  1. First of all if Dragonheart makes suggestions listen to him he is much better than I am. Dragonheart you know the difference between "Theorie und Praxis" ? When I play, even against humans I try to have fun and not play the perfect game... Leading to take unnecesary risks .... Trying something I know it is stupid... Sending expediton forces to their death..gambling to surprise my enemy.( You see I acting like all great generals behaved through history). Against other newbies it works and the game takes unexpected turns... Against a veteran player like yourself its deadly . Merciless you destroy these poor soldiers send to their death...

  3. Hello Hubert, Unfortunatly now the rockets are more or less out of the play... Airfleets are the way to go and Bombers and Rockets sit on the sideline of History... Any way to cut back the importance of Airfleets perhaps?
  4. Hi Cat, some comments from my side... 1. I think you run into time troubles because you don´t position troops at the rusian border 2 units in the to polish towns after defeat at poland, at least 4 at the tows after September 1940 max. 10 units near rusian border... Therefore the war readiness of the UDSSR increases to fast... See Terifs posts regarding this topics.. 2. IMHO for Norway... 2-3 Fighters in Denmark, 4 Units in Transports (including 1 or 2 armies) are enough to kick out Norway in 1 turn.. Move your Destroyers to Sweden afterwards and a HQ and the Fighters to Norway this is nearly enough to knock out Sweden (at least against the AI) 3. Move over HQ because without supply your units are helpless 4. You will need all your 3 Fighters a HQ 3 Ground units Army, Tank(or another Army) and Corps within striking distance. This means operate a HQ and the other Units to the LC border on turn one. 5. As Germany you start with Level 1 Rocket science... 2 Hexes firing range look at the map you will see a Hex left of Bruessels were you can position a rocket early on within range of the London port. 6. As German I like to put a research chit in Subs sometimes in Rocket ( if you get 2-3 surprise advances early on in these areas you can further invest and build a new strategy upon it. and I always invest in Prod. Tech... As Italien Gun laying, Anti Tank... (The gamble chits are not the most cost effective but can work as an surprise later on ... Level 3 Subs can take out a battleship on first attack...)

  6. Yeah you know these defeats are depressing though I would like to enforce my last rule suggestion....Veteran players should always loose. 1. Yes 2. No 3. No (Depends on the bid level) 4. No 5. No 6. No 7. No 99. a. Limit airfleests yes b. If 1,2,3 ,4 are forbidden than any DOW and seaborne invasion first turn should be forbidden.
  7. Regarding your historically point of view. I am from Germany and I can´t remember that Germany attacked Spain, Sweden Portugal..... Or that Italy ruled the med without opposition...Should it be forbidden? And regarding your argument that it will be always the "same" game. It is actually my feeling right now that is always the same game due to the "No Italian Gambit " rule... Axis conquers whole Europe and attacks Rusia... Britain and US have perhaps one real counterstrike possibilty and have to wait until Rusia joins the war to have any real possibilty to be active..(3 hours play of waiting and waiting oh I forgot this exciting waiting...) Early looses of the substantiel forces lead to "Sealion" and destruction of Britain. Read the advices from some veteran players regarding "Allied strategy" sit back and read a book... (I know that there are some very good players out there who are able to pull a rabbit out of there hats... taking Spain doing something unusal...) My point is as the rules stand right now a veteran player will always win against the allied player if you don´t give a 1:8 bit (300 level and above)
  8. Not a member of Z-League yet.... But "1" should be certainly forbidden and "3" perhaps... Other houserules suggestions if you want some: - No DOW and attacking the same turn. - No DOW and seabore invasions the same turn - Limit Airfleets a la "Limited game" - No embark, disembark attack... (Suez, Tangiers... - Veteran players should always loose their first game against beginners to not frighten them
  9. Hi Zap, my problem is that your Z-League had/has a big influence how SC is played even outside the league. (Therefore thanks to put up again the vote regarding the houserules) From my point of view the problem of declaring war and invade a country in the same turn is not only limited to the mayor powers. The same is valid for the ohter minor countries "Greece, Spain, Norway, Sweden ..." If you would like to be really consequent you should forbid any (seaborne) invasion in the same turn as declaring war perhaps including even invasions from land.
  10. Well "Oak" pointed out to me in another thread that there is an agreement concerning the Italien gambit.... I hope for some more comments from the veteran players if there is really no way to save some of the italien ships in the med thus opening a new front in the Med. I think the way as SC is played right now is toned down to Axis conquest list.... Polen Denmark, France Norway Sweden, Spain, Portugal... DOW Greece Irak, Vichy , Rusia.... (Small variations possible). Med is secured.... Allies try to pull the rabiit out of the hat with a perfectly coordinated attack or delay some of the conquests... Not exciting really becaus e the MPP advantage is always on the side of Germany and the huge bids needed to help Rusia and Britain well speak for themselves...
  11. I agree regarding the "Rome gambit". I would disagree regarding the Italien Gambit. If you would point me to the discussions regarding this topic I would be grateful. Perhaps you can convince me. At the moment my personal view is, forbidding the Italien gambit is handing over the med to the axis and telling the axis player forget about the south throw everything on France... If there is no actual discussion thread regarding this topic we should start a new and I will now stop abusing this thread....
  12. The standart moves look a little bit boring for the Allies... Anybody up discussing an Italien Gambit for the Allies? (excluding the possibility of the Rome Gambit) at least it opens a whole new theater in the Med. And if the Axis Player wants to save some of his ships he has to move some of his air units early to the south of Germany (to prevent a succesful landing in Venice thus delaying the conquest of France)
  13. This should be fun, trying to figure this language out. Here goes: Rome gambit: This is the Allied strategy to take Rome on turn 6-8. (Why do they capitalize the word Einnahme if it means taking?) It has been deemed an unfair strategy (why is Strategie capitalized in the middle of a sentence?), this will give absolute victory against the majority of the players. The strategic gambit has been seen by Hansel & Gretel (those German dudes Gegenmassnahmen/Nachteile are names?). Wolfgang, I headcracked all these German dudes with this strategy, but don't need it (against Zapp, I just concentrate on air, against Wolfgang Spieler he's a joke in ZL, & Rambo is crazy, he makes stupid moves when behind & frustrated). Anyways, the benefit of banning this outways allowing it. How did I do? Rambo </font>
  14. Any offcial word that v1.07 is last Version for SC1? A shame because it is a great game with some glaring game balance issues IMHO. Is there not even a "small" chance for another patch?
  15. If the SC2 is as good as the first part I would certainly spend 15$ extra. Better yet it would be that the game designer /publisher commits himself from the beginning to lets say a year of improvement of the game due to players feedback, for this kind of commitment I would gladly pay extra. I am little bit sad that in SC1 some issues regarding game balance are and probaly will not be adressed simply because the programmer has to move on to earn his living. A certain ammount of money allocated from the beginnig for the explcit purpose of improving the product may help to establish a long term fan base.
  16. Another nice idea, I think its a little bid sad that it is considered game breaking trying to take out the axis fleet in Italy in the first turns. On the other hand considered perfectly normal giving Norway, Greece the Med on silver plate to the Axis player... [ October 29, 2003, 08:48 AM: Message edited by: Sombra ]
  17. Nice way to prevent the surprise seaborne invasions would be the rule that ending a ships move in a seasquare next to a habour, capital, or other towns is like a declaration of war or better needs a declaration of war. You could move through the sea squares but standing with an invasion fleet next to Rome for example would be impossible.
  18. Exactly my point of view, taking away the the Italien gambit, only gives the med. directly to the axis player, besides he does´t has to worry about preventing an italien gambit though he can concentrate all his air power to take out the netherlands and conquering all the minors and building up for the final assault on rusia. If the allies attack Ireland, Italy etc. it could be smarter for the axis player delaying the occupation of the the minors thus preventing the war entry of the USA. Though DOW onItaly leads to an more interessting game in my IMHO. Only improvement I would like to see in the Fall Weis 39´is a higher entrechment level of the corps in Rome (thus making the Rome gambit really a GAMBIT) or replace the corps with an army in the north of italy thus making it harder to take out Rome in the first turn of invasion
  19. Different players deifferent views. Luck is for me an integral part of any strategy game. Conditions in war a higly dependent on luck leading to the doctrine of using excessive power (just in case you need it) or gamble and using the minimum . Working in the R&D department of a company I assure you that sientific breakthroughs are not working acording to plans and forecasts. Again you are gambling if you invest on research. I personlly like very much the system implemented in SC. Where I would like to see an improvement is in the behavior of the minor nations/mayor when they are invaded. The distribution of the forces which are availbe should be dependent of the direction of the attack. For example in an attack on Spain or Italy/Greece the distribution of the avaible troops should be around the key cities ot make an succesful (seaborne) invasion as hard as possible. Attacks on minor countries (the german juggernaut conquering all the minors) should lead to an increased war readiness of the USA/rusia and of other minors. Spain should feel threatened after already four other minors have been conquered and additional corps should be avaible in case of war. [ October 28, 2003, 06:28 AM: Message edited by: Sombra ]
