  6. My grandfather encountered "Seydlitz-troops" in the end of March 1945 while being with the 10. SS Panzerdivision Frundsberg. They had raised giant-loudspeakers on the other side of the Oder, and played the song "Heimat deine Sterne..." ( Homeland your stars.. ) afterwards, there was the scournful call "Die seht ihr nie wieder!" ( You won't see them anymore...), and then followed a heavy artillery strike.... The second encounter was a firefight in the middle of the night with Seydlitz-troops (near the town "Hosena" ), those Seydlitz-troops who were killed that night wore german uniforms and Seydlitz-Cuff Titles....( on April 23 1945 ). 16. Here's the same story as posted by tar, with a KV-II instead of a KV-I... Found here. Greetings, Sven P.S. Has anyone heard the story of a KV-II being destroyed by a shot from a Panzer III through the KV-II's gun barrel ? [ January 16, 2004, 03:52 PM: Message edited by: Trommelfeuer ]
  17. SPOILERS below! . . . . . . . . . . . . . I enjoyed this scenario very much! I thought my Italians could win the battle until the Mathildas came... ..the only penetrating hits were at 8m through the side armour and at 5m through the rear armour of the leading Mathilda (At the end of the battle, I checked it's kill score, it destroyed 5x 75mm portees, 5x M13/40s and caused 22 infantry casualities...), but the beast just rolled on and smashed another two M 13/40s... I got a tactical victory in the end, 64 : 36 ... Axis 386 soldiers O.K. 55 casualities 16 KIAs 26 vehicles destroyed Allies 127 soldiers O.K. 189 casualities 56 KIAs 61 POWs 29 vehicles destroyed Did anyone destroy a Mathilda with M 13/40s in this sceanrio ? 19. Most of Manstein's complex sentences are quite "interlocked", somehow it is writing-style of the past... I have to re-read most sentences to understand them...but I don't have this problem with other books by "modern-writing-style" authors... OMG, this all sounds so dumb, anyway Keke, I hope you understand what I mean. Greetings, Sven [ January 15, 2004, 04:38 PM: Message edited by: Trommelfeuer ]
  20. I've just sent the text to you! ( Typos are by me, not by Manstein... Greetings, Sven
  21. I've copied the part about "Störfang" out of Manstein's "Verlorene Siege" (pages 261-284) to Microsoft word document, shall I sent it to you Andreas ? My impresions of Manstein's writing: * difficult to read, 'cause Manstein writes in an "old school" german-style and he forms very long sentences... * He describes events of "minor" importance for the operation in every detail ( for example the death and the funeral of his driver Fritz Nagel...but it's really interesting, and I understand that F. Nagel was a friend and very important to Manstein after all these years...), but many details of the battle itself are missing... BTW, Sturmvogel has posted some more information on axis history forum: . Greetings, Sven [ January 15, 2004, 11:02 AM: Message edited by: Trommelfeuer ]
  22. Andreas, Thanks a lot for your answer! You are correct, this site really offers awful false information, sorry that I didn't check the site first! ( I didn't find this article by browsing through the website, I found the article by chance with google.) I also disliked how the author is trying to prove his point all the time in "Eine Analyse des Krimfeldzuges der Wehrmacht im Jahre 1942", but I liked the interesting informations about Leutnant Birnbacher's small flottilla of six motor torpedo boats (MTB) some patrol boats and the italian flottilla (in Yalta) of four MTBs, six mini submarines, and four armed motor boats of Capitano di Fregata Bimbelli in cooperation with Oberst Wild's "Schiffsbekämpfungskommando" in the black around Sevastopol in '42...
