  1. Congratulations JonS. I got to move sumpin on my 1st AAR. Maybe up to move sumpin x2 this afternoon? One Sanitorium left to burn to the ground. Dawg… Off to walk the freshly laundered dawgs, and ride the immaculately maintained bicycle.
  2. Thanks for the advice Jeff. Now that I have had the LCD monitor I am actually considering going all LCD now when money allows. They really do generate less heat and I have more space for ‘stuff’ on my desk. Redwolf, I have read other similar comments on the Dell 20" and 24" widescreen displays. Do not have the cash for a new monitor yet but will check out the Dells. Any resolution by hand & widescreen displays… would be a sweet treat. Thanks, Dawg
  3. Schrullenhaft, Thanks. Your advice is exactly what 2 other local computer wizards hinted at. IOW: fixable but $150.00 down the road and 60 days latter… repeat failure = not worth it. I may just wait and save the $ for the 128MB video card (like a Radeon 9800 Pro for the Mac G4) and ‘struggle’ in a single monitor universe till CMx2 arrives. Dawg… looking boldly into the Mac OSX – CMx2 Universe and beyond.
  4. As always, thank you Schrullenhaft. I suspected CMx1 was a non-starter with the Apple 23" Cinema Display. CMx1 max for my system on the NEC FP912SB (CRT) was 1600 x 1200. My Apple 17" Studio Display (ADC) works fine at 1280x1024 with the 32MB GeForce2MX card. The recent price drops in Apple Cinema Displays, along with the NEC’s terminal signals, are making me covet a single 23" LCD display. It would be nice to play the trusty CMx1 with a 23" LCD display if possible but… OSX-CMx2.. Q6-2005… release announcements in Jamaica… or so the rumor bones predict. Dawg… wondering what the CMx2 at 1920 x 1200 at 120 jezebels ‘experience’ would do to bow-wow? * Sadly the NEC (a fine looking display) has recently started with a ‘single white line of death’ display after a few minutes of on time. Tried several different machines / card combinations and same thing. Not sure why or what the symptom means other than… $100.00 to ‘diagnosis’ and then labor and parts to repair with a 30-day warranty. I don’t require dual display capability but have gotten accustomed to it.
  5. Mac OSX questions. I realize no CMx2 system requirement figures are out but I would assume the Apple 23" and 30" displays will be supported in CMx2? If I put a 128MB video card (like a Radeon 9800 Pro) in my current 2001 QS - 700MHz (1.25GB ram) could that combination drive CMBO-BB-AK on a 23" Apple display? Dawg… dreams of a BIG screen, cinematic CMX experience.
  6. YD, Good distinction re: "LOS" - Line of Sight, and LOF - Line of Fire. I have recurrently desired a CM hot key that would project a colored area of LOS & LOF around the unit in question. This craving springs from not wanting to spend inordinate time plotting with the current LOS tool. One single line imparts very limited information. If a covered arc like option would project a colored area of LOS & a different colored area of LOF, 180 degrees from the unit in question, the game plotting would be quicker, IMO. "Grasshopper, Be like a 1000 wheat stalks, at ground level and the 9mms will gently whistle warnings but not upset balance." Dawg… woofing for a Lazy LOS/LOF hotkey.
  7. I'm waiting for last-minute panic to set in... There is a medication for that. That is what they told me in the Sanitorium. Makes you write faster too! Dawg… off walk da Dawgs
  8. Thanks Redwolf. I may just need to bump my video card (32MB now) and increase my CPU (single 700MHz now) speed? That would be fine. The old QS 2001 works fine with what I do now. That would give the little old lady more time to get tired of her G5 Dawg
  9. Bone Summary (provided for quick peek at possible CMx2 features): CMX2 is as hard as ivory with a rumored release Q6 2008. Or A vaporware tale, myth, a fragment of a dream. Or An enigma wrapped in a puzzle shrouded in a mystery that never happened when you weren't here. Or A collective hysterical hallucination by the forum members. Or A song? "When bones get in your eyes". Or An Animal House spin off… dawgs. (Dogs vs. Cats) Or A game about Space Crustaceans. Or An advanced Heimlich Maneuver substitute. Or A game that bestows funky godlike ability even when not in front of the computer. Or An investment tool for Charles and Steve, bumped from the development team, to pay for vacation in Jamaica. Or A new book about "Covert Diversion Syndicates" moved off shore to Jamaica. Or Seanachai’s out-of-wedlock son born 16th Dec – 2005. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thus we have Woe of Whalebonz 2 date and certain to be expanded upon. Dawg Bonz… Member of the "Bonz Benevolent Brotherhood" and grand possessor of the "Secret Paw Shake".
  10. Do hear the sound of AARs going to press or have the ROW combatants gone fishing? Dawg… sneaking round in the Sanitorium
  11. Schrullenhaft - However CMx2 is going to be a big improvement for BFC/BTS - and per Rune Beta testing Q4 2005. We are already in May 2005. The new and improved CMx2(s) for OSX will be with us soon. The CM1 trilogy is comfortable, fun. The games are easy to use diversions that have facilitated teaching me how to war game. It is easy to become affectionate with games like this but I expect CMx2 will enrich my war game experience even more. My Mac OS9 CM1 trilogy will fade into fond memories as I move on to newer games from BFC/BTS and a newer Mac than my ‘new’ Quicksilver single G4. If the reports of support for multiple-core processors in Tiger are true, I am more concerned with how soon the dual-core Power Macs will be ready and when I will have the money for a PowerPC 970MP running at speeds of 3GHz and the 23" display of course. Dawg… with a wealth of mileage to go in CM1 fun on an ‘old’ Mac.
  12. Jason, RE: kursk8amsituation4or.jpg Probably a dumb question but what do the rectangles with x and ovals represent? Thanks for the update. Dawg
  13. You fellows aren’t blowing smoke up the CPU are you? Never thought about smoke like this before. Junk2drive, Advice noted and added to my CM, ‘Smokem if She’s got you’ ready kit. YankeeDog, Are you a long lost Northern cousin of a Southern Dawg who can’t see the forest for the trees? Never thought of factoring these forest / wind parameters. Thanks. Dawg… pulling stumps out of St. Edouards or I may just ignite the night and beez done with it.
  14. "…. an 80 turn 45,000 strength point night attack in a PBEM game. " That would drive me to smoke too. Colonel, The getting yelled at by my wife for "spending too much time on this dumb game" part might happen again in your nighttime naughtiness? Try using the patented Dumb Dawg Smoke Screen, "Honey, the CPU is acting strange again. I need an hour to reboot." Worked a few times for me. BTW: "…the faster units are moving the earlier they can be heard." Thanks. Did not know that. Dawg … never loaded 45,000 points in a CM engine and don’t think my CPU could…. Day or night.
  15. Dawg Bonz – Group 7 Push to Maleme – 100% Across Moltke Bridge – 100% Highlanders in Hell – 100% Wet Triangle – 100% St. Edwards Sanitorium – 51% The lovely St. Edouards pics, though very descriptive and appreciated, give me tics. Time for enhanced therapy? Dr. Can you double my dosages? I used up all the Maleme ‘paratroopers packets’ and now this last stump removal requires some effort. I could hire a contractor but they can’t fly at night. Looks like I will be digging a trench round the tree, severing small roots with a sharp spade and cutting larger ones with an axe & pruning saw. Loosen the stump by pulling the trunk backwards and forwards…. Or I could just use large incendiary devices. So what do you say Doc? Dawg… digging in da dirt.
  16. Dear Esquire Melnibone, Delighted with your AAR, cultural critique, enhancement counsel: "turn down the lights and pour myself a large one." Alternatives include but are not limited to… "Turn down the lights and fire up a hot one" if you live in Oregon or other progressive jurisdictions. My ROW V AARs renderings shall be innocuous in witness of history. Sadly, my typewriter was taken apart when I was bored. I was chronologically @ 3 years old and had loaned my Spielzeugsoldaten to my friends. Being a "Dawg" never got much beyond this maturing but enjoy the Hell out of Life now! For your AAR zest, may I also suggest exploring the subtle yet potent single malts with a splash of Jazz? For your AAR pleasures… http://www.pbs.org/jazz/ And for that WWII Jazz mood enhancer: http://www.pbs.org/jazz/time/time_wwii.htm "Jazz in Occupied Europe" Through World War II, jazz — the music that German propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels called "the art of the subhuman" — stayed stubbornly alive in Nazi-occupied Europe, a bright symbol of resistance. When the Germans barred even the use of the word "jazz," the Hot Jazz Club of Belgium renamed itself the Rhythmic Club and kept on swinging. And when the Germans banned the performance of all American music in Paris, local musicians simply changed the titles of the tunes they loved: In the Mood became Ambiance; Holy Smoke became Joyeuse fumee; and Count Basie's Jumpin' at the Woodside turned into Dansant dans la Clairiere. Swing was the "magic word" for "young people everywhere," the French jazz enthusiast Charles Delaunay recalled. "Swing was on everyone's lips, you swore by it. Everything that was at all original or redolent of American life was baptized 'swing.'" Sincerely, Dawg off to swing .. in multitudinous manners but now for chow and after meal … Bow Wow & Walk.
  17. Dawg Bonz – Group 7 Push to Maleme – 100% Across Moltke Bridge – 100% Highlanders in Hell – 96% Wet Triangle – 88% St. Edwards Sanitorium – 49% ---------------------------------------- Here I go, into the wild blue yonder, Flying High into the sky. Creatively writing my AARs While Flying High! "It was a dank and steamy plight da boys found themselves in at St Edouards. Their company names were painfully and hastily scrawled on the dungeon walls. These poor souls wanted some lasting testimony to the horrors about to be thrust upon them. As they feverishly attempted to bequeath some ‘makeshift memorial’ to their dilemma before death, the rumbling and explosions began. Panic quickly turned to rout. The dust and smoke was suffocating. The worst part was… 18 more moves! Yes.. they still had 18 more moves of St Edouards to survive. Was it possible? Could they find a way out?" ---------------------------------------- To be continued…. Dawg … of humor & humanities … and now work.
  18. Berlichtingen, I understand. Could not make that PC ‘advance.’ I kept getting the shakes thinking about it. Got a very sweet (inexpensive) deal on slightly used G4 Quick Silver 2001 with the 17" Apple LCD thrown in the deal. Ironically the system was literally from… "A little old lady who needed something faster for her email so she bought a G5!" CM-BO-BB-AK all work fine on the old OS 9.2.2 and I can run OS 10.3.8 w/o a hitch. Now a single processor 700 MHz machine is going to be on the slow side for CMx2 in Q19 of 2006 but… maybe that little old lady will need a faster email G6 by then? Dawg … still doing machinations after all these years.
  19. Jason, Thanks for the reply. AAR / scenario files availability subsequent to campaign I am sure will be interesting. Have fun in Kursk CMx10. Dawg
  20. Three bigger maps full of more things that go bang! For Tunisia do I need sun screen, shorts and sandals? For Poland why do I have that ominous "Son of Evil Bridge" only BIGGER impression? For France will I need a Metro pass? I agree with the Gentleman from Brocken. Nacht ist nicht gut. Thanks Kingfish. Dawg … Mais docteur, j'ai besoin de plus de médicament pour de plus grands conflits.
  21. Kinda quiet in ROWV Real Estate! Best estimates on what the ROW V finals will encompass? Animal (Afrika), Vegetable (Vineyards), Mineral (Autobahn)? Dawg … Prying into the ROW V finals – FOW (I promise I will not tell my Dawgs)
  22. Dook … Don't you just hate Mondays? Really kick arss Tuesdays are tough too…. But any day is fine … with enough remedy (sound of cork popping on another fine Wine Cape vintage). It is 5 PM somewhere? Moreover, my new St Edouards ROWV Scenario tattoo is intensely robust and smarts a bit. Graduated Magnum Cum Laudy - Laudy in Sommelier University you know. Dawg… yet hooked on the Mac mechanism. Expecting the Q9 –2006 , CMx2 – OSX version(s) to retain my resistance to the ‘dark side.’
  23. Rune … the official date is Q6 of 2005. Hmm? Had me a speck confused … easy to do on Monday. To clarify I did da google for Q6 of 2005. BILLS BY FILE CODE: Taxes - Recordation and Transfer (Q6) - 2005 ...Regular Session file code information... Taxes - Recordation and Transfer (Q6) Total Number of Bills: 7 ... So I think this is Rune ‘code talking’ for Q2 2006…. Q4 + Q2 = Q6? Still use a Mac to play CM. I got a D- in Math you know. Dawg … out to bicycle some air into my loitering computational potential
  24. Thanks Adam, I understand & respect the FOW issue for the Kursk CMx10 campaign. The campaign abstraction sounds interesting and educative. Your AARs would be appreciated. You fellows should have an bang-up exploit. Have fun. Dawg
