Well, I checked my system while I was home for lunch and it's even more outdated than I remembered. The Kingston stick is actually ValueRAM, PC133 SDRAM. The graphics card is a 32mb Radeon 7000 AGP. So, maybe two new RAM sticks and a new video card to start with...and then the CPU/mobo upgrade.
-
Is it DDR PC2100 or older than that? If you get a newer motherboard you may have to scrap the older RAM. Just something to keep in mind. </font>
-
I'm going from memory here, but I think it's one stick of Kingston 256mb DDR and the whatever the OEM 64mb stick was that came with the system.
-
The video card is pretty decent, although I'm looking at replacing that as well. It's an ATI Radeon (don't remember which exact model number) and I'm tired of the "no fog" bit with CM, so I'm going with something with the Nvidia chipset.

I'm trying to stretch some miles out of this 3 year old Gateway, and one of the things I'm looking at is replacing the CPU. Right now it's a 900 Mhz AMD Athlon. I'd like to get it up around 1.8-2.0 gigs if possible. I'm sure I'll have to replace the motherboard as well, so I've been thinking about a decent Nforce2 board and an AMD Barton 2600 chip. Would I see much benefit with this change gamewise with resource hogs like the bigger CMAK/CMBB scenarios or games like Soldiers? If not, what would you recommend for improved game performance? I could probably do with a little more RAM as well, I've got 320MB right now. I should probably pull the 64MB stick and replace it with a second 256. I seem to remember that AndrewTF did a mod for CMBO that included Italian cammo pants. I don't think I've seen one for tunics or the cammo overalls, or "kombi" I think it was called by the Germans.

The tricolor version is up at CMMODs, in the CMBB section, but it also works for CMAK with no renumbering. I had almost finished the ambush version, but we moved and my home computer sat boxed up while we painted and did some improvements on the house. I suppose it's about time I drug it back out and finished it, eh? -

What are you guy's impressions of the GeForce FX5900 SE versus the FX5900 XT? -

Actually, I'm wrong anyway. I looked at my refs while I was home for lunch, and as best I can tell, the ambush pattern was started in August of '44, so there is the possibility of an overlap of zimmerit and the ambush pattern. -

I'm teasing ya mostly. I may just ambush both of 'em and you can use whichever you like better. -

Well... being the semi-grog that I am, I'll probably do the ambush scheme on the non-zimmerit version, since I'm pretty sure zimmerit was dropped before the ambush patterns appeared (Sept '44 vs Dec '44 IIRC). Maybe not though, it is just a game, right? -
As a "for example" of sorts, look at how Lt. Dike was replaced as CO of Easy co. in the middle of the assault on Foy.

Yep, in the works as well. They're slow-coming though, I've got to work around a full time job and playing guitar in two working bands. -

Yep...I intend to ambush the KT much the same as the pattern on the Panzer IV I'm doing. I'll probably just go ahead and post the Panzer IV/J with ambush scheme as it is and forget the mesh skirts. They're not really turning out like I'd hoped. -

Pretty much everything I've done (which isn't much, yet) is here at CMMods -

Some dirt and weathering was added to the final version of the tricolor posted above. I didn't go too overboard with it, but it's there. I'm about done with the ambush version, but the stinkin' Thoma-screen Schürzen I was planning as an option are giving me problems. The pink transparencies seem to behave a little differently in CMBB than they did in CMBO. The mesh skirts in CMBO didn't result in a "see-through" tank behind the skirt, which has been happening to me in my efforts with the same in CMBB. -

Very nice... hey, while we're making requests... do you by any chance happen to know where I can download the base art for that one? The plain yellow? I want to try an ambush scheme on it, but I can't find the base art anywhere. -
It has either the L/48 or the L/70 depending on the production date and production facility.

I've edited the file at CMMODs to include the "no turret number" option. If anyone has already downloaded it and are on a slow dialup and don't want to re-download to get the two changed bmp's as an option, shoot me an email and I'll email them to you. If you don't mind the turret numbers, no need to redownload as nothing else was changed. -

Oops... meant to include that in there as well- the bmp's without tactical numbers. I knew there was something I was missing. I'll try to edit it when I get home tonight. [ January 20, 2004, 03:30 PM: Message edited by: Dressler ] -

It was kind of a headache to get it to line up . I chose to combine a 12th SS scheme and one from the 20th PD that I had color plates of to kind of make a generic hasty 3-color scheme. Glad you like it! -
This is one is posted now in the CMBB section at CMMOD's. It's fully compatible with CMAK too, though.
