  1. Ok so Im in the thick of things in CMSF and I love spending my time thinking up battle plans and new strategies, especially during boring classes in school, but I have to draw up by hand the maps and I often miss a building here or there, or some other important object on the map.

Is there a place where one can download printable layouts of the maps?

I guess you could go to birds eye view elevation and take a screen shot with fraps, then print.

Get some basic draw program and you could even highlight area such as objectives.

Basic easy on the ink printable map is nice idea for a very long wish list though.

  2. Id prefer the Spanish Legion!! :D

Hmm. just googled them. They look interesting.

    from wikki:

"During the Holy Week processions, the paso carried by legionnaires is held not on the shoulders but on their extended arms to show their faith, toughness, strength, and endurance"

  3. All right, all right, here I am ! :D

Yes, they are part of the Army. Actually, the Troupes de Marine have the same TO&E than the rest of the French Army. The distinction is more a matter of tradition, and a training that involves amphibious operations.

The French Infantry Platoon is currently organized as followed :

1 Command Element : Platoon Leader, 2IC and RTO.

    3 Squads : 8 men squad, with 2 three-men teams and 1 sharpshooter.

1 AT squad : 5 men squad with 2 ERYX ATGMs.

4 Vehicles : VBCI or VAB, 2 crewmen each.

Well , I just got a whole lot more interested in playing with the French. Legion would be good too. Same CMSF's production line has ended.

  4. Already have it on pre-order. Own all of the TOW games and love the engine although game options have been limited in past releases Korea and it's new strategy mode could be what I have been waiting for in the series.

TOW is real time only, right?

  5. Tiger 1 had power traverse and a manual crank for back up (2 turns per degree of traverse), the Tiger crews had to use this method, sometimes, as non-penetrating hits could knock out the electrical traverse. A thing to remember also is the superior steering systems of both tanks, where the tank could turn on the spot (care had to be taken not to damage the drive train), but in emergency combat situations US tankers were surprised how quickly a flanked Panther could become a head on Panther!

Hmm, hope the Tac AI mirrors this with armour manned by competent crews.

  6. If I raise that they will just make it consistent by removing the 1st Sgt too (thought they already had).

The decision was to have none of the senior NCOs for the “admin focused” reasons mentioned above.

You may or may not agree, but I’m certain it wont be on the list for the “last hurrah” 1.32 patch.

And as I say putting them back “in” is on my list for CM:SF2.

That's the thing though. Some of these admin guys are not just admin in CMSF scenario. Taken to absurd but like the buggle plattoon are not buggles on ops.

  7. I was playing recently, and saw for the first time the company first sgt. when the company XO got hit. Is there a sgt. major as apart of Battalion XO section?

And the big question; Why no platoon sgt. attached to platoon HQ sections? I just had a platoon leader get it, and noticed a PFC took over HQ section. That doesn't seem right.

Mighty fine question. Interested in any inside response.

  8. I agree that SOF units would be great, but I think the problem with including them is that they don't use conventional equipment and tactics and these all change depending on the mission as well. This would all have to be modeled in CMSF to do them justice, otherwise they aren't much different from regular soldiers set at "elite" experience, which you can already do in CMSF.

That's exactlty it. Elite, fit and determined troops with different TOE, and varaid unit size.

Large fighting patrol fighted with new body armour, lighter but more protection. Several gpmgs in the bloated squad. Makes for a good support unit. Not supermen, with steel skin; but an interesting support group as per incresing use by the west. Or flip it, Sec ops, on a secure a target supported by light infantry.

Used to be uniterested in Spec ops games. Like many here I love the infantry fight; but these days they show up for most major gigs.

  9. Unconfirmed news today that an SAS team has been captured.

If it's true I would question whether they were optimally supported because of a rush job at the time of extreme overstretch and cuts.

Back to CMSF- if ever there was a time to include Special Services then it was with SF. Wonder whether we'll get them for SFx2 because it seems the nature of Western warfighting leans towards using them to augmnet main forces.

  10. Fog of War is a must see for anybody bored obout listening to the conspiracy theorists going on about USSR notbeing a real threat and the Military Industrial Complex talking up the threat. +1 for brotherhood.

I actually like the fims "Patton" and "MacArthur" and "The Longest Day."

Like the sound of "Men at Arnhem" being made into a film; but we have quite a wait. IMDB has it slated for 2014. Yeah let's not forget "A Bridge too Far", my old sergeant major was in it as an extra.

  11. There always were, only that in CMSF the reinforcement levels were generally low, especially if battles were taking place within a short time.

So it depends on the campaign. Reinforcement levels are set on a per-battle basis, so it can vary from 0% to 100% during one campaign.

I presume that's 0% to 100% of replacement quota, rather than % of vacancies.

  12. Loving the debate that Jason C is prompting.

Let me premise this that I have no complaint with how casualties generally stack up in CMSF game, and very unlikely to complain about Normandy's.

That said, the realism issue (however accurately argued by JC) promted some thoughts.

Seems to be a school of thought that less dead will be less fun. Hmm I go with that some way because I don't want to play 4 hrs of waiting for squads to unpin all the time. But, Steve metioned that they are going to look at how casualties are dealt with in more depth in the future. This, I think he said may be an option available aka Iron mode. If he was talking a little more than just increasing the time it takes then could this provide some of the fun. More detailed and emotive effects of casualties and supression represented in actual effects in game and the visual and audio.

Re specifics of casualties in Normandy; an account of the Canadian Black Watch attack on Verrières Ridge springs to mind: "Of the 325 men that left the assembly area, 315 of them were either killed, wounded, or captured". Unique circumstances in this one from the German perspective that I read.
