  1. Tell you what, we'll have a PBEM battle of CMBB vs. CMBO, 50/50 between the games. Best of 7. Loser WALKS!!!!
  2. Marleen is a good choice. It's pretty. "Aus dem stillen Raume, Aus der Erde Grund Hebt mich wie im Traume Dein verliebter Mund Wenn sich die späten Nebel drehn Werd' ich bei der Laterne steh'n 'Wie einst Lili Marleen.'
  3. I don't know why people insist on giving a free pass to people who write on the web. It's kind of condescending to the web. If this was a magazine, you guys would be laughing your a$$ off. Well, laughing more, anyways.
  4. I actually have moral problems replacing it with nearly any German war song of the time. I mean, there's no way Horst Wessel Lied is going on there for example, it just feels too creepy. I actually can't play as an SS Division in the game due to the same reasons. [ December 13, 2002, 10:05 PM: Message edited by: Terrapin ]
  5. How?! In a QB you have to select the fitness for ALL the troops or pick "Random", in which case it picks for you. Er, I'm guessing you now have an entire Company of infantry that is strapped to oxygen tanks and wheelchairs, correct? [ December 13, 2002, 09:48 PM: Message edited by: Terrapin ]
  6. It's an easy fix for the second run. I think they wanted this one out the door quick. Most of the really useful stuff is fine.
  7. Had a PZGrenadier squad piss one off so it would growl and show it's teeth once.
  8. Did somebody actually say that, or are you making it up? Michael</font>
  9. And God knows, it's highly unusual to release a strategy/tips book for a game. I can't think of another game that has one. My local Best Buy certainly doesn't stock two whole shelves full of them, that's for sure.
  10. I'm guessing their spotting goes out the window.
  11. Good for you, man. It's impressive that people in this day and age are willing to stand up for a few important principles that they believe in, instead of caving into corporate greed. I salute you.
  12. Well, the woods are abstracted a bit, and so is the actual "to the inch" location of the mortar. I think the game assumes that the mortar team is bright enough to find a little clearing in the woods to fire it off.
  13. I had a Company HQ engage one using ivory-handled Colts once.
  14. Why do you assume that everyone is a clone of everyone else and thinks the same exact way? Some people want extra help and tips, and some people want to be left alone. If you put it in the manual, everyone gets every tip. If you allow other people the option of buying extra help, those people will be happy and everyone will be happy. Are you going to buy a book or not?
  15. The M17 MGMC (Multiple-Gun Motor Carriage) is a great weapon. It's the ultimate "Anti-Half Track" weapon, in that it brews up any other half-track something fierce (usually in a spectacular explosion).
  16. Good decision. A conscript routed by IS-2 MG fire should only be so clever. Give our best to the Field Kitchen for us! [ December 13, 2002, 06:09 PM: Message edited by: Terrapin ]
  17. Give me an F'ing break! What an asinine statement! Yeah, the "Suits" (read: Steve, Charles and Marty), are so interested in lining their pockets, that they spend all of their time listening to idiots like us complain about the proper paint-job on the August 42 Kubelwagen, and try to make a fantastic game that gives a compatively **very small** amount of hard-core gamers woodies. Why don't you think any major studio makes real strategy games anymore? They could use their programming, research and game design skills to make a pure RTS "strategy" game with Orcs and Undead and sell 10 times as many copies. You don't think that with a little effort they couldn't "mass marketize" this game? It already has better graphics, sound, and gameplay than 95% of the games sold at Best Buy.
  18. Or do what I do and explore the game a bit by making your own scenario that faces off multiple tanks against each other and see the result. My conclusion: The IS-2 gets outshot 4-1 by a T34, but can kill it at 1500 meters, so don't get close to the T34. And it was a DAMN fune experiment (just WATCHING a T34 bounce shell after shell off the impervious IS-2 at 1200 meters was worth it) I do this with infantry squads too, to see, at a particular range with no cover, what group can outshoot what other group. Must everyone have everything handed to them on a platter nowadays?
  19. Is this during setup, because I didn't think once the battle started you could reassign a squad to another HQ, unless it was higher-ranked than Platoon. Maybe I'm just imagining things. I'm less diligent than I should be on the HQ stuff. Edit: Just noticed it IS during a setup, I don't know what to tell you. [ December 13, 2002, 05:45 PM: Message edited by: Terrapin ]
  20. AKA the "Morrowind Principle". BTS will have to go a LONG way to beat Bethesda Soft in this regard.
  21. Here I'll do it for you. I'm clairvoyant. It's a gift. 1. Warcraft III (Strategy Game of The Year!) - 94,271 Votes 2. Age of Mythology - 60,563 Votes 3. Medieval: Total War - 52,294 Votes 4. Age of Wonders 2 - 42,349 Votes 5. Unreal Tournament II (write-in votes) - 24,291 Votes 6. Metroid Prime - (write-in) - 14,322 Votes ... 18. Combat Mission: BB - 72 Votes God love the casual strategy gamer.
  22. I wish. At those prices I could retire and buy myself a PzKw IV-D to ride up to the convenience store in.
  23. I didn't think you could make a QB that small. I thought 800 was kind of the minimum (it's MY minimum). 300 points...that's like the CMBB version of Monty Python's Batly Townswomens' Guild's Re-Enactment of the Battle of Hastings.
