland , the scotish coast, and gibralter, 10 more fleets ,, each with its pair of carriers, ,, germany had exactly, 1,(ONE) carrier,, and of course the german racial/religious policy cost them the russian people ,,,

  3. looks like the democracyists are out in force,,, spewing democracy propaganda, and democracy venom,,, conquer a people,, and never let them rest, keep jabbing them with old propaganda,, taunt them,, gloat at them,, you put their leaders on "trial" to justify executing them,,,, and now you still threaten them with your "trials", its a cruel way to rule an empire,, but i suppose it keeps most slaves cowed and intimidated,, you want to persecute a tired old man because he was on the side that lost,,, its easy to do,, the vanquished are weak,, "kick em when they're down" is the way of the democracy,, leave the poor old guy alone, he faught for his unit, his country, suffered and bled, he shouldnt have to "defend his actions in court",
  4. A target reference point is actualy two things,,,, 1) a preregistered off map artilery target point,, and a priority for your off map guns,,, for faster called artilery strikes, 2) a preregistered target for on map guns and mortars,,,, as long as your gun or mortar does not move ,, you can place a TRP anywere on the map,, even out of LOS and called artilery strikes will hit it fast,,
  5. Germany lost at kursk, get over it,,, they lost at kursk the moment they invaded russia in june of 41, but they lost at kursk,,,,, its nice to think that they won some sort of lesser victory, but its only wishfull thinking,, Its easy to want to give them something,,, A sexy german tavern wench brings you 8 tankards of beer and you realy want to give them credit for something,, but its aint kursk, You can drink that german beer,, and stare into that german cleavage ,, but it wont change a thing,,, germany lost at kursk,, prokhorovka is part of kursk,,,, germany lost at kursk.,,,
  6. Its an ISU all right,,, the bottom one is not an ISU looks like a SUV,
  7. OK i stand corrected,,, Brent and Wicky,,, my appologies,, thankyou
  8. Wicky. its an assumption i made based on common sense,, i could be wrong ,,, but i've noticed that after a few hits,, penetrations get easyer,, and yes,, in real life,, metal does get brittle when pounded repeatedly,, but no its not in the book
  9. a qb using preexisting map with troops imported??? variable reinforcements,,, ie; XX% chance to arrive on said turn????????? a fluke???
  10. while i did once take out a kv on the first shot with a 37mm armed pz38t, at about 600 or so meters,, it was a fluke shot, the kind of shot you tell your kids and grandkids about,, when i tried it a second time, i fired 11 times before a perfecly calm kv turned and blasted my tin can into a flaming mass of dead tank because the kv in this mission is alone,, it needs to be protected, dont assume that thick armor is absolute,, the game calculates stress caused by multiple hits .. and the resulting weakening of armour,,, stressed armour can shatter like glass, there was never a variant of kv that was totaly invulnerable, and 10 pzIIIs with the 50mm L 60,,,, can kill any kv,, with luck and skill and organization ,,,,,,,,, they might loose half or more,, but its 10 to 1,, the numbers will tell,,,, keep your kv safe,,
  11. the soviet AT rifle is next to useless against the mark 3s and 4s. but good for making them button up,, sounds like you are having fun,,,
  12. ok so you are playing the citadel schwerpunkt mission???, as allied or axis??? i loved that one,
  13. by all means,, get the full game,, play a lot,, you will like it,,,
  14. "So iritating when the tank decides to move when it is fighting" get used to it, your tank is a crew of 2 or more men,,,,(or women if soviet), the driver will always turn the tank so the thickest armor is facing the enemy,,,,ie the front plate,,, also if the driver feels exposed,, he/she will throw into reverse and back away to a safer position,, Also in the real game is it possible to tell your troops what kind of ammo you want them to use that turn? the commander of the tank will decide based on knowlege and experience,,, he/she will also activly select targets,,, trust him/her
  15. Hey, most games are like you say,, troops stay in place and die, tanks dont take initiative,, very dead and game-like,, cm uses fuzzy logic to make units behave like real troops in real situations,,,, they get scared,, confused,, etc etc,, they make decisions,,,,in cm,,, as in real combat,,,, units are motivated by survival,,, you can order a cm squad to stay hidden, but if the enemy gets too close,, that squad may probably ignore orders and try to stop the enemy from getting any closer,,,, ,, its not like cossacks or command and conquer, where units are single minded and robotic,, in cm units think,,, and act,,,
  16. Sergei, I cant mod,,,,,,, I'm not able to figure it out at all,, I could blame CM, or the technology,,, but i'd be lying,,, I AM COMPUTER ILLITERATE!!!! WHHHAAAAAA!!!!!!,, it took me 2 years to figure out how to save a screen shot, and post a pic ,, but if i could do mods,,, i would do long quilted overcoats and fur hats for my russians, and fixed bayonettes,, i can kill cyber pixel armys,,, but i cant make them pretty ,,,,
  17. again unrelated,, but at least now i know how to save and post screen shots ,,,,, took me long enough
  18. Could be snipers,, could very well be,,,,, but both LMGs???? ,, anything is possible
  19. John... those suicide charges were rare as hell,, and mostly took place in the early months of the war, they usualy involved penal battalions,, and units recruited directly from civilian prisons, desperation,, fear,, alcohol, and religion, were all used to motivate the troops, the maxim guns at the rear were more for forcing the enemy to duck,, although they could prod a timid squad forward,,, I loved the movie,, but "Enemy at the gates" is still hollywood, and still more propaganda than documentary,,,,,,,,
  20. i set a AT gun in ambush position behind a low rise,, in a foxhole for added protection,, supported by 2 LMGs set 50 meters to either side,,, also in foxholes,, and behind the same rise,,,, its a 350 meter shot to the gap in the trees that any enemy tanks MUST pass through, I also have a com HQ unit to command the position,,, I'm oblique to the enemys line of advance,, ALL forces are dug in,, 20 seconds into turn 1,,, BOTH LMGs get up without orders, and move to the AT gun, both enter the AT guns foxhole, turn ends,,, I give both LMGs orders to return to their own respective foxholes,, they show command delays of 97 seconds,, and 128 seconds respectivley, both are in comand, both are ok,, both are reg,,,,, com HQ is reg,, gun is reg,,, There is still no contact with enemy,,, 5 seconds into turn 2,, BOTH LMGs suddenly go from ok,, to panic,, broken,,, routed,, and begin sneaking in foxhole,, both LMGs are now writhing in the gun's position,, and at 10 seconds into the turn,, the gun starts moving out of the hole,, and forward to the top of the rise,,, turn ends,,, AT gun is now on top of rise,, still has some distance left in its move comand,, I cancel the order,, both LMGs are still routed and sneaking and tired,, I order AT gun back into its foxhole,, comand delay is 14 seconds,,, setup time is 2 minutes ,,, 14 seconds into turn 3, gun begins to move back to foxhole,,,, gun enters foxhole and turn ends,,, gun has extra move order back out to top of rise,,, ,, cancel the order,,, gun has 2 minutes setup time,,, both LMGs are still sneaking/writhing in foxhole,, still routed,,, now exhausted, 25 seconds into turn 4,, AT gun begins moving forwards leaves foxhole, turn ends,, gun has more move line to go,, all the way to the gap,, i cancel and give order for gun to go back to open ground behind rise,, right beside the foxhole,,, 14 second comand delay,, 2 minute setup time,,, 14 seconds into turn 5, gun starts moving in WRONG direction,,, turn ends,, i have sound contact,, no time to move AT gun,, MUST DEPLOY,,, set covered arc and pray,,, turn 6,, enemy tanks pass through gap,, turn 7,, AT gun destroyed, turn 8, LMGs sudenly and inexplicably return to ok/exhausted, and move to proper foxholes,, and are slaughtered by enemy ,, **************************************** so did the LMGs muscle the AT gun out of the foxhole?? did they force my most valuable asset to abandon cover ????
  21. Air support does that, A lot,,,, A single bombing run can destroy your whole force,, and when its your own planes doing it,, it just feels worse,,
  22. 800 pt QB, on medium size map, i set the parameters at unrestricted .. and the map was random,,, december 41 south,, and i gave the axis a 50% bonus,, then i picked my forces 1x co partisans 1x co cavalry B A mess of AT rifles and lmgs,, 2 maxims, and one bt5,, i hit continue,,, and it was allied attack, large hills,,, or rather 1 large hill, with my setup zone at the bottom,,, and no cover till the top ,,,,,, turn 1,,, my tank gets hit by facisti AT turns into blazing tomb,, my forces are hiding or taking cover ,, turn 2 ,, sneak a few squads of partisans forward,,, take heavy casualties before discovering a small hollow in the hillside,,, turn 3 ,, get as many squads to the hollow as i can,,, hold back my cavalry turn 4,, enemy starts pounding me with 81mm mortars ,, etc etc etc turn 12,, still trying,, must defend holy mother russia, have pushed as far as 150 meters at some points,,, partisans are down to 2 platoons,, both mauled,,, and a squad from no#2 platoon,,, cavalry is in the hollow,, mostly pinned,, but nobody has paniced, turn 13,, just 27 meters to the rocky ground,, cover,, push,, NOW YOU B*st*rDS!! "oohrahhhhh!!" turn 14, partisans in human wave, reach rocks ,,, no# 3 platoon, at 3 squads,, co hq ,, plus 2 lost squads from platoons 1 and 2,, turn 20,, partisans still holding rocky ground,, facisti are ?? counter attacking?? turn 30,,, last partisan squad is holding captured foxhole, cavalry is moving to relieve, and its game over, but i wanna keep going,,,, WHAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! and that was my game yesterday,,, damm i love this game
  23. I would suppose that its because those are the calibres that were made,,,,
  24. A very long map, AI forces start at the middle,,, or closer to the attacker, all victory flags are at the rear edge of the map it looks like this Attacker, (short space) retreater,(long space) or P> 100m }AI> 4000m FLAG P being the player AI being the AI, and FLAG being the victory hex,,,,, with distances in meters, i tryed to make an AI retreat map, i had 10 large flags on the far eastern end of the map, a water obstacle with 3 bridges blocking the retreat,, so the AI had to choose a bridge , and cross to reach the flags, the AI setup zone was 3000 meters infront of the western most bridgehead,, it flopped,, the AI just rushed to the rear any old way,,,,,it was less a fighting withdrawl than a general slaughter of fleeing russians,, maybe correct though for summer 1941
