  1. Thanks again to Kingfish, the scenario designers, and everyone else for their efforts in running RoW V. Just curious...how can a replacement player who only played two scenarios in the entire tourney get third place?? Before everyone tar and feathers me, I have nothing but the utmost respect and appreciation for Victor Charlie for stepping up and helping us to get the finalist round completed. He was a very worthy and gracious opponent. So nothing at all against VC, I'm just wondering how a last minute replacement player can get third place in the entire tournament.
  2. Although I'm disappointed it had to come to this...I agree that it's the best decision. I've emailed you my most recent turn in LfB.
  3. Thanks for the positive comments, Jason. Moltke Bridge was one of the most enjoyable scenarios I've played in a while. Undoubtedly my positive experience was due to the fact that, for the most part, I was able to execute my plan just as I had originally envisioned it. That's something that rarely happens. Whether it was a conscious decision or not, I agree that the key to my success was taking my time. I felt the only plan that had any chance of succeeding was to - 1) Expose as many enemy positions as possible while taking minimal casualities. 2) Drop loads of ovewhelmeing HE on uncovered enemy positions. 3) Cross the bridge under the cover of smoke *after* deadly front line enemy units had been knocked out or pinned/panicked. This all took time and the bulk of my forces sat idly waiting "for their time"...but in the end it paid off.
  4. Thanks a lot John_d I had the idea of doing that with my own home town about a year ago. Something came up, I got busy and I promptly forgot about it. ...Until now. I guess I know what I'll be doing for the next several nights. (Hunched over the computer calling out to wife) "Dear, come here, does this look like main street downtown or should the incline be more gradual? Does the library look too close to the Post Office?"
  5. Is there any chance that the B&T Rumblings of War V - Finalist page could be updated with game status? This is the page I'm referring to - RoW V finalists I'd be interested to know how many more finalist games were waiting on. Thanks.
  6. Yes, I know you had that serious accident. My apologies if you're still on the mend and your accident is still preventing you from getting to your turns. I assumed you were "back on your feet" so to speak from some of the emails we've exchanged. I may have misunderstood. If so, my sincerest apologies.
  7. Londoner and I are in the same finalist group, we finished our game together what seemed a lifetime ago. LfB is my only remaining game... Unfortunately we still have about 20-25 turns to go. The best I can manage is a turn a day, which is what I've pretty much maintained throughout the entire tournament. Londoner, I bet I can guess who your TV opponent is...
  8. It takes two to Tango. It makes absolutely no difference how quickly one person may play if the other player is slow or disappears for extended periods of time. Quite frankly, I'm fed up with the fact that I'm still playing these games. [ November 14, 2005, 04:50 PM: Message edited by: Green Hornet ]
  9. About 8 turns to go on Tiger Valley. I'm not sure I see Loaded for Bear finishing up before Christmas at its current rate. The biggest problem I'm now facing is that we are past the original deadline and now I'm having troubles finding time to get my turns out. I knew for a long time that my work schedule was going to change in late October ( giving me less time for turns ) but I figured we'd be done by that time. Guess not.
  10. 18 turns left to go on Tiger Valley. 27 turns to go on Loaded for Bear. Not looking too good....
  11. Any news on an extension to the deadline for this tourney? I believe the original deadline is only a week away and there's no way the games I'm in are going to be finished. Although, I will say the pace has picked up nicely in Tiger Valley!
  12. Falco, I think the biggest reason that these threads get locked up and/or shot to pieces by other forum members is simply because you have said NOTHING in this post that hasn't already been said and addressed a hundred times in many other threads. Please take the time to read some of the other posts and some of BFC's responses. The comment about CM:SF going after the FPS teenage crowd has been made and answered so many times its simply staggering. [ October 12, 2005, 10:47 PM: Message edited by: Green Hornet ]
  13. Not to mention I would guess that BFC devoting resources to another patch of CMAK would probably delay the WWII release of CMx2. I think BFC has closed the books on the first generation of CM.
  14. Section 1 update- Londoner and I are finished with St. Nazaire. I'm not even half way through my other two games. I send turns out daily. I haven't heard from either of my other two opponents in almost two weeks.
  15. Update from section 1 - My game with Londoner should be finishing up within a week or so (St. Nazaire). My other two games, at their current turn rates, have absolutely no chance of being completed on time.
  16. So sorry to hear about your accident. I was wondering where your next turn was... I guess a screwdriver to the eye and a couple of broken fingers is a pretty decent excuse. Best of luck with that eye healing up 100%.
  17. Section 1 Update - I've sent my setups for Tiger Valley and St. Nazaire to my opponents Jon L and Londoner (repsectively). So far I've heard nothing back from either. I'm still waiting on my opponent Panzertwat to send me the setup for "Loaded for Bear". ...so, I'm in a holding pattern at the moment.
  18. I never expected to advance to the RoW finals but I'm looking forward to more fun. Thanks again to KingFish and all for making this tourney happen. It's been great fun so far.
  19. I'm not convinced the variable ending feature has anything to do with flag possession at any point in the battles. Personally, I'm convinced a random number of turns is simply stuck on the end and you get what you get. Try playing a 20+ turn attack/defend QB as a test. As attacker, you can let all your units remain stationary for 20 turns, not a single shot will be fired and no flags ever change hands yet the game will still give you extended turns. I just tried it (again) and my 20+ QB test lasted 22 turns. Like I said, I'm convinced it's completely random.
  20. I've completed all 5 scenarios. I've submitted all 5 AARs. Of course, now what am I going to do until June????
  21. Ahhhhh...that did the trick. Thanks Vadr.
  22. GreenAsJade - I can't open the file you sent me. I'm guessing it has something to do with PBEM helper ( which I don't use ) but it's not a regular PBEM txt file. Any advice or help appreciated. Thanks. Alkiviadis - I'll be working on the Moltke Bridge setup tonight. The rest of my games are underway and running smoothly.
  23. I signed up a few days ago but just realized I didn't receive a confirmation email. Just checking to see if I'm in or not. Thanks.
  24. Okay, if anyone is interested I did a quick test: I used 100 Panzer IVH's crossing through a solid line of AT mines placed end to end. I had a single row of continuous AT mines placed in open terrain and made sure there were no gaps between the AT mine "units". I ordered the Panzers to hunt straight through the line of AT mines. Results- Tanks Knocked out - 16 Tanks Immobilized - 28 Tanks OK (safely passed through mines) - 56 I realize the sample is fairly low, but AT mines only detonating 44% of the time seems a bit low to me. This may be a realistic number, but I honestly didn't realize AT mines were such a crapshoot.
  25. I did a search but couldn't really find anything. Does anyone know the approximate detonation success rate of AT mines? (Yes, I'll probably do a test later today) For some silly reason I thought the detonation rate was close to 100%. I don't mean that I expect to KO a tank 100% of the time, but I thought if a tracked vehicle drove across an AT minefield, it would almost ALWAYS detonate. I've had 2 cases in two separate games where my opponent has driven a tank straight through an AT minefield and nothing happens. These are not daisy-chain mines but "normal AT mines. Perhaps my assumptions are wrong and/or I'm just really unlucky. A but frustrating when you happen to guess correctly in the mine placement, gloat while you watch the enemy tank drive straight into your minefield, and then.......nothing.
