  1. So no Hide command then, right? Just a CA. But will he not be sticking his head up looking around and thus get spotted from a distance?

    Thanks,

    Gerry

If you hide him, he will hide and won't ambush anyone until he's under fire.. maybe. If you want to setup an ambush, use a small cover arc - hold shift down when making the arc and it'll make a 360. By doing that, he'll attempt to stay hidden until someone comes close.
  2. Hello All:

I need help setting up an ambush in a building. Here is what I have tried (imagine a window and a door close to each other). Single man is under the window and has a Hide command and also a Face command towards the nearby door.

Graphically he is flat on the ground. However, someone from outside, maybe in a closely-located building kills him. How could they see him if he is hiding on the ground?

I was hoping he would open fire when an enemy entered the building. Is there a proper way to set this up?

    Thanks,

    Gerry

  3. Hello All:

I am playing a battle with 2 different opponents. How can I tell H2HH how to route the files properly? Dropbox adds "(1)" to the name of the second folder. So the 2 Dropbox folders are now Battle and Battle (1). Do I just rename the PBEM file for the second opponent to Battle (1) to match Dropbox. Not even sure CMFI allows parenthesis in file names.

    Thanks,

    Gerry

  4. Hello All:

In CMFI I have seen shaken Italians in a building running out of the building and towards the enemy and a certain death. I though maybe it was the poor quality of Italian troops.

Now I have seen it with German troops as well. Wondering if this is a bug? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to run the other way? I realize they are not in a good mental condition but still...

    Thanks,

    Gerry

  5. Hello All:

I had a Infantry Gun set up near FHs. The crew was in a FH but the Gun was sitting between 2 FH depictions. There is a Wall a little in front of the FH.

Anyways, the Gun had no LOS forward. Even though it wasn't sitting in a FH depiction was it still considered in a FH and thus not able to fire over the wall?

    Thanks,

    Gerry

  6. Hello All:

I have a Platoon HQ which has a radio. They have called in fire from an Infantry Gun which is next to Company HQ with a Radio. I adjusted the mission.

The dialog box says Spotting but not a single round has landed. Any idea what is going on?

(Some of you are probably smiling as I am the one that started the thread about disliking artillery! However, it is in the toolbox so I will use it. Nevertheless I do dislike the power it has and that includes as the owner of said artillery.)

    Thanks,

    Gerry

  7. Hello All:

I know some stuff in the game is abstracted. I am wondering about units firing into/out of buildings from a wall where there are windows/doors. I am not thinking about the units being further back from the windows compared to CMBN 1.0. I have seen a unit fire out where there does not appear to be an aperture. And I have my unit outside the building that can see them. So I don't understand this, especially the latter part.

    Thanks,

    Gerry

  8. I am suffering from precision light mortar fire right now. Team behind wall. Round drops close by and they keep firing (I had given them a Target order). Now in RL I would expect them to duck behind the wall iso continuing to fire. So I am thinking maybe BF could program that into a unit's behavior.

But it wouldn't have mattered. A bunch of rounds landed right on top of them and killed 3/4.

    ...

But what I can't recall having seen (certainly with much frequency) is the use of 81mm mortars (or smaller ones, for that matter) being used on direct fire like snipers.

  9. I wasn't complaining about the maps, rather the dominance of artillery. The winner seems to be the one that can use artillery best. I assume that artillery will still have a major effect in the east front games.

A comment on making maps. I appreciate there are many talented map makers and modders contributing to the game. But I don't understand the "Make some" comment. I paid money to play a game not to make add-ons for it. Not everyone has a creative nature.

I don't understand the complaining about map sizes. We've got a map editor in-game and with 2.0 it's better than ever. Make some.
  10. Hello All:

CM is such a great game. All these interesting elements - great variety of tanks, squads, AT guns, fausts/schrecks/PIATs/Bazookas, MGs of all types.

But then there is this god element, artillery. This seems to greatly minimize the play of the above elements as the plan so often seems to be: 1) find something important, e.g. an AT Gun; 2) blow the hell out of it with mortars or heavier artillery. Then rinse and repeat.

I just wish the artillery was not so powerful. There can be such great interplay among the other elements of the game. And to me this seems greatly downplayed due to the power of artillery.

    Anyone else thinking like this?

    Gerry
