  1. When you guys do an air assault component of the game I am sure it will be 1st rate. Hell... An A-10 flying over in CMSF would be really cool. We have had plenty of military air assets over New Orleans in the last few months. If an A-10 flying over don't send the bad guys back to their spider holes ... well you gotta wonder bout their tactical decision making. Dawg ... wrapping Holiday Bonz
  2. Thanks sgtgoody (esq) The TV show was a little off on that then as it was indicating the Mk19 is a 40-mm was indirect fire. I am almost certain they spoke of dropping 40-mm rounds behind a building. Seems like the Mk19 would still be a nasty suppressive weapon with 430 rounds for the Mk19. I wonder if CMSF will have all the toys in the box? ( The snow on the BFC logo is a nice touch ) The Infantry Carrier Vehicle will have a number of different configurations. They include: Troop Carrier Mortar Carrier Anti Tank Guided Missile (TOW) Vehicle Reconnaissance Vehicle Fire Support Vehicle Engineer Support Vehicle Command Vehicle Medical Evacuation Vehicle NBC Vehicle Dawg... Hoping Santa brings a tire inflation / deflation and a self-recovery winch for Christmas ... for the vehicle not me.
  3. "the Army calling the Mk19 an indirect fire weapon" Interesting. I remember from the show watching them spray an area and I think they said they would use the Mk 19 for folks behind stuff... to flush them out and then nail them. Is that right? Since I know squat about the Mk19.. how much of a blast area does it have? Thanks, Dawg ... warming in the glow of the Winter Solstice .. and some mighty fine wine.
  4. Good deal. SOS is fine. You will enjoy it. I plan to watch again / record it. Those ATGM Firing units look like more fun than any afternoon of plinking I ever done. Dawg.. Getting taught what not to do in Jason's Russian Training "401"
  5. But I ain't neva seen no Dodge trow dez kinda Dartz! Even da guys I know in da PD ain't got no anti tank tools in their bag! http://members.cox.net/dawgbonz3/CMSF/stryker-ATGMFiring.jpg Dawg ... hope the jpg shows up? Tings electrical ain't what dey waz BK. We should get land line service in February.. maybe?
  6. From military.discovery.com Anatomy of a Stryker The Stryker is a 19-ton, eight-wheeled, infantry carrier filled with state-of-the-art combat systems. In this program, we reveal the impressive technology and revolutionary capabilities of this vehicle, as well as the elite soldiers who operate them. Next show broadcast DEC 26 2005 @ 01:00 PM Eastern Steve, Hope you got the tape? If you want me to put it on VHS for you let me know. We still don't have US Postal service here but I could send it from the next parish over, Jefferson. I thought I knew what a Stryker was and did but I was wrong. The Military Channel show focused on the Yakima training grounds training and real world use in Iraq. The soldiers all had praise for the speed and advanced technology packed into the machine. They demonstrated how quickly parts could be changed out. They discussed what a full Styrker unit had ... the variety of types of Strykers. Impressive arsenal. Should make CMSF a great game with plenty vehicle options. The ultimate weapon is the fire team inside but they work hand in glove with the Strykers. Cool. The run flat tires are awesome! With all the tires flat the Stryker can still hit 50 mph to escape the bad guys! Peace, Dawg... dinner out in da Quarter was a nice change but the drive back in the dark through the uninhabited flood zone is still spooky.
  7. Saw "Anatomy of a Stryker" on the Military Channel last night. It should replay 12/26/05. The show was very helpful to my understanding of how a modern Stryker force works. RE: CMSF. Plenty of game play potential within a Styker unit with so many different variations of the vehicle and armament as well. Looking forward with more anticipation to the new game. Dawg ... Some run flat tires under our New Orleans sleigh would be great for getting through da hood.
  8. Thanks Jason. Good job. Looking forward to your CMSF tutorials. Dawg... w/o da shock choker installed
  9. Thanks Dillweed. Had not seen the thread. Cool. Communications is mission critical on both a tactical and strategic level. The morale hit on blind units can be factored in the with the skill level. Saw this in recent tempest. Where can I get a “Commander's Digital Assistant” or a “Pocket Sized Forward Entry Device”? Are they available in anything other than green? Dawg … sniffing da NOT Cat. 3 levees
  10. Thanks Moon. Good enough for me and I am sure it will be a great product like all your CMx1 products. Any new screenshots? Thanks for the CMSF update. Looking forward to CMx2 as CMSF whenever you guys are ready. Dawg … NOT a FEMA friendly Fido!
  11. CMSF target date? Is there a target date for the CMSF release? Looking back through my records (for KATRINA insurance) I noted I had the CMBO/CMBB bundle arrive today 2002. CMAK arrived 12/13/03. I still enjoy the CMx1 game engine entertainment as time allows. I am intrigued with the description of the new CMx2 as CMSF. Happy Holidays, Dawg doin da post KATRINA sheet-rock ROCK!
  12. Juan, I played Across Moltke Bridge in ROW V, Group 7 to a Draw. Allied 53 - Axis 47. My Russian results were my worst in my tournament but I did learn plenty and enjoy the scenario and tournament. I made many of the mistakes Jason identified (rush.. smoked too soon… overcrowded the bridge horribly… etc) so I was gratified to pull a rabbit out of my donkey. My advice would be to reread Jason’s notes. I had never played this type of scenario before so I made all these classic mistakes. I have part of an AAR written on all the scenarios but have not completed them. I do plan to complete and submit these AARs as Post Katrina time allows. We are @ 60,000 population now of a Pre Katrina population of 462,000 so things are still a bit active. Peace, Dawg off for Dinner
  13. Just got internet back on here in PK/ NOLA. Checking in to see how ROW V turned out. Kinda surprised that the tournament finals that started back in June (I think, things are a bit blurry over the last few months) are yet to be finished mid November! Looking forward to the results and the finals scenarios release. Best of luck. Enjoy the game and have fun. Off for more house gutting ... 'stress relief'... never knew sledgehammers and chain-saws could be so therapeutic. Dawg in da Respirator
  14. Congratulations to the entire ROW V finalist list. Thanks to all who sent email inquiries and best wishes. Otto did not make it but did not suffer. We are in a busted but livable house and working to make our home … our home again. We are fortunate that our house survived. St. Nazaire Tiger Valley Loaded for Bear Hope the ROW V final games are available for sampling soon. Just got Internet access after hurricane Katrina / Rita.Look forward to catching up on CMx2 things after some very intense weeks here in New Orleans. Peace & Health, Dawg… Paddling in da Pond dat was / is New Orleans
  15. “…. A display of psychedelic colours in my head…” Andreas, There is medication for that you know? That elucidates some of your more creative CM scenarios. Thanks for the ATI & CPU info Sir S. BTW: German-English translations for "schrullenhaft": crotchety, cranky? I got a D in French you know… I think you are spot on with the lack of OS 9.x. - 3D RAVE support for the Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition … no drivers/extensions. I played a Battlefield 1942 Demo and was impressed with the visuals even with the slow 733MHz CPU. I do have 1.25GB SDRAM in my QS 733MHz. Since I have the old ATI Radeon 32MB PCI card that works fine with all 3 CM games, I just need to spring for a decent LCD that can display 1280x1024 thousands (my preferred screen size for CM with the 32MB video card) and I will avoid the pain in the butt cable switch to play with the CM map editor. As for G4 Accelerator/CPU Replacement cards… “The L2 cache is significantly faster thanL3.” Your explanation is most helpful Sir. S. The recent posts in LONG LIVE G4 QS SP1.8Ghz! are most encouraging….. “The Giga Designs 1.8Ghz G4 upgrade card works for me with no problems at all with the following. Beyond Overlord, Barbarossa to Berlin, Afrika Korps…. Måkjager.” Wonder if the 2.0GHz Giga Designs G4 upgrade card works as well with CM? My better ¾ just got her G5, a 20”, iMac 2.0GHz! Darn nice machine in OS 10.4.1 and with 128MB video card inside, fast and smooth. It is a little tough to explain to her why I need to use her work computer to play … “Space Lobsters of DOOM!” and such. Not to beat a dead stallion but… CMx1 … on this iMac… would produce a fine display of psychedelic colours in my head. I am in the same vessel Måkjager and all … a temporarily unable to be found, complex of human attributes that manifests as consciousness, thought, feeling, and will, regarded as distinct from the physical body … in the nether world of change… looking for the Apple / Intel Mutant emergence to arrive on the pastime diversion scene (sounds of lighting and thunder inserted here) in all its 4.0+ GHz blazing glory… in about 3 or 4+ years. So an upgrade card makes perfect sense for a lost soul in association with a little French red alcoholic drink made by fermenting the juice of grapes … Cheers, Dawg off to be a chow hound… BTW: We have plenty of Americans over in the Alps today sampling grapes and producing psychedelic colors while watching the Discovery Team “Lift Off” in La Grand Boucle.
  16. Hi Andreas, Thanks for all your fine CM scenarios and information. Quick note off then to eat dinner & ‘Dawg-Walk’. Just last week I got a ‘surprise gift’ = ATI - Radeon 9800 PRO MAC EDITION 128MB - 4X AGP! Another surprise is I can’t get CM – BO – BB – AK to play on this 128MB card booted in OS 9.2.2? The problem is I keep getting the warning “Max resolution required is 800 x 600 ...” and then CM quits. I also have an old ATI - Radeon MAC EDITION 32MB - PCI card. If I connect my monitor to this card, CM – BO – BB – AK to play great on this card booted in the separate OS 9.2.2 volume. Solution: When I have time ... I switch cables and play CM on the old Radeon 32MB - PCI card. Smoke and all looks fine. The more modern game titles look great on my 2001 G4 QS, 733MHz with the ATI - Radeon 9800 PRO MAC EDITION 128MB - 4X AGP. I am hopeful that this card will be enough for CMX2? I suspect I will need an aftermarket upgrade accelerator. I am a computer novice but from what I read, think the 2MB - L3 cache cards are more critical for game play than maximum MHz cards? I am positive Sir Schrullenhaft knows the answer. Off to eat and a then warm ‘cup of tea’.... Tea solves everything! Hope this helps. Dawg Bonz
  17. Happy 4th of July! Gentlemen you created some fine looking and interesting scenarios for the tournament participants. Thank you to the scenario designers of ROW V. Reviewed some of the AARs you posted and realized I am obliged to hire an editor. I think I got side tracked with the 500,000 words minimum notice…. Kinda like the ‘don’t blow up the bridge’ notice in that Evil Bridge scenario. Hmm. Richie… Nice touch with the PENG trailer park down by the river Spree! Don’t tell me you forgot? Ironic that I accomplished my best scores in St. Ends, nighttime ECT in your French medical facility and my worst score in EVIL … while pulling a rabbit out of my neophyte donkey. These are both your scenarios Richie…. “The Scenario Designer grivets and take-it-h away”… or sumpin. Nidan1’s 'Highlanders in Hell' was a very pleasurable armored Axis adventure (BIG GUNS ARE FUN) against the elements and ‘beau-cops blockage’… Got a “D” in French you know. Kingfish, I would agree WN that 'Push to Maleme' my best honors pick for 1st round ROW V. I know it doesn’t have all the bang and boom glitz of some other fine scenarios but the game looked and felt right for realism. Is that subjective enough for you? I have never parachuted but I did read up on and ‘researched’ the ‘parachute packets’ the axis used. Good stuff! Franko’s 'Wet Triangle' was my least favored game. Nice looking map but too ‘what if’ for me… wait for the roll of the dice & watch the hordes of tractors zip across the line for VPs, IOW a bit unrealistic. Don’t get me wrong, Wet is a fine playing and looking scenario but a subjective call is that … and that is what happens when your scenarios are stacked up in ROW competition. I would still play it again as Allied to see how fast (shortest number of turns) I could get across the line for VP. I will complete my real AARs as time allows and send them to you. I am sure the fellows in the ROW V finals experience are in high spirits with your ultimate offerings. Thanks again, Dawg off… and off to nap… hoping the phone doesn’t ring any more as there is a new job on offer in DC.
  18. Just got an email that made me re-read the ROW notes. I failed to mention my sincere apologies to Sivodsi as well earlier today. I have only respect for you my friend. As noted in my email to you, my misunderstanding of the NABLA fairness issues expressed made me question what was being said. I am not too adept at computer discussion mechanics “typical grog critical analysis of the methodology” and certainly not math. I now understand how computer folks don’t perceive intellectual scoring discussions in the same manner that we do in physical sports. You have nothing to feel guilty about Svidosi. You played very well in that Wet metal bar used as a percussion instrument a/k/a a Triangle and throughout your 1st tournament. Congratulations. I failed to see your post when I came back with our oldest dog this morning because I was a sadly shaken seeing our 15-year-old presenting additional signs of strain on his limited organ reserve. I know to well what is coming. Knowing our oldest dog’s demise may occur during the ROW V finals, it would be unfair to all finalists for me to even start. When he passes I won't be able to finish any computer game. Thanks to all of you who posted and emailed your encouragement to remain in the finals. JonS: A fine sportsman and talented tactician. Sivodsi: 12th in top scores overall as a rookie tournament player! No greenhorn by your name. Kingfish: I don’t envy your workload but I admire your patience and what you accomplish. Ace: Thanks for you guidance and I will get all AARs to you over time. WineCape: Thanks Charl, Your generosity supports healthy challenge and growth. Malakovski: You forgot more maths than I ever knew. Melnibone: You did see Vombatus ursinus Lasiorhinus latifrons in Evil too didn’t you? Dieseltaylor: You know more maths than I can forget. Stikkypixie: Wine? What makes you think I drink? GreenAsJade: the maths and rationales involved are complicated especially for a Dawg. Kanonier Reichmann: A nutter? I think there is medication for that? Nidan1: Good eye as the JOY and excitement was and is genuine. (FGM) Panzertwat: Sorry I missed you score of 1.86 in G10. Congratulations and good luck. Jbertles: your posts torment the English language… I got a D in French you know. BigMik1: We will need to discuss this wine thing over seafood and drinks. I am sure I missed others but your collective comments and actions are uplifting and very much appreciated especially after this morning. The scoring misunderstanding has been cleared up. The issue for me now is with my dog’s remaining time. We want to enjoy these days, offer what we can for his happiness and keep him pain free. You guys get in there a have fun. I hope to check in as I can to read what kind of mischief Kingfish has in store for you. I will listen for those screams a/k/a FOW game banter. Enjoy the ROW V Finals. Dawg … to Sleep…
  19. JonS, “My apologies to Dawg for the misunderstanding, and to the rest of ROW V for the fallout from it” Apologies accepted Jon. I sent you a separate email detailing the issues that concerned me. You answered more clearly what it was you were trying to say. Thank you. I have only respect for you and all members of Group 7. Thanks for the fun PBEM games. Thanks to all the others posting to clarify the NABLA fairness discussion. I do not disregard your NABLA scoring concerns as unimportant. I don’t know enough about the mechanics to even question the scoring. I am sure any scoring system can be refined but the timing of that fairness inquiry would be healthier, in my opinion, after the ROW V tournament is concluded. Regardless of disclaimers, questioning the fairness of how a sporting event was conducted immediately after the event resembles a protest of the scoring. This may be only my misunderstanding of the mechanics of CM forum discussion. Sorry. In cycle racing, fifteen minutes after the event with no written protest, results stand. At this point it is end of discussion and move to the next event. It is considered unsporting to review fairness issues around the next event start line. Sorry. Synchronicity. The timing of the post game scoring comments and our oldest dog’s symptoms progression may have colored and amplified my misunderstanding of the fairness discussion. I apologize. Despite our thoughtfulness and meticulous medical management our fifteen-year-old dog is getting closer to his end of life. Our Veterinarian agrees with me that his end of life may be as much as a few months away but my sense is it will occur sooner. I will not meet the deadlines on the AAR so King please judge this as my official default. CM is a leisure activity for me. Our 1st dog is family. It would be wise for me to enjoy his unique personality while I can. If he were to die in the ROW finals I would be incapable of pressing the ‘GO’ button. Group 7 has very proficient CM players. It would be best for one of them to move ahead into the finals. Have fun in the fights and enjoy every challenge, every day. Sincerely, Dawg
  20. Entering the ROW V tournament was an interesting and hefty challenge for me. I own all three of the BFC, CM games. I have entertained myself fighting the AI. I amused myself with the map editor more than toy soldiers in battle. Dawgs are pretty easy to amuse. At the start of ROW V the ROW V tournament I had only played five PBEM games … ever! Playing in this event doubled my PBEM tally. You can see just how productive an adventure it was for my novice PBEM background. I did have an excellent professor. Thanks Sir. I thought I played adeptly getting two total victories, two major victories and pulling a draw from a major malfunction defeat. My overall NABLA ranking was 6th out of 72 players! I thought that was a very respectable score. I thought I ‘won’ Group 7 fairly with a NABLA score of 3.51 but now that doesn’t appear to be the case? Mentioning annoyance, irritation, displeasure over anything is never a big deal as long as the exchange is honest and respectful. The NABLA ‘hysteria’ / discussion has been interesting but my math skills are that of a Dawg. Certain email makes it clear to me that some feel the NABLA scoring system is unfairly flawed. I was informed that our Group 7 NABLA score really means "…our group was about average for the 'closeness of the fighting', if that is a measure.." I was also informed that another member of Group 7 "… should' have been in the finals because of his overall score, but of course it doesn't work that way…" Skill is skill. Comprehensive preparedness and competence, with luck factored in, is what leads to victory in most sports. I really did enjoy expressing my novice skills in the ROW games but the appropriate action now is bow out. I don’t want anyone to feel they were cheated out of a win by some mathematical mess up in a computer game. I have never and will never cheat anyone in a contest of skill, even if it is a math formula malfunction. I really don’t understand all the newly discovered faults of the NABLA scoring system but it was fairly clearly indicated that some feel my advancing to the finals is a faulty aberration of NABLA. I am withdrawing from the ROW V finals. I am sure Kingfish can figure out who really should advance to the finals for Group 7. Thanks to all the ROW V contributors. I really can imagine the amount of time and hard work involved. Thank you. You guys did a great job. Best of luck with the rest of the tournament. Best of luck to whomever advances from Group 7 and the rest of the ROW finalist. Have fun in the games. Sincerely, Dawg
  21. Originally posted by Kingfish: BTW, does anyone want to guess as to who the designers are for the first 5 scenarios? Melnibone guess - Satan, Lucifer, Mephistopheles and Beelzebub? You mean the enemies of Nature, the lords of evil, and the tempters of human beings, the leaders of the fallen angels? Yeah, saw them all living in a trailer down by the river and fishing for BIG FAT catfish. Based on the Boots & Tracks ROW V Mission Statement This team is dedicated to the creation of the highest quality virtual brawls designed to bring grown men to their knees in tears. Our goal is that these specially designed flagellation machines will provide you hours of ‘enjoyment’, a constellation of new symptoms to report and therefore, a good reason for the MD to increase your medication dosage! Based on the above, my guesses as to who the designers are for the first 5 scenarios include but are not limited to: Kingfish Tim 'Rune' Orosz Jeff "Jwxspoon" Weatherspoon Walpurgisnacht; based on his Nabla score! * Historical research assistance provided by: Satan, Lucifer, Mephistopheles, Beelzebub and genetically altered, evil minions of Vombatus ursinus Lasiorhinus latifrons. These will all be given their due credit in the AARs. If I read the NABLA scores correctly this is how the groups faired before AARs. G4 Walpurgis Nacht = 9.34 G12 Londoner = 7.11 G5 Jon L = 4.56 G11 Platehead = 3.86 G7 Dawg Bonz = 3.51 G9 SteveS = 3.46 G3 Flenser = 3.25 G8 Malakovski = 3.21 G6 StoneAge = 2.41 G1 JPS = 2.36 G2 GreenHornet = 2.23 G10 CombinedArms =1.32 Being a ‘Dawg’ I am not capable of wearing a NABLA decoder ring. It would be interesting to see a list of all the players, sorted by raw scores per game/side. The tournament group elimination feature while required for advancement has got to be frustrating to guys with great scores like dangerousdave 3.59, 2nd place in group G11. To just miss the cut in a tough group, Ouch. Likewise, some solid novice combatants like Sivodsi 2.38, 2nd place in group G7, must wish they had drawn a different group#. This is my 1st Tournament so all this is new to me as well. I had a very limited PBEM boot camp but an excellent CM professor. Much gratitude goes to you Sir for providing the Dawg reliable PBEM training. Looks like I made it into the BOS ring! Woof! Our G7 was a enjoyable collection of players. Thanks to them all for first-class combat and fun. Speaking of medication… Oh… we weren’t? I think we should. Kingfish Member Member # 1723 posted April 18, 2005 08:00 PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------ What I can tell you is... 3 scenarios. One set in Tunisia, the second in Poland and the third in France. They are all bigger than the regular tourney, both in number of turns and number of units. Map is size is also bigger. I know that is going against the established standards of what a ROW scenario should be, but then again, this is the last hurrah. I want the old CM engine to go out with a bang, and what better way than to have a map full of things that go bang. “…a map full of things that go bang.” The Pleasure / Pain begins BTW: Thanks ‘Wicky’. Good candid shot. I didn’t know you had your camera with you Ciao, Dawg … off to the MD’s office to get stocked up for Round #2. Mais docteur, j'ai besoin de plus de médicament pour de plus grands conflits.
  22. ROW V Rumors The entirety of Group 7 "Virtual Cavaliers" have advanced to the next round of RUMBLE! Anonymous sources include but are not limited to, "Deep Throat", CNN and Martha Stewart’s "It’s A Good Thing!" blog. BTW: Reservation packages for the ROW V Dinner Dance Soiree are still available. Act now and get the 75% discount and a $10,000.00 salt water fishing junket! Dawg rumbling round hound
  23. Sanitorium eviction is concluded. This should complete Group 7. Thank you and grateful appreciation to you gentleman for the skillful battle and game banter. Dawg Tired
  24. Sanitorium Eviction Notice is Administered. Sent 35/35 final move! This should complete Group 7. Now Teufel Hunden can write not fight at night. Ciao, Dawg Bed
  25. Kingfish Update as of 05/13/05 OK, we have 25 days left to finish 49 games. At this late stage we all should be very close to the end of our games, as in the last 10 turns. If this is not the case, then please let me know now, before it gets past the point where even getting a replacement player won't do any good. "I'm waiting for last-minute panic to set in..." GreenAsJade "There is a medication for that." Some Dude I tink der is panic inside da Sanitorium? Definitely heard sounds of lamentation and gnashing of teeth in only scenario left for Dawg. 24/35 = File 071 = 69% "Every move of the Universe begins with your actions…."
