  1. I think you were just unlucky. ( War is hell isn't it? ) In CMBO, I don't believe there are any parameters that affect MG jam frequency or duration. I could be mistaken but I believe there is just a base chance the MG will jam. In CMBB, there are some factors that affect MG jamming such as air temperate.
  2. Your opponent does score victory points against you for eliminated crews, although I've never been able to find out exactly how much. Yes, this has been debated often in the past. Most folks seem to agree that hiding or exiting crews off the map is a pretty good idea. Anything that keeps them out of harms way. However, a lot of other players will use crews for safe duties such as spotting or holding secured victory locations. Finally, there are also some players who feel crews can continue to be used in the fighting. A way to draw enemy fire, spring ambushes, etc. I'm not sure there's any "right or wrong" just a matter of personal preference. Personally, I tend to hide or exit my crews, although occasionally I will use them for spotting.
  3. You can play either Scenarios or Operations. Scenarios represent a single battle. Operations are, essentially, a string of several sequential battles in a row with such things as resupply and vehicle recovery. Both scenarios and operations are available on the CD and for download at various CM sites. There is not really any supported method to play an entire campaign that starts you at Normandy and ends in Berlin. Some folks have come up with some custom rules and run custom mulitplayer campaigns that allow you get the feel of a campaign, but it's not something you'll find directly supported in CM itself.
  4. I agree with you there, redwolf. Sometimes there are issues that just need to be tweaked or fixed in the game. However, while I'm playing (and waiting for the next patch or release), I do try to tell myself that these "annoyances" are just real life screws up and try to imagine some bone-heaed decision by an officer or grunt. In this case, realistic or not, I'd imagine that some pig-headed officer ran up behind the mortar crew screaming "Soldier what the $@%^! are you firing at??!! Cease fire immediately!". Realistic or not, it helps to keep my blood pressure down and allows me to enjoy the game more, and get angry at the game less.
  5. VERY nice work!!! Those babies will definitely be cruising my battlefields. Thanks for your time and effort.
  6. You can try this link as well - CMHQ This has both the Magua Normandy Trees ( not sure if they are the subdued ones) as well as his original building mods. The only catch is that these files are configured for CMMOS. However, if you don't use CMMOS, you can still rename the bmp files to use directly.
  7. Awesome stuff!!! I'm looking forward to desert warfare even more than before. Great job BFC!
  8. Folks, My advice is to ignore this poster and his post. Looks to be a repeat post of a person who has been banned from this forum many, many times. My apologies to "Phaser on Tickle" if I'm incorrect. However, if I'm not... "Hi Mom!!!"
  9. Welcome to CM, Wepps. Chances are pretty high that you're going to be addicted to the CM games for quite some time. They're immersive and incredibly fun. CMBO is an incredible game and the best war game ( actually the best game of any kind ) I've ever played. The replayability is amazing. Be sure to check out CMBB as well. You won't regret it. As great as CMBO is, CMBB is even better. Have fun.
  10. Yep, there's nothing worse in CM than merrily watching your turn go according to plan when suddenly, without warning... your stomach drops, your mouth opens, and your shoulders slump as you watch your precious AFV burst into flames from some unseen AT unit. Strangely enough, that's one of the things makes the CM games so much darn fun.
  11. Hey Jordan! As I was reading I recognized the last name and was wondering if the writer was related to you. Very cool indeed that your wife could give BFC some more coverage. Oh, btw - you may not remember me but we played a CMBO PBEM game ( or two??) many, many months ago. I believe you had just started PBEM'ing. Anyway, it's great your wife could get a plug in for CMBB.
  12. Join the club. However, there are countless numbers of very crafty and clever human opponents that regularly kick my rear end all over the battlefield. Be wary of judging your CM tactical skills and experiences based soley on playing the computer as an opponent. You'll find that what works consistently against the TacAI, will not always work against a human opponent. Especially an experienced one. 13. MikeT, I believe the middle Panther picture is Fernanado's early Tri color Panther VA mod. I have it with all the options. Let me know if you want me to send it to you and in what format. I have it in CMMOS form but it's not in the new format. Also, let me know if there are any others you feel you want but are missing, I'm hording quite a few CMBO mods.
  14. Most multiplayer games are either scenarios or QBs. The QB ME is very common if you strike up a ladder game. But attack/defend battles are played quite often as well. Assaults and probes seem to be very rare in my experience. It really boils down to what you and you opponent want to play and agree on. Once you start getting some regular multiplayer buddies, you tend to start playing a variety of different battle types and operations since the QB ME with default settings starts to get a little stale rather quickly.
  15. Hi Bridger, I'm glad you're enjoying the game and doing well. However, be sure to take note of the comment being posted. Defending against the A.I. is by far the easiest task in CMBO. Definitely try attacking against the A.I., it should give you a more challenging experience. Be sure you have full FOW turned on. Partial or no FOW really is only useful for just learning the basics of the game. Turn detailed armor hits off. It makes it more difficult ( realistic ) to tell the correct status of enemy AFVs. You can also give the computer various bonuses at teh beginning of the game that will beef up the level of difficuly a bit. Finally, when you've decided thet A.I. is just no longer a formidable foe, you have two more options - 1) Play against a human opponent. For a real humbling experience, play against an experienced opponent. 2) Play against the A.I. using Franko's True Combat Rules. Have fun.
  16. I would definitely have to agree with you on this one. I recently finished a 40 turn PBEM battle in which I was defending. All flags were under my control during the course of the entire battle. On the final scheduled turn (40) the flags were still under my control and were not at all threatened. However, that battle was still extended and lasted an additional 4 turns.
  17. Hmmm...that doesn't seem right does it? I guess I could understand no casualties, but their status didn't even change to *alerted* or *cautious* while running through fire? Those are some battle-hardened green troops you've got there.
  18. I find it hard to believe a person would be at a disadvantage by not using gridded terrain. I would guess it's a matter of personal preference. Some folks are more comfortable using grids and find it easier to judge elevations. Others (like myself) prefer to use the more natural look and find the grids very distracting. I would guess more people use non-gridded grass than gridded but I don't know.

  20. I agree with Andrew completely. I think there should be two terms to descibe what is being discussed. "Gamey play" and "ahistorical play" I freely admit that I'm an ahistorical player because, in addition to sceanrios and random parameters, I do still enjoy QBs and purchasing my forces. I'm an ahistorical player simply because I don't have enough historical knowledge to know if my force selection is realistic or not for a given time period. However, I don't feel I'm a gamey player. I try my best to select a fairly realistic force mix and use relatively realistic tactics during my battles. I hope my opponents do the same. Anything else detracts from the game's immersive enjoyment in my opinion. Setting an assault boat on a hill to draw fire might work well, but it just wouldn't be fun because it's so unrealistic. Gamey play is purposely using the game's "limitatons or weaknesses" to create a totally unrealistic situation for the purpose of gaining an advantage over your opponent. Ahistorical play is (knowingly or unknowingly) using force mixes and tactics that were not specifically used by the respective nations in WWII combat. My three cents.
  21. Just my personal opinion... but I would consider the "Marco Bergman Sherman Pack" a must have CMBO mod. You should be able to find it on Combat Mission HQ.
  22. One suggestion... Go into the Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks forum. One the the first few topics in this forum is called "CMBO/CMBB Anthology of useful posts". Open up this thread and start reading some of the links. It's absolutely filled with valuable information and advice on how to improve your CM game. If you still have some questions about topics that aren't coverred in that post, feel free to ask around on this forum. There's lots of folks around willing to help you with specific questions or problems.
  23. Never mind folks, I found it. It was at CMHQ and the file is Mike8g_JgdPzIV_ambush_CMMOS. For some reason I thought it was done by Gordon Molek. Move along nothing to see here...
