  1. I daresay some people regard high-priced games as legitimate targets for piracy, somehow thinking a "licence to copy" is built into the price?
  2. It seems just to be a harmless transient thing,it happens with some units but not others from what I can see. But an inf in a ruined building does usually lose its base totally and is almost invisible to see unless you look hard. Thankfully a couple of essential "Transparent Ruins" mods soon take care of that.
  3. I got an ex-Waffen-SS penpal named Werner living in Inverness Scotland,he served as a Panther radio-operator at Tarnopol on the East Front, then later was a Tiger commander with Hitlerjugend Div in Normandy before the British knocked out his Tiger killing the rest of his crew."But after capture they treated me very well. They knew I was just a soldier doing my job" He was sent to a POW camp in Scotland, married a local girl after the war and settled down with her there. I'll ask him if he wants to contribute a piece for this forum.
  4. Okay let me try to get out of this--The Israelis captured it intact and carted it off for evaluation back in Israel and stencilled a few "lift heres" on it to help their guys transport it around. They blew up the gun to prevent it being re-captured by the Arabs in the future.(It might even be a PT-76 or AMD, I dunno)
  5. If that's an Arab AFV (BMP maybe?) it could have been deliberately wrecked by the Israelis before leaving the battlefield(Egyptian or Golan Front 1973 maybe?) Just a guess.
  6. JA=8 NEIN=0 I hear some guys are still trying to play without the fabulous gridded terrain mods!!!
  7. I read an article about Peiper once, and gather he settled in France after the war, where he was later murdered at home. But WHY FRANCE of all places to choose to live in??? Clue me in please !
  8. CMBB is fabulous as it is,but(stop me if this has already been done somewhere in the forum)maybe a future version could incorporate a timer for solitaire and head-to-head play to spice things up? Not with just a fixed pre-set setting, but with a "variable" option too,so that the pre-set "4 minutes"(or whatever) to complete your order phase may randomly become anything between say 3 mins to 5 mins, just to add a dash of uncertainty? (The variability limits will be selectable beforehand) Other future features could also be drifting smoke (as in Steel Panthers), holes in AFV wrecks to show the fatal rounds entry point, a whole new lesser-abstracted aircraft routine , ditches in the terrain, raised rail embankments , haystacks etc included in random-generated QB maps... (Any other features you guys dream of seeing?)
  9. Hey Guys--If you overlap the transparent mine tiles do you get more mine density(and detonation chance)in the overlap zones?
  10. "The first time the Tiger saw action was on Aug 29th 1942 and Sept 21/22 at Mga,southeast of Leningrad"--www.achtungpanzer.com
  11. And wouldn't it be great if dead AFV's had penetration holes in them in the exact place they were hit..
  12. We unemployed have absolutely nothing to do every day during the 16 hours from getting up at 11a.m. to hitting the sack at 3a.m. except play solo/pbem/tcp CMBB...
  13. Neat posting Terrapin, but if I can just digress-The photo also nicely shows why some German war accounts jokingly refer to T-34's looking like 'Mickey Mouse' when their top hatches were open! (The ears, get it?)
  14. Once saw a photo of a G.I. sitting ON a little captured Goliath with its control box in his hand having fun driving himself around and trying out different buttons..! (Also read a piece once about how U.S.troops used to play around with tiny captured Japanese "Knee mortars" and mistakenly thought the name meant you knelt down and rested it on your thigh to fire it.But after a string of compound fractured femurs the word quickly got round..)
  15. The natural predator against all light armour are AT-rifles because they're so hard to spot in good cover! For turn after turn the enemy will hear the dull thump of an ATR followed by "penetration" on a HT and go crazy wondering where the wicked little slugs are coming from! And they have around 70 shots apiece, plus some anti-infantry capability...
  16. Once saw a photo of a dead Russian alsatian dog in a war book(6th Pz Div history I think) with a satchel charge of explosives strapped to its back and a short stick trigger-rod sticking up vertically from the device. Apparently Ivan trained them to run under German tanks and boom, goodbye panzer and Rover! The dog in the pic had been shot as it approached Jerry lines, and then photographed by the Nazis for propaganda against the "inhumane" Russkis. Edited to include this appropriately sad face- [ December 19, 2002, 08:43 PM: Message edited by: Headshot ]
  17. I like to regard the tinny screeching detonation of a "Hit" as the sound made by a crewman whose genitals have just been traumatically amputated by a grenade blast coming up through the thin armour floor plates.
  18. Shakesp's J.Caesar (smugly) to soothsayer:-"Well,the Ides of March are come!" Soothsayer :-"Aye Caesar, but not gone!"
  19. The Germans later adopted the Panzerglock (Panzer bell) attacking formation. (The bells--The bells!)
  20. Stupidest things I did in my early CMBB pbem days was agreeing to my opponents choice of set-up parameters to avoid hurting their feelings by telling them their creations stank! With everything weighted in their favour,no wonder I kept losing big-time! NO MORE MR.NICE GUY !
  21. Muzz:-Work is the place where lots of lucky people have to get up at the crack of dark frosty dawns to get to,and spend all day doing exciting vibrant jobs, then make their way home pleasantly tired out and play an hour or two of CMBB before falling exhausted into bed so they can repeat the whole thing next day! But we poor unemployed have nothing to do for the 16 hours from getting up at 11a.m. to hitting the sack at 3a.m other than play CMBB non-stop!
  22. Regardless of what database says, the computer never issues Fausts to my Jerries in 41,but they do sometimes get rifle-grenades whose equipment graphic is similar to the Faust. (edit-"almost" similar) [ December 19, 2002, 01:22 PM: Message edited by: Headshot ]
  23. I was caught red-handed by my ex-boss(a chinese woman)once when I was drawing a battle map and troop dispositions on a large sheet of paper instead of doing my job as a physics lab assistant, but I was able to talk my way out of it by convincing Madam Butterfly it was an astronomical chart for the lab wall!
  24. I remember a couple of PC wargames a few years back had a "Hide Boss" button constantly visible during play which could be quickly clicked at the approach of the boss to hide the game behind a business-like phoney screen!
