  1. I want both SC2 and WaW simply because SC2 won't be global, and WaW looks like it will at least be fun. But I reserve the right to be as wrong as I was when I got excited about HoI
  2. That option has been done before in other games, must be acceptable. I know it is an option in Steel Panthers.
  3. We historians support you, but the German government doesn't. And trashing sales in Europe, is generally not a good idea.
  4. I once played the attack on Poland till I had the opening move down to a science. Now granted, I took out Poland on the first move, but it wasn't free, my units still took damage. And I ran that perfectly timed out notion a handful of times, and it didn't always resolve perfectly. Thus, in ten games against a single individual, running the same basic situation, and they get 10 near perfection resolutions, I would be inclined to be more than a bit suspicious. I have played games where I was nearly capable of being termed unlucky and incompetent in my defense of France. I have also played guys that had to accept their game was already in the toilet thanks to my defense of France. And even after I lost France. But no one is going to get 10 near perfection results in a row. I would say time to move on to a new opponent, and just politely fade away whenever that person asks for a game. Better to just be conveniently "unavailable". It's safer, less damaging if you were actually mistaken, and if you are correct, says more than enough to the potential offender.
  5. Oh by the way, I was a Mormon, yes Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am an Aronic Priest. Oh and no, I don't care what you say about them, as the important part of this post is "I was"
  6. Well that would be akin to belonging to an isolated league I think Carl But a more precise interpetation, would be to assume that according to the Mormon SC bible, all other Grand Strategy games were simply in denial of the one true game. They had all fallen away from the straight and narrow. They had embraced ideas, practices and beliefs that would surely damn their advocates. And truely, Hubert is the Prophet. And only those he sanctions are given true authourity to go forth and design real mods. And I was obviously a Mormon to long for my own good heheh
  7. You OOOOONLY need this link. http://www.ww2n.com/schq/ Download the Strategy Guide, it isn't a manual, it's exactly what you requested, a "how do I win in this game" document. It's 90 pages of advice gleaned from us players and written up by one of our better members. Well illustrated too. Might take you longer than 5 minutes to read though, and no, its not a worthless tutorial bore.
  8. Not wanting to be fussy, just trying to be helpful, but suspect the word you wanted was "morale". As moral is like as in the moral of the story is.. While I believe you were trying for when a unit takes to many losses, it suffers a break in its morale.
  9. HTTR and KP are both computer games put out through Matrix Games for purposes of this discussion. But yes, I also recognise the board game titles you might have thought we were mentioning.
  10. This game was never designed for the fussy nature of operational wargaming. Kudos to HC if he ever tries his hand at making one of course. But I would rather wait for him to make that game if he feels like it. He could call it Operational Command even But I want SC to remain a game of Grand Strategy. And that means armies and corps basically.
  11. Good news, fixed my email problem. Bad news it might have been human error (me duh!). Good news it wasn't a virus. Bad news, I only had for messages waiting after a week sob nobody sent me any mail hehe.
  12. I have not been following WaW to closely. They have a forum of course at Matrix Games and all, but that only goes so far. I am only wanting it to be a super Axis and Allies really. As long as the AI is at least not a moron, I will be ok. I have been also thinking of buying Neppa Games board game ETO to get my global fix in. It looks about the same as WaW. Currently, I would have to vote "Grand Strategy", as being computer wargaming's hardest target to do properly.
  13. In 2005, the only games I expect to have on my plate as new purchases, are SC2 and Gary's World at War. SC2 is easy. I won't be going into that purchase wondering if it's any good. Gary's name is likely all I need on the box for WaW.
  14. "Les - what are you playing these days" Well, sadly, the last hmmm year or so, I have been saddled with the burden of making a resolution of whether to move or not. Major stress load to be sure. But I won't bore you with personal life details. Just suffice it to say, the threat of wanting to move, has really dulled my desire to set up any of my long term board games (as well as work on some models, and fix up the place any). Soooo most of my activity has been on computer (because it's easier to pick up my computer hehe). Last year I was big involved with work on Steel Panthers World at War and the Mega Campaign Screaming Eagles. My summer was a lot of playing Steel Panthers hehe. "Sorry dear, can't do that for ya, busy working" The current situation with Steel Panthers World at War though, is a lot of fuss over trying to get the OOBs finally done juuuuuuuuuust right (never happen). And Sp Cammo is set to release major redos of their SPWW2 and SPMBT files. And I am hoping to secure a buddy's old P2 system clunker to load some old "I WANT DOS and Win 98SE! wargames on it. Thinking of using it as a device to play Steel Panthers 3 and SPWW2 and SPMBT mostly. Seems the bettter solution in my case. I have the Panzer General series (and it all runs un XP which is nice). And the Campaign series. I have TOAW COW, but have not devoted much time to it, Its a big game so to speak. But it fills my need to play those big room eating board games. I also have a few Panzer Campaign series games. My latest thing is Highway to the Reich. I am a devoted ASLer, but have not had time to get into it for a while. I am thinking of actually doing something of a pet project for it though. Plus I have the loonie notion of trying to invent some form of novelization of ASL (hey they do it for all sorts of games already eh). I have a mountain of games of course, but there are only so many hours in the day (even if you have unrestricted use of them, the day is still ONLY 24 hours long hehe).
  15. Well just saw this link over at Matrix Games. Would have mentioned it there, but as the member in question is well, about as rude a swine as it gets, figured, nah, just ignore him. http://www.paradoxplaza.com/news.asp?ArticleID=159&Page=News "Hearts of Iron 2 will be in stores on most major markets in the beginning of 2005" That taken from the link. Wonder if it's a typo though. Wonder if they meant, "Hearts of Iron 2 will be in stores on most major markets in the beginning of 2005 (whether it's ready to be played or not)" What bothered me the most on the advertisement, was this remark though. "Award-winning Swedish games developer Paradox Entertainment today announced a sequel to the most appreciated World War 2 strategy game ever made." Most appreciated? Do they have the right game and company? Sounds like they are talking about Strategic Command and just don't realise it Hey, has anyone ever given an award to Hubert? And if not, are these "awards" basically as reliable as an Oscar (you know, its all in who you know, and not about whether the product is really worth squat). Oh well, because I am a nice guy , and because maybe at least one of you guys will give a flying fiddle dee dee about anything to do with this title, I am mentioning it. I will even spare a smidgen of effort, and cross my fingers fer ya, that they at least don't make you wait a year or more, before Hearts of Iron 2 can stand on it's own as worth the time to even install. "There are not many teams that can deliver a game of the scope that Hearts of Iron presents" Don't we know it eh guys, there are only so many Hubert Caters out there.
  16. "We should feel happy to belong to an exclusive club that signifies we have brains and an attention span longer than an episode of "The Bachelor." And there in lies the reason why I so hate so much of the RTS scene and the cutsey 3d crowd. Because we ARE a fairly unique hence exclusive crowd we wargamers. And that will always interfere with making our hobby of any value to those that really aren't "us". That's not me being "superior", its me recognizing what makes me what I am, and recognising that what makes me what I am, will not likely matter to someone intrinsically not like me. I have for instance, no interest in understanding "jocks". I could care less for 99% of the world of professional sports. The only time I have ever "watched the game", is when I have been "hanging out" with a mixed bag of friends, some of whom are wargamers, and some not. I am a grognard, I get off on dull boring looking simulations of military history
  17. SC is for whatever we like to call it like chess. You can learn the "how" to play it in minutes, but forget beating some of our better players without doing your homework hehe. Korsun and HTTR were also good choices from a hex using turn loving (or at least realitic simulation perspective real time set up) wargamers point of view. Keep your eye on World at War being made by Gary over at Matrix Games. It promises to be a great companion to SC. If you ain't tried one of the Mega Campaigns for Steel Panthers, then you ain't done buying yet I suggest the Watchtower MC if you want a fresh theatre (because Europe is soooooo done to death in some many genres). If you like Modern, give a look into SP Cammo's game SPMBT, one of the better modern tactical choices out there. I also think TacOps 4 has something to say for it. But the graphics might come off a bit bland. No serious collection is complete if you don't have some of the Operational Art of War series in your collection. There is a demo out for it, but it's seriously dated. What you will want is the release called Century of Warfare (as the older ones might give you OS trouble). It is the whole schlameal in one cd of all that has ever been made for the series. It's a Talonsoft title though, so supplies my be a nuisance. HPS has several titles by John Tiller that are about the same grade of experience. I also recommend them.
  18. Well, uh, yeah, it would seem I have one person I am playing by email, but not sure he is a forum follower. Can't know if he is aware I can't send or recieve turns. Rather vexing. No idea what is up with my service. Haven't had time to phone them yet either.
  19. The trick, is we need Campaign specific conditions. In 1944, the Siegfried line was most assuredly there. Yet it isn't in the Campaign in SC. And I think this could be said of a few other spots on the map that became important later in the war, that need to be allowed into the game when designing Campaigns. I am hoping the editor makes this all rather a moot problem though.
  20. Well actually, most of "ME" saying it is crap, is mostly "ME" saying I have interacted with quite a large volume of others that have both bought it, tried to give a hoot about it, and given up in disgust over it. Most of my opinion, is really just me passing along the opinions of a lot of others. I don't hate games that are not turn based defacto without consideration, that is unwise. I have a copy of Squad Assault here. Its an ok game, where its genre is concerned. It has some problems which I think will be hammered out during the next release title. It has had a lot of its own troubles addressed in recent patches. Still it is really what it is. I have the game, but it isn't in my top 5 must spend time playing games. I am sticking with my opinion though. I didn't judge the book by its cover, I judged it by the anger of a lot of people that bought it. Turn based games are not immune to my opinion though. Steel Panthers, one of my best games, has absolutely no play value whatsoever in Battle mode style against the AI. And against a human, will be as likely to fizzle, as any DYO game for ASL that I ever wasted time on. Some ideas work, some don't, and some refuse to accept when an idea fails, you don't just hit it harder with the hammer.
  21. To me the internet has meant a great opportunity to get real time input on wargames both board game version and computer game version circumventing the need to follow magazines that were never really efficient for more than indepth articles about games that were already "done". I doubt I would have clue one of what had been produced after 1990 without the benefit of my computer. I wouldn't have ANY computer wargames, and I would have likely not known if the hobby had died slumbered or otherwise. I most certainly would still likely just be playing mostly ASL, but likely would have built a few hundred more models as well instead
  22. Precisely Desert Dave If the game is any good fine. If it isn't finished, then damnit all, finish it first, especially if your plan is to dump it on a shelf and then leave it to do its own PR work solo. In spite of my whining about Combat Leader (which I can say I have been waiting years for), I would rather wait another year for a 70 dollar game, then get it now because I whined a lot, just to find I have another years worth of whining because it isn't actually ready to play.
  23. This is probably what you were looking for http://www.ww2n.com/schq/
