  1. Under what situation is it normal for squads or vehicles to lose radios or FBC2 equipment, not counting splitting, casualties, or damage from fire? When squads lost radios from exiting vehicles that was a bug, and I just wanted to make sure there are situations where this is normal.

When they're running there will be no radio contact and it takes a moment or so when they stop to re-establish radio contact. At least in my experience. This goes for most pieces of equipment. Which makes sense really.

  2. I first noticed this back when the UK module came out and I have now seen it in the NATO module. When given an area fire order, the UK and GE automatic grenade launchers never seem to fire. The only way I have been able to get them to fire is at an identified target, thus they can never be used for suppression against suspected targets. Has anyone else noticed this?

Are you talking about the automatic grenade launcher mounted on the jeeps? Because it works fine with me.

  3. The irony is that I would take a sherman over an abrams anyday in a CM:SF scenario. The reason is that the abrams has very few rounds for that beefy gun and fires so fast that you loose half your main gun rounds taking down a single sniper.

I miss my vanilla infantry with vanilla shermans. Ah the days of Short 75 rules . . .

The difference is that most of that ammo in Sherman will eventually miss their target :P

  4. I just want to control when my BMP-1 fires its HE gun or AT missles! Geeeezzzz.

I wonder if it would be practical to bring back a menu like in CMx1 where you could choose between main gun + machine guns or just machine guns, when area firing with a tank. But ONLY when using target light, you could then select which weapons you want. This way you can have finer controls if you want, but still the old behaviour in the other case.

  5. No, not at all, because (as always) the suit itself, plus the scrim used would be designed and selected to blend in with the local surroundings.

As to whether or not ghillie suits are worn in the Middle East, I will accept the verdict of those who served in that particular theatre; I didn't. It also seems from the replies that coding would be a problem. HOWEVER with my sniping hat on, I would surmise that for activities such as stalking, or anything that takes a sniper pair out on their own, full cam (ie a ghillie suit) would almost certainly be worn.

My second point is of more significance to the game. Sniper pairs (at least those in the Brit Army) should be given MFC capabilities.

    SLR

If you're talking about the capability of sniper teams in the game to call in artillery, this was a bug and will be fixed in the next patch.

Whether they will be better than a regular squads, is something else.

  6. 1. Its not real life.

    2. In real life you would check and re-check your equipment. If you forgot your charges that would be a huge mistake, second only to forgetting your main weapon. And if you forgot your radio you’d be fired and sent to the quartermasters shop.

    3. All this screaming????????? What are you talking about? I didn’t realize my post were audible. But if they were I can assure you they wouldn’t be screams.

    4. Why does the BFC militia come out and start accusing other posters of screaming because they want the game to be fixed. I haven’t bashed BFC, quiet the contrary, I stated several times that I love BFC. I just want a hot fix for a problem that has already been fixed. That’s all.

Look, it's just one opinion. Don't get worked up about it. Hopefully the bugs will be fixed soon.

  7. For what it's worth, here's how I manage to get a 1.21 PBEM going in 1.30.

    1) Open PBEM file sent by opponent

    2) Watch movie, press red button to order phase in 1.21

    3) Make a save game in 1.21

    4) Exit battle, exit game

    5) Go to save games and copy save game into save game folder of 1.30

    6) Load save game in 1.30

    7) Issue orders

    8) Press red button to make a PBEM file for my oppponent

    9) Send

  8. Normally you can only license on two PCs, which means if you want to install the game on third you have to UNlicense on one of the other PCs. Try to unlicense on the Vista or Win7 pc and try to install again on the XP to see what the problem is about.

For what it's worth, the game should run fine on all three systems. Can you be more specific about any error messages you get?

  9. Strange, but M1A1FEP (this is correct designation BTW, not M1A1HC FEP), should have been equiped with FBCB2, Marines fielded it even before 2003 Iraq invasion. Normal Marines M1A1HC are not equipped with such...

But to be honest, any M1A1 can be retroffited with FBCB2, in OIF many M1A1HA's, HA+ or HC variants, both Army and Marines were equipped with FBCB2's.

This would shown in the C2 icons no?, if the tanks had FBCB?

  10. CMBB and CMAK both run fine on my Win7 Home(32 bit) laptop and my Win7 Pro(64 bit) home computer. When running Vista, neither would work without the patches. In my circle of gaming partners I have not heard any different.

Conspiracy theories and cereal boxes are tied at the hip! :)

I had two 64bit systems and CMAK did not work for me, I looked on the forum and this was what I seem to remember. Maybe it has to do with the graphics card. Anyway if you can run it fine, if not you can get the patch for a small price. Firefox still rock though :)

  11. I have read enough threads over at Band of Brothers complaining about the incompatibility of CMBB (especially) with their newly purchased computer systems to know it's not imagined. Why the snarkiness with your cereal box comment?

Not really. As I said, I know of enough people who have had real problems with running the old CMx1 games on their brand new computers to put in me in no doubt the problem exists and then, all of a sudden, I'm unable to access the BFC website from home using my older model laptop running XP & Explorer v6 that runs CMx1 like a charm. It's not too far of a stretch to presume that there may be an agenda to have people update their computers using the latest hardware but, in the process of upgrading, find out they can't run the old CMx1 games anymore. But hey.... there's this brand new CMx2 game coming out soon that we guarantee wont have any problems with your hardware!

It's not exactly up there with Nazi flying saucers I agree, but still a plausible hypothesis from where I sit.

    Regards

    KR

CMBB and CMAK do not work if you have a 64bit operating system like Vista64 of Win7 64 bit. It works fine with the 32 bit version of these systems. If you want to play CMBB or CMAK on Vista64 or Win7 64bit you have to pay a small amount for a patch by BFC (what I did) and then there is no problem.

And as much as I hate having to upgrade, you can't expect your particular hardware/software to be maintained forever. New technologies are coming out all the time

allowing designers to do much more, in a sense having to support really old systems holds back "progress" :).

Internet explorer is 10 years old now so maybe it's time to move on.

You can get Internet explorer 7 for free, or firefox for free or chrome for free or opera for free. All of which will run fine on windows XP (firefox, chrome and opera will probably run faster and take less memory then IE6) so you can see both the BFC website and keep playing CMBB/CMAK :D.

  12. This.

Colored lines to subordinates would also help clear up OOB hierarchy as well as simplify C2 understanding (possibly vertical lines to off map command and for FOB when calling in support?).

I find the C2 system to be quite intuitive but there are always room for improvement.

Another thing, something that actually bugs me a bit is radio C2. It has gotten more common with the NATO module. Sometimes the radio icon disappears and I can't tell if it's because the unit lost their radio, bad coverage, out of batteries, out of range, interference or whatever might be behind it. And as there is no clear explanation to the mechanics behind it/what affects it I can't intuitively grasp how to avoid it.

    * Does high ground help radio in game as it does OOG?

    * Do the radios even have a maximum range or is it outside of the scope of the game?

    * Does absence of trees or closeness to water help?

    * Is radio C2 less likely indoors?

    * Can units close to, but not mounted on, vehicles use their C2 equipment via voice/signs to the crew?

    * Are units able to use neighboring units C2 even if they're from a different platoon/company for target spotting?

    * Are my M1A2 SEP able to share target data with the Bradleys currently on the field (are there differences between the models)?

    And so forth...

Sometimes moving around the HQ will clear up C2 to higher command for the platoon HQ AND subordinates. Sometimes they lose it while inside a vehicle and unmounting clears it up but every time it's trial and error.

For now I've been forced to use the opfor tactics (when playing NATO) of keeping everyone inside visible and voice range to keep C2.

I don't think the put the physics of the radios in. But some clarity about why a certain link is lost would be very welcome.

  13. I couldn't agree more. I'm sure the engine is all great and fantastic under the hood, there is C2, relative spotting, panel and systems damage, morale and more, but it's all barely noticeable to the player. Look at the examples:

Morale - it's there, but it lasts only few seconds it seems. Last man standing from a devastated 8 man squad regularly manage first round RPG hits.

C2 - ok nice, but I can still call artillery even with no radio.

Damage - great, but it seems every time I get hit by an RPG it's a total kill. No duds, no light damage (unless the target is a tank)

relative spotting - it's there, but I can still target any unit, no matter if my unit can see it or know about it.

C2 - influences spotting, morale, time it takes to call in artillery

Damage - I can show you plenty of vehicles of mine (not tanks) that can't target probably because the optics are damage, cannot move much slower because the wheels are damaged

Relative spotting - Do you know what happens when you don't have that? As soon as a unit is spotted, everyone and their mother starts shooting at it. Instant kill.

You don't absolutely need to take these things into account to play, but that doesn't mean it's not important or doesn't have an influence. I for example don't pay much attention to experience, and use every unit like their regular, instead of sending the crack troops for the harder missions, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be there.
