CMBB Reviewed In The Banbury Citizen UK Free Paper
Durbish replied to Holien's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I just finished reading "The Boer War" by Thomas Pakenham. A good read, pick it up if you get the chance -
ello ellos. I have set aside several scenarios for members of this thread but, have yet to order the game myself. Would appreciate your saving them for me anyhow. I will, without a doubt, be getting it soon. We could of course play different scenarios than those we've set up, so dun worry about it if you get another sucker lined up Cheers.

I was dating a Japanese girl who I knew to have graduated college but was amazed at her complete ignorance to many things I would expect a person to have been introduced to wherever they went to school. It finally came out that her entire education was gender based on how to be a good wife. A 4 year degree on cooking, cleaning, home economics... I'm not knocking it, it just blew my mind.

Hey, BTS can I get my old account back?
Durbish replied to Shandorf's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I have moved and changed providers and had several crashes since the beginning... Being lame I never write login stuff down and feel guilty asking for a fix every 6 months. Anyone remember the old BTS board from when they were doing Avalon Hill stuff? Used to be able to check it monthly and stay up to date. Huzzah for BTS -

I used to play with screenshots quite a bit a found hypersnap to be extreemely useful. You used to be able to get a free version with limited capability, not sure how they have it set up now http://www.hyperionics.com/ The cool thing about hypersnap is how you can use it to take a gazillion screens at one time to sift through later.

What if WWII were _exactly_ like CMBO?
Durbish replied to Tarquelne's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Due to VRAM requirements the war would have probably gone on into the 60's at least. -
Most definitely, thanks for posting. Back to Russian TO&E's, I am confused... Trying to put all the data(myths?) I've gotten over the years together, it seems as though the Russians had a multitude of formations yet reading the above posts gives the impression of there being standardization with the TO&E's changing over time. blah (long ass sentence ). Did the Russians not employ even more variety in their infantry TO&E's than the Germans???

Confirmed use of shotguns in combat ETO & PTO
Durbish replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
A veteran I used to talk to commented lovingly of the shotgun he used in korea. His qoute "anything in the bush was mine". Poor guy apparently got his whole squad wiped out and his lower body mangled by friendly artillery... -
Another communist plot...
-
I think he targetted his artillery 10' away from his own positions cause that was as far as good LOS went, thus calling in arty on himself.
-
I'll take one over ere...

Please don't let this happen again.

You didn't say whether the carrier was succesful in going through the bocage, I didnt think they could... I am aware that certain allied tanks have this ability but it didn't think it was all allied vehicles. If your unit just backed into the bocage and became stuck, it seems like a reasonable situation to me. Trying to escape death and all... Overall however I dont think anyone was really happy with bocage in CM would expect Charles and comapany to revamp it for any return to the west. -
My best success with snipers is to put them into a good position (hidden, out of the direct action, with good LOS to choice enemy units like unbuttoned tanks hq units or support units, not too close to enemy) and let the AI handle them. It can be hard to tell from CMBO's AAR how effective any particular unit really is or was. This is especially true for snipers who rarely get confirmed kills and who often show as having zero kills in the AAR. If you sniper is pinning FO's or buttoning enemy tanks he is doing a good job towards helping your force entire to win the battle.

CMBB Tank Riders: A Dangerous Ride to the Office
Durbish replied to Terence's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Not exactly ontopic but... I used to like to use tanks to get MG units into good position quickly. However, doing this not only puts the units at great risk but it gives your enemy free intel as to your positions. I have become more and more reluctant to pay this price realizing what a force multiplier deception and stealth can be. -
