  3. i found a battle where the soft ground is placed at the bottom of a dry ravine as a tank barrier. doesnt look so good as a plowed field, lol. drunk farmer i suppose.
  4. i dl'd a couple more cmbo grass mods from cmhq. i ran some test with valley of trouble. most bo mods dont work well with ak because of the increased number of elevation changes in ak. gurra's normandy mod works the best for not changing drastically up the hillsides, and has the right look for nw europe summer. even fall winter are good. matches well with juju's and gurra's treebases and various trees. it includes both sets of bmp numbers. gunnergoz real grass has an dark maybe muddy look that works well in flatter terrain. wolf's grass at 1.4 mb has to be the easiest on older systems. got real funky at higher elevations. vossie's grass has received good reviews. i still like ed's the best for a dark textured look and sdog for muddy dead winter. (at cmhq, cmmos, cmbo, terrain) use mcmmm to redo the zips into excmmos. have a backup.

  6. which brings up the off topic, where do ricochets go? i have seen pics of troops beside and behind tanks. my troops sure hit the dirt if they are next to a tank that takes fire. does cm model pieces flying onto the troops? would the deflected bullets in sergei's post change the color of the tracer? do i need more coffee?
  7. i think poppy perceives vets rout and run the same as greens. does the tacai vary the panic broken routed routine dependant on the level of troops?
  8. yeppers, the dark mod looks good as soft ground. i made a map sept 44 with a mix of grain and soft ground. with your summer and fall renumbered to fall grain and soft ground it looks like the usa mid west after harvest (where i spent childhood). thanks for the mods
  9. could it be a crew member popping out of a hatch with a hand held mg? pics i've see of shermans iirc show a grease gun mg mounted on the bulkhead for defense.
  10. subject to change spring summer eto ed's cmbo 1550-1569 fall dd's cmbb grass and steppe mod winter wet muddy sdog cmbb renumbered 1570-1589 gurra's normandy grass is a good choice and probably closer to nw europe summer i dont play italy, but gurra's sdog redo is good. magua's normandy grass and subdued are other choices. i use the "valley of trouble" remake to see the most elevation changes in color. time of day, year, weather, seems to change the color of open ground. i might change mods because of that. i try to match my treebases and flora to the grass choice.
  11. i got the new zip. now i have too many good choices, lol. i may use the dark one for soft ground. (i never did figure out how those ground noodles depicted soft earth) thanks
  12. i revised the list of seasons and their visual changes in terrain. get it here at the proving grounds
  13. from my testing, "fall" fields is fall winter spring. fall winter no doodads, spring with doodads. summer is june - august with doodads ed kinney has made a bunch of field mods since cmbo. his last one was a fall field with darker doodads. from my memory: a green plowed field summer field with doodads fall field with doodads a subdued set maybe a low res set gurra made a nice plowed dirt numbered for fall. i have made pink bmps for the doodads so that they dont appear if you dont want them, but they still have the effects of the game engine for cover and concealment. you should collect all the field mods you can find from bo bb and ak, study them, try them, and then make your set. jmho. looking forward to your next mod
  14. i renumbered these for fall and zipped. they dont compress much. for hans' sb, englishmen at war, sept 1940, i used ed's cmbo grass and trees, tbm roads and your wheat (fall has no doodads). looks great! best that i can tell from the www, trees change color in late oct nov in southern england.
  15. it reminds me of after the harvest, with weeds sprouting. check out my design tips at the proving grounds, seasons and visuals. it will help you with what terrain items show up in what month, such as when does wheat have doodads.
  16. interesting. good first mod, i look forward to more. i suggest you use your name or something to differenciate between your mods and others. how bout wc_summer_grain or asrg second note, you have no compression on the jpgs, and very little on the bmps. 3.5mb is hard on dial up people. one jpg would be enough and get it down to 50-80kb. find a zip program that will compress it more. i think i might use this for spring or fall with no doodads. i like the green bits.

  18. in my bmp folder 9418 is andrews, nz 9420 bfc, poland my fix at your own risk, make a backup first, install andrew's cw_crew, make a copy of 9418, renumber 9420, copy over original 9420 however, andrew's mod is for mid and late war, 9418 is for ew. now you will need an arm for your early war crews to match their bfc uniforms.   21. i would gladly buy a separate add on to cmak for eto. it would keep cmak pure and satisfy the rest of us.

  24. it only applies when you are playing as axis. restart a battle and switch sides, see what happens. same with me and at guns. the enemy has one shot wonders. my guys are blind.
