  1. I routinely pick one hex on the line where I send all my airfleets to pound. Once that hex has been softened up, my infantry army attacks the hex. Usually what I end up with is a French/Soviet army at 2-3 strength or completely obliterated. Thats when I send my armor in. The armor fans out behind enemy lines to destroy air fleets and hqs. I rarely use my armor to engage infantry armies. I surround them with the armor and use my infantry to clean up the mess. Additionally, I find when fighting the Russians, that if i send in infantry corps (which have additional movement points) with the armor, the kinda act like motorized infantry and I can protect the flanks of my armored penetration. I think perhaps (and I dont know what the ramifications might be) it would be interesting to change some rules for the armor...such as armor has 5 movement points. Let it move three, attack and then move the remainder. Or it can move 1 then 4, etc. This may be what Dpstafford was thinking along the line of.
  2. I need South America so I can escape after the war has gone poorly for the Axis.
  3. CvM, Norse and Viking- No offencse, but I think your love of Finland (either do to heritage, admiration or nationality) is blinding you to the realities of history and the game. Historically and in a game focusing on a STRATEGIC scale, the Finns were not as important as other countries. I would agree that their army was stronger than the Bulgarian/Romanian/Hungarian troops and should be reflected as such. I would even argue that in historical/random play in SC that a Russo-Finnish winter war should be included...simply a message indicating as such with perhaps a tug of war over a few hexes. However, to give the Finns an HQ and more troops is to create a powerhouse that never was. The Finns held their own against the Russians, sometimes against overwhelming odds. However to see the Finns marching over the Russian steps is a bit fantastic. There is no doubting the genius of Mannerheim or steely resolve of the Finnish fighting troops. However to adequately reflect this in the game, it would be better to increase entrenchment level of existing troops and experience to outweigh the crushing onslaught of the Red hordes. And remember by March of 1940 even Mannerheim acknowledged the Finns could not hold out any longer and sued for peace. If you want a game that gives you the abilities to do this, I would recommend you look at Hearts of Iron by Paradox. This would allow you to do what I think you are after. As for SC, this is really not a viable option for the above reasons.
  4. Send German troops over there. Thats what happened historically. That should hold the fort.
  5. Hubert- Cheers to you for your quick response. It is an excellent compliment to you and all others assisting in this game that not only do you respond to suggestions but also implement them in your product. Like anything that you create in life, there is always hesitance to tweak it at the direction of others (the "my baby" syndrome). However, you have gone above and beyond the call of duty responding to compliments/complaints/questions. I think its a tribute to you that so many people post on this board not only providing encouragement but suggestions in making this game the best it can be. I think that is the greatest compliment that we, the customer, can pay you. For it shows we care about this also! Thanks again!
  6. Trapped in Ireland!!! Now you know how the British occupation forces in the North feel!!!! LOL
  7. Norse- Your link doesnt work. Could you email? Thanks!
  8. I am trying to find out were the new campaign downloads are being hosted. I cant find them on Otto's site. If someone either knows a site or can email me Battle of Bulge and Operation Uranus, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
  9. Carl- No prob, thanks for sending me your scenario. And of course I will play it (to the disgust of my Greek friends!!! lol). I give you feed back after i finish the scenario. Willard
  10. Sorry Carl, but that is totally unrealistic. I live in Greece and the Greeks absolutely HATE the Turks. No doubt about it. IF in your scenario, the Italians invaded Greece, there is no way in hell that the Greeks would allow the Turks into help. You have to remember, Greek independence from Turkey occured in 1821, after some 400 years of Turkish occupation. As recently as the 1920s, the Greeks and Turks were fighting for land up north by the Dardanelles, as the Greeks tried to take back land from Turkey. Remember when Attaturk took power, the Turks continued their "ethnic cleansing" (that began against the Kurds and the Armenians) against the Greeks. Thats not to say that the Greeks didnt commit atrocities also, however I hardly think they would take their help against the Italians. If anything the Greeks would probably agree to a cease fire with the Italians and fight the Turks with the Italians!!!!
  11. The answer is you need to increase USA MPP from 180 to a higher number. It is way to small a number given the industrial might of the US. That will balance out any German advantage. The US MPP should start at 180 at the beginning of DEC 1941. It should gradually increase overtime so that by 1944 it is upto 400 MPP. This is a more realistic US impact on the WTO. It started small, but by the end it was unstoppable.
  12. Ive read alot of posts recently about player created scenarios, such as BoB and Uranus. I cant find out how to get them though. Are the being posted on another hosted site? Or are they just being emailed? If someone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Willard
  13. Holze- Outstanding job. Those graphics are absolutely stunning. Please Hubert take note (no disrespect to your work of course) and incorporate this into SC!!!! I cannot wait to download the mod! Keep us updated for download. Thanks Holze, Willard
  14. Guys, just some thoughts on SB that have/havent be brought up. As for the cost analysis issues (I will discuss as if Allied player is bombing) involved in SB, there are several factors: Allied: $ Cost to build SB $ Cost to build Fighters $ Cost in R&D for SB $ Cost in R&D for Fighters $ Cost in replacements for SB $ Cost in replacements for Fighters The "cost" of not spending this money elsewhere (i.e. spend it on other research or units) Axis: $ Cost to build Fighters $ Cost to build Corps/Naval units to protect cities/ports/industrial areas $ Cost in R&D for Fighters $ Cost in R&D for AA guns $ Cost in replacements for Fighters $ Cost in replacements for Corps/Naval units The "cost" of not being able to spend this money on the Eastern Front!!! From a strategic sense, even if the Allies spend more MPP than the Axis lose, it is worth it for the Allied player. Because the point isnt to defeat the Axis with SB alone. The point is to draw enough Axis resources away from the Eastern front. Essentially the air war in the West was kept up to provide positive propaganda for the Allies and force the Axis to deploy much need assets (i.e. on the Eastern Front) in the west. Additionally, a good Allied player will save $$ to build up the invasion forces, but the air war is needed to create that "second front" in the west. Remember, over time (which the Axis player doesnt have the luxary of wasting) the culmulative effect of drawing resources away from the Axis' Eastern front can be devastating. Also, for those who commented on the losses in the Western Europe airwar, that is what was really like. USAF and Bomber Command took staggering losses there, because they were going up daily against the strength of the Axis. If you want a relatively inexpensive airwar, the Allies should get Sicilly and start pounding north and east (oil fields!--Ploesti). That is how it happened in reality.
  15. I think the problem stems from the term "random." My understanding is that its not a random entry ala "pull a number out of a hat." "Random" in this case means that entry may or may not occur, based upon actual historical dates/events. In this case, under "random entry" rules, your play and your results should determine if/when US enters. Historically, the U.S. enters the war in Dec 1941 vs the Germans because the Germans declared war first. I think as the German player (if events in your game havent caused the US to declare prior) should have the option to declare war in Dec 1941---and this already exists on the war map screen. However, if events in your game have not precipitated entry of the US in the war, then it should not happen automatically. That way your play and your results will affect a US decision to enter. IF the Germans did not declare war on the US in Dec 1941, the Americans may not have entered until 1942 or 1943- when events such as Stalingrad or Kursk may have "triggered" a US war entry. I mean for all we know, if the US doesnt get Pearl Harbored, maybe they dont enter at all????
  16. Madmatt- Thanks for the prompt response. I was just curious, because we have problems with items going "missing" in the APO. I am sure there is just a delay due to the routing. I would like to echo DaveM's sentiments and tell you guys are doing a great job and keep up the good work. Thanks!
  17. Norse- Yeah I know you cant use with demo...arrgghhh. Still frustrated, lol. Anyway do you have a site with all your scenarios on it??? I saw references to BoB, but couldnt find it anywhere. I am relatively new to this site, so I have spent alot of time reading up on past topics. thanks for help. Willard
  18. Quick question for those who received there SC. I pre-ordered back in July and received a confirmation email. I also saw the charge on my CC. However I have yet to receive anything. I am at a APO---Army Post Office address so I think that maybe part of the delay. However did any of you receive an email saying your purchase had been shipped? I have not and wonder if I have even been shipped??? Thanks in advance for the responses!
  19. Norse- I am still waiting my copy of the game...arghhhhh. But please send me a copy so i can play! Thanks, Willard rkelty@attglobal.net
  20. Yes, exactly right. I had problems with partisans in Yugo with the demo. Once I stationed a corps in Belgrade and one in the mountains where the partisans spring up, the problem went away. I would assumee (???) that the same concept would work in full length version.
