  1. Go Sergei Go! Be sure to reserve enough vanikka and vihreää viheltäjää by your PC for the upcoming struggle
  2. Same as others. Every new day is a learning adventure =)
  3. I have an ancient 1Gig AMD and I'm quite happy about it. CMBO runs nicely as does CMBB. No whining here. Graphics is one thing, realism and playability is other. I somewhat despise this have-to-have-newest-tech-PC-on-my-desk kinda talk, it's simply not smart to feed hardware manufacturers and software companies with that attitude. I'm affraid that somewhere on the line, the originality and playability will decrease and the players are the ones to suffer. But hey, if you have the dough to burn, make yourself and the local HW store happy.
  4. I also tested the Stuka against different soviet armor. Early T-34 with the cast turret was the only one getting KOt. Also Sherman took some damage. But JS and other heavier stuff didn't really give a crap. I also had too high expectations on the 37mm guns and the special ammo (cant remember what the metal was). In the future I'm going to stick to the dool ol' bomber versions if any. Aircrafts are somewhat useless in CMBB when compaired to the price but theyre quite fun when they succeed =)
  5. I have played lots of games where infantry tries to stop tanks using handgrenades and molotovs (hey, in CMBB we finns dont have much more else to work with!). Effective range for handgrenades is less than 35 m. molotovs a bit more but the accuracy is the problem when closing 40m. Early Pzfausts are also almost useless. HQs seem to be better when attacking tanks. It´s desperate situation where one tries to attack having only infantry, and only place you can go is past KV-1 on a open plain... Makes me just wonder how they did it for real???
  6. The new version of my gametype select pictures mod is up-loaded to the WarfareHQ. http://www.warfarehq.com/Mods/CM/cmbb_mods.shtml#var Check it out, it fits in quite nicely I think...
  7. I did a revised version of the mod (with some new pictures on it  ). Scipio should upload it soon. Better? [ January 27, 2003, 08:35 AM: Message edited by: BaD JoKe ]
  8. CMBB originals had a one guy with the radio in "e-mail". I´m kinda using that as a basis. But I´ll concider that
  9. Hi! I have scraped together a small mod witch might be of interest. I have replaced the original (somewhat boring)CMBB game type selection pictures with historical greyscales. Hope U like 'em. Check it at http://www.warfarehq.com/Mods/CM/cmbb_mods.shtml#var [ January 30, 2003, 11:02 AM: Message edited by: BaD JoKe ]
  10. Anyone interested in finnish tanks and AFWs with finnish swastikas? All you finnish maniacs let me know
  11. When voodoo does not help and prayers fail, turning the PC upside down and mimicking a bat is not succesfull, degrade Yourself and upgrade the display adapter drivers. It usually works... Downloaded the newest set from www.ati.com and bug disappeared. I was reluctant to get it bacause downloading 20M set of drivers with ISDN is not in the top end of my "fun things to do" list Thanks
  12. win98, directX8.x, no tweakers I think this is completely display adapter based problem
  13. Hi! I'm having a bit of graphic bug in my CMBB demo. There's yellow lines and flickers in thin area between the interface (on the bottom area of the screen) and the main view. It reaches from the right side to approximately the middle. The main view or the interface are not obscured, just the yellow lines in where the interface (by interface I mean the part which has the navigation tools and unit info etc) stops and main view starts. My pc has ATI Radeon (7200) 64MB card
  14. Finland was not occupied. Period. Gained, previously finnish territory was lost and some more + huge warcompensations for Russia. Actually, Finland was the only nation who waged war against Russia and was not occupied... My opinion on russian airplanes is not admiring: they did not hit rats ass. This is revealed when compared in statistical sense (number of sorties/dropped bombs/destroyed military targets/casualities in fighting troops and civilians). I dont have any numbers to back them up right now, but I think that some another smartass will dig them up anyhow. In our series "Fun but useless facts to know": civilian population in big cities used to light fires on lake or sea ice to fake city lights and when the russian formations arrived with poorly equipped planes (navigation equipment, maps etc) and trained crews (night operations, lacking navigation training) arrived, they dropped their deadly cargo harmlesly to the sea. No reason to freak out anyone, if someone knows better just post it all here
  15. Well, that's nice Kuma. I'm so happy for U But I personally find it somehow unsettling that same firm that distributes Lula Wet Attack and Sudden Strike will distribute my nr1 waited game ever! We'll propably get it by christmas...
  16. Finns used a lot of anti-submarine nets and varying sortments of seamines in the area(plus ofcourse German mines), so the escape from the harbour or possibility for a break-in was non-existent. Leningrad was never attacked by Finns. Like Kuma mentioned, there were strict orders not to make attacks to Leningrad area. Germans (Goebbels?)tried to force Finns in negotiations to participate on the blockage of Leningrad by attacking it from the north. Mannerheim did not agree to this because he thought that it might be a "bridge too far" so to speak. Finns had reached the defensive positions they wanted from the Continuation war and did not see any reason why they should attack Lenigrad and possibly harm the also possible negotiations with Russia. They were hoping that they could make separate peace with Russia because of the German pressure in the south. I remember a story I wred from that area, where a veteran told that there were some big guns involved with a distinctive sound on them. They were used as artillery against finnish formations and villages at that area and quite effectively actually. Unfortunately I cant be of more help, because the description was in a book made on the principal of " from veterans to younger generations"
  17. It's just great to take a peek to this forum now and then and see how everything seems to get madder and madder around here as the DATE aproaches! I wonder how it's going to be when the demo is out or on 21st of september BTW I'm a little concerned about this CDV thingy (as many others are too!). I sent e-mail about the pre-order option to CDV when the interview came out and still no reply (except the auto-one).It just does'nt give a good image from the company when their neglecting customers so early on...
  18. Dan! I cant get through to Your e-mail... And have fun with those .50 cals everyone
  19. Hi! thanks for everyone who have posted in this thread and excpecially those who have sent email. Unfortunately I have no time to personally answer all mails but I'll keep posting at this thread. The .50 cal mod will propably end up in WarfareHQ (atleast there). It will be available for download real soon. Just hold on to Your helmets!
  20. In the Russian side, none of the several recorded and confirmed attacks against civilian targets have not been confirmed. In their opinion, they have allways attacked legimate, military targets. What the outstanding FACT reveiled from the records is, that the dates of the attacks match on both sides. The information and names gained in on-site interrogations match. Russian partisans or desants, what ever, often interrogated their captives on-site, executed them and delivered the information to their side of the front. I doubt that You will find any good, reliable russian information about the matter. They have completely denied that these things ever happened
  21. GOD! I tried to make a better .50 cal sound and now I'm overwhelmed by this sudden popularity When it finds a good home, I'll make sure that the info comes to all You good folks out there. And thats going to be soon I just wanted to contribute something to this CM society I have grown so fond off. sniff...
  22. Prinz Eugen know his **** Russian partisans often invaded deep behind the front, into the populated village areas. There are several records where ENTIRE villages were burned and ALL populace executed. Women and the old men, even small children... There were also other things done witch I will not post here... When the wartime archives about partisan actions opened in russia (this happened just recently), they were studied by finnish historians and civilians who lost their familymembers in these partisan raids. They found out that most of these unarmed civilian villages that were burned and "cleaned" were marked into the partisan AARs as "garrisons". It is true that sometimes, where possible, finns left 2 or 3 armed soldiers, possibly ones recovering from wounds etc. to stay behind in villages but there were no way that one would consider them as garrisons. They were just acts of simple brutality ment to break the morale of civilian populace and the partisan commander would get more decorations for marking every building burned and every civilian slaughtered as a "garrison" or "soldier". There are many books about the partisan actions published here in Finland, but I doubt that there are any translated into english or other lanquages.
  23. Actually I have 2 alternatives for .50 cal, one witch actually resembles tank MGs in Band of Brothers Carentan episode (Whee! Look at those beautifull babies pouring it away!). But because I'm just a lazy bum, I have no idea where to stuff these. Any ideas? Anyone?
  24. The mod is somewhat finished now, but ain't got a place to put it for download. Would someone of You kind sirs give a loving home to my housetrained and lonely .50 cal mod? Suomiperkele terveisin! BaD JoKe
  25. Hiya all! I have a little set of new sounds for the mighty .50 cal. I wasn't happy with the ones that came with the original game and I started to work on my own set. As there are undoubtfully more experienced people participating in this forum in matters of WWII weaponry and modding, I would like some more info on this monterous weapon from these magnificent individuals. Were there any difference in sounds between .50 cals used in tanks and .50 cals used by infantry? Thanks in advance! BaD JoKe
