  1. ive noticed the ai hitting the low countries. it makes them tougher to beat, plus axis doesnt get their plunder. also, germany tends not to hit norway in '39. on the whole, the axis ai seems skittish about amphbious assault, although they have sealioned me. i held them at a standstill at manchester. The ai seems much better after even the gold demo though.
  2. i lost berlin in 42 because i gave two points of experience to my enemies...talk about a mistake. But i too want to know about tcp-ip. I am REALLY anxious to get that started. We need TCP-IP.
  3. I know this probably been brought up before, but will there be separate sections on the forum for SC opponent finding and tech support, like there is for CM? If this question has already been answered, just point me to the thread.
  4. I believe the siberian army is only transferred when axis units get within a certain range of moscow. historically, they were transferred when the germans got close to the capital.
  5. Ive held it the entire game. I quickly purchased a french HQ and evacuated very allied unit into france. Once usa came in i emptied her into france, and once the soviets came in, it was a moot issue; i finished the game in jan 43, default difficulty + FoW. It wasnt easy... The longer france is held, the harder it is for the axis to win. they are expending all of their resources trying to take france, not building barbarossa forces, not building a fleet to challenge britain. In my game, not one soviet city was captured. germany was unable to defend herself with the meager territories she had. [ August 03, 2002, 12:50 AM: Message edited by: dasreich ]

  7. Im 17 and lazy as hell.
  8. Axis '39 is my third. But first I want to do Axis/Allied '44. I want to see just how long I last as Axis and how quick I can finish it as Allies.
  9. I think in my next game I will set up the Roman Empire.
  10. Unfortunately, I THINK thats all there is. But, one remedy is to have different people control different countries. Such as, one player moves german units and does tech then someone else sits down and does Italy. Of course, the German player would be the senior. I know its a poor substitute for the game actually having separate players on the same team, but unfortunately thats all I think we are going to get. 11. Best use is flanking assaults and pincering invading forces. Taking resources and hitting airfleets (when possible) are also good uses for armor. The worst is to leave them on partisan duty, or gaurding cities and resources. Thats what corps are for.
  12. I believe Battlefront wants to keep that confidential, but just look at the forum. Im sure many, many units have already been pre-ordered. (Mine too)
  13. Earlier on we had a problem with someone extending play. It set back the game a couple of weeks to work out the security issues. Its only 25$, and well worth it!
  14. I think it might be too cumbersome to place good 'ol Wien on the map. Berlin and Prague are already closely situated. Plus, what value does it have to either war effort (more so than Prague or Berlin, I mean)
  15. Personally I feel it deserved higher, but 7.2 from gamespot is not bad. Starcraft got 9.1 and many of the absolute best games dont get over that. A 7 from them is like an 8 from most others. I do, however, agree partly about the AI. At higher difficulties the AI is more challenging than Gamespot gives it credit for. But I have noticed that it tends to shy away from amphibious assaults. Everyones entitled to their opinion.
  16. Wow! Talk about cut-throat... SC may not have flashy graphics or great sound FX, but its the fun factor that counts in a grand strategy game. SC scores a 10/10 in that department!
  17. Good points, mike But say the german economy had been shifted to total war much earlier. i think they would eventually have outproduced the brits in every field. not to mention the brits were nearly beaten by constant attack on military targets. the only reason the RAF stayed alive was because hitler decided attacking cities was wiser than RAF bases. Had the economy shift happened at the beginning of the war, and had germany gone with utterly destroying the RAF bases, sealion would have indeed been possible and might very well have succeded by, perhaps, 1942.
  18. Although normally i go for 10 or so airfleets to knock out britain, one game, on the first turn, i loaded as many units as possible into transports and sailed for England. I actually took london before paris. But i had to wait for backup from continental europe before going after manchester. Difficulty at default.
  19. At first this was a problem for me too. Then I realized it was the HQ's work. The Germans start out with two relatively good HQ's. The Allies start out with one mediocre Brit in England. To make matters worse, to get another Allied HQ, preferably French for French troops, you have to disband many units. Even then, French HQ's arent that good. So if the Germans are kicking your butt (as they do to me many times) its because of their support from decent HQ's.
  20. Actually, playing Allies is more challenging too. After awhile in the BETA demo, Germany NEVER breached my lines in France unless I wanted them too. The last couple games, one on beginner and one on expert, They broke my lines on beginner before it ended, and took Paris in November on hard. Axis is more aggressive and smarter at being aggressive. They havent invaded UK yet, but the AI in general is much improved.

  22. SuperTed, after looking at that screenshot, I finally realized why stacking isnt allowed...
  23. I have played both sides each a few times with varying degrees of difficulty: and I am impressed. By far the biggest improvement is the AI. Instead of leaving their HQ and airfleets on the coast of Britain (where I can easily hit them) they left them a little inland, just outside of my range of sight (and fight). They wacked my navy as it engaged the royal navy and i lost close to 2000 mpps worth of units in one turn. Add to that, the French didnt let me destroy their lines like i used to. I have not encountered any of the bugs that have been complained about as of yet, and im glad. The gameplay feels smoother, and due to the better AI, it requires more strategy to win. (or as Allies, stay alive) I cant wait for the full 7 years, and considering how improved the gold demo is, its gonna be a blast. Hubert, your a genius.
