  1. I have played both sides each a few times with varying degrees of difficulty: and I am impressed. By far the biggest improvement is the AI. Instead of leaving their HQ and airfleets on the coast of Britain (where I can easily hit them) they left them a little inland, just outside of my range of sight (and fight). They wacked my navy as it engaged the royal navy and i lost close to 2000 mpps worth of units in one turn. Add to that, the French didnt let me destroy their lines like i used to. I have not encountered any of the bugs that have been complained about as of yet, and im glad. The gameplay feels smoother, and due to the better AI, it requires more strategy to win. (or as Allies, stay alive) I cant wait for the full 7 years, and considering how improved the gold demo is, its gonna be a blast. Hubert, your a genius.
  2. Finally, the incredibly long wait to preorder is over...on to the incredibly long wait for delivery...sigh.
  3. The first campaign I want to make is 1942 - when the invasion of Italy by Allied Forces occurred. Also, I think an Axis Russia and an Allied Italy would be interesting...if only we were allowed to do so. [ July 14, 2002, 10:49 PM: Message edited by: dasreich ]
  4. Congrats, Hubert. A 9/10 is good for ANY game developer, but for a first timer...damn. If SC was getting your feet wet, then SC2 will blow everthing else away. Im sure many other game reviewers will have similar scores for SC. Keep up the good work!
  5. From Bill Macon: Bill, that made my day (just watched Apocalypse Now)
  6. I know that the gold demo will be tweaked from the beta demo, but will it be a different scenario from Fall Gelb?
  7. I think the map should be expanded north and south. Maybe west to include more of the east coast of the usa. It seems rather hurried the way the usa is presented in game.
  8. I dont know about anyone else on the forum, but the Axis tries its best to take over France, but pretty much stops there. It goes after yugo, but not greece. It makes no moves in the med, and it NEVER invades the UK. I once emptied the UK of troops after France fell, and only air raids, which surely would have revealed weakness on my part, were made by the Germans. It also seems to neglect N Africa entirely. I was wondering if anyone else had these problems, and if they will be fixed in the release version.
  9. Wow, I dint think it was possible to take out the Soviets in the demo. I thought England was the limit in terms of major powers. Congrats Camicie Nere
  10. On the general topic of 1944, in the scenario for full SC that starts there (if theres one) will the Normandy fortifications be there? How about the Gustav Line in Italy? Or the Siegfried Line?
  11. While A&A is somewhat similar to SC, the biggest difference is I am able to play SC from start to finish without catastrophic crashing.
  12. While I don't agree the demo is enough, I have taken Britain. By purchasing almost nothing besides air fleets, I invaded Britain in december by temporarily blocking off the English channel with my navy and rushing HQ's and tanks and Armies over. I took Manchester and ended the game in March. In fact, Spain JOINED me when I captures London. [ July 02, 2002, 11:04 PM: Message edited by: dasreich ]
  13. As the Allies, I have been hardpressed to keep France from falling. Is there a way to keep France alive and perhaps even counterattack into Germany? In any case, what kind of Allied strategy works best in Fall Gelb?
  14. Im not sure, but didnt the soviets start out the war using their tanks in the clunky spread-out pattern that the Allies used during the early phases of the war in the west in 1940? If this is so, their tank groups should be way less effective at the outset of war between Germany and Russia.
  15. The key to any axis victory is speed. Getting lots of MPP's fast at the expense of the allies is a must. Hitting unimportant targets or waiting for the "right time" to attack will let attrition set in. Thats what happened to the Axis in real life. I try to take the low countries first turn and France by the third turn. If I dont succeed in a quick knock-out of mainland europe, England usually starts reinforcing France, which means I have to spend more MPP's just to dominate western europe. Im geussing that in the real game, if the axis havent taken out England and/or Russia, or come close to it by the time the USA comes in, then they will be in serious trouble, especially against a human. The Allies always had the production and manpower advantage over the axis. It was critical for the axis to exploit their unpreparedness for war. When they failed, they went on the defense and stayed there.
  16. I completely agree. I would like to know more about the editor other than thats its powerful. I love editing in not just CM, but many other RTS, civilization, and strategy games. A FAQ on the editor would be nice.
  17. I have used sharpshooters to to go behind enemy forces (especially against an attacker) and take out their arty spotters or big guns (like howitzers or infantry guns) they have in the back for fire support. They are worth the points, especially if you have almost used them up and have about twenty points to spare
  18. I agree that many lame games cost little, but the demo to SC alone is better than most of them. Seeing as that I am a teenager and therefore have little money, the less a game costs the better for me. And $25 is quite a steal for this one!
  19. I guess my sight is going Instead supplement FJ and VG platoons for two motorized platoons. Also the mortars will have to go to be replaced with 75mm artillery. Then throw in an MG42 LMG. That combination is almost as effective, using 691 points (All Veteran)
  20. -- All Veteran -- 1 X 150mm Infantry Gun 1 X Hetzer 1 X Fallschirmjager platoon 1 X Volksgrebadier SMG platoon 1 X PSW 240/3 Heavy Armored Car 1 X 81mm mortatr artillery spotter Although some question the use of such a gun on a small map, when used in an ambush, it can have devastating effects. I once sent almost an entire company of Allied riflemen off of the map with a well placed shot. Granted, it becomes a target real quickly. The hetzer, with its sloped armor and 75mm gun, can take out most allied vehicles and take a few hits. The FJ platoon has an assortment of different guns and a panzerschreck attached to it. The VG SMG platoon is used well at a close range ambush. The armored car serves as infantry support, and the mortars fire relatively quicl;y and can be used to hamper advancing troops (I have used this combination successfully against human and computer opponents)
  21. For me, FT troops have done little but waste my points. The only success with FT I have had is with the Hetzter Flammpanzer. With sloped armor and a an MG, it is capable of surviving on the front line. I once got 40 Infantry kills with it.
  22. This may have already been asked, but in the editor, can i change the sides of the major players? For example, can Russia be Allied with Germany while Italy goes allied? Also, would there be any way whatsoever to extend gameplay beyond 1946?
