  1. I think I read that too in an older thread, but IIRC the increased targeting probability is due to your unit facing the center of the arc, if a cover arc command is given. Therefore the statistical chance of an enemy unit to be spotted earlier (and attacked) is higher than with the unit facing a different direction. But that is only what I remember. My search skills (for the mentioned thread) are not the best Regards Uwe Edit: Poor spelling - sorry [ June 25, 2003, 10:07 AM: Message edited by: Wassermann ]
  2. They all look just outstanding to me. Thanks to all you modders out there and in this case to tools4fools in particular. I really love the change of intensity in one colour at e.g. the the hull side. Can't wait Uwe
  3. I got the most detailed information on the page of the 3rd Armored Division Main info is: You can get some more info thru the links on the page, but no info about the counting of tank / vehicle kills in the US-Army of WW II. Thanks in advance Uwe
  4. GreenAsJade, I had the same problem for quite some time. Since then I only play without roofs on buildings. Light building: Brown / wooden floor Heavy building: Grey / concrete floor It doesn't look as nice, but it is definitely worth it, because you can see the difference right away. Regards Uwe
  5. Hi folks, While searching for non-German tank aces of WWII I stumbled right away across the name Lafayette Pool. His score goes up to 258 kills in ~80 days following June 44 in Normandy. I was getting 'some' information thru google. My question is, how to read this 258 kills? Wittmann with 141 kills and Carius with somting of 150-200 kills are relativly well documented. Their kills actually mean 'tanks'. With Pool I found the information that in these 258 kills are 3 Panthers and some Kübelwagen (jeeps) - but that's it on further information about the kills. What vehicles were counted in the American system as kills - obviously more than only tanks??? I was joking around with a friend about Pool being the one who drove his tank over the bike stand at the Eiffel-tower But no jokes about dead people and no offence. Can somebody enlighten me over here - please?!? Regards Uwe PS.: Had this in the general forum - but no answers over there. [ June 20, 2003, 07:05 AM: Message edited by: Wassermann ]
  6. Second for this one - a good mod for all the 8 wheels is definitely needed Regards Uwe
  7. I think the colours are perfectly fine like they are now!! The only reason for a colour change would be so that your screen at work does not stick out like a sore thumb when reading the BTS forums during working hours. But I have my doubts that a sand and azure colour scheme will change that Regards Uwe
  8. Outstanding work on the Stugs!! But we have not expected anything different Regards Uwe
  9. Beside CMBB there is only place for Il2 Sturmovik, Hearts of Iron (very rarly because it is full of bugs still) and here and there Uncommon Valor (lost its appeal after playing it for some time). I look forward to Squad Assault: Western Front of Eric Young. He has shown that he can do some good work.....and do some big crap (GIC - but that is probably mainly the fault of the publishers....hopefully). Regards Uwe
  10. Great stuff!! Now CMBB is forever - at least forever in this version. And I still want to say THANKS to BFC for a game that was already very playable in version 1.00 (Not the standard nowadays - especially when I look at my copy of Hearts of Iron....collecting dust on the shelf, because after half a year it is totally bug ridden still) Regards Uwe Edit, because I can't type straight [ June 05, 2003, 02:00 PM: Message edited by: Wassermann ]
  11. If you are just talking about the bombing of London and Berlin the situation is the following: On August 2nd Göring had added the RAF ground organisation in the area of London as viable targets for the Luftwaffe. On August 24th, the day Hitler declared that all air attacks against London had to be approved by him, the attack against the RAF ground organisation came. The firefighters in Lodon reported 76 'incidents' in the city and in the suburbs of Bethnal Green, East Ham, Stepney and Finsbury. On the night of August 25th to 26th The RAF flew an attack against Berlin. Right afterwards Hitler ordered the city of London to be a legal target for the Luftwaffe as a retribution. The attacks were targeting mainly the docks. This is AFAIK the beginning of the attacks on civilian targets between the British and the Germans. Regards Uwe
  12. I would not consider Sealion as the classical bluff. You are right, that after September 1940 it was an all out bluff, but before that time it was a considered last resort plan of the Germans. They were doing all they could in such short a time to get ready for an invasion. They were trying to put the RAF to its knees and were trying to get the transportation ready. And 'yes' again, they totally underestimated the needed effort for such a task like landing in England. The German Navy as the center of the planning noticed this first by the end of July. Steiner14, I think you are looking a little bit too much from our perspective today on the whole subject. Let me try the opposite and let me look at it from the German point of view in Summer of 1940 and be a little bit too optimistic about the German possibilities - probably not so unrealistical. The BEF had to leave all there heavy equipment in Belgium and Northern France. They returned without weapons and had to be completely reequipped. The RAF was in a desperate struggle against the Luftwaffe and came very close to a defeat. (when the Luftwaffe changed the main targets from RAF airfields to civilian targets they were supposed to keep up the pressure on the RAF - that did not work at all, because the reserves of the Luftwaffe were stretched to thin to fight to targets) At the beginning of July the tensions between the defeated (the British thought more of defected) French and Engalnd rose. On July 3rd the British took over 2 BB in British ports and were killing nearly 1300 French sailors in Mers el-Kebir. It even came to a French air raid against Gibraltar. After that there were parts of the French military that supported stronger French actions against the British and even against the Free French (mainly to get back the defected colonies). On June 16th the Germans found secret papers of the French general staff. They were detailed plans about the planned British and French bombing of the Russian oil fields at Baku and facilities at Batumi. A few days later these papers were in Moscow and giving Stalin a pretty clear sight of what to expect at that time from Chuchill. The Germans had still close trade agreements with the USSR and by then both were benefitting from it. But I know, that the British were trying to increase the distrust between Hitler and Stalin. The Germans totally underestimated the strength of the Russians in Spring of 1941. Why should they have had a more realitic view of the USSR a few months earlier? That is right. Hitler was AFAIK totally expecting a Russian attack in the east as soon as the struggle with England would suck up more German strength. Or overestimate your strength and think that you would be able to defeat the British. After September 1940 you are absolutely right again. And again: I agree with you about the German perspective. Especially after Roosevelt was reelected in November 1940 it was clear for the Germans what to expect from the forming alliance of England and the US. I still think that in Summer of 1940 the Germans hoped to bring down England on it knees and come to a diplomatic solution. But would have the planning come to a more promising outcome, they would have tryied to invade England. The noticed it from the beginning on that their last resort plan would not have worked out and therefore never reached the stage of direct preparation for an invasion. Regards Uwe
  13. Here are some more links for everybody who is interested in military music: Gridcogames Soviet Songs Russian (pay??) page Regards Uwe
  14. The first detailed plan of the OKH had the II. Army under command of the AOK 6 in the area of Cherbourg - consisting of 12., 31. and 32. Div. They were supposed to attack the area of Weymouth. The VIII. and the X. Army under command of AOK 9 in the area between Caen and Dieppe. VIII. Army consisting of 8. and 28. Div. and X. Army consisting of 30. and 6. Gebirgsjäger- (Mountain-) Div.. There target area was between Portsmouth and Brighton. And finally AOK 16 with XIII. Army (17. and 35. Div.), XXXVIII. Army (26. and 34. Div.) and VII. Army (7. und 1. Gebirgsjäger-Div.) between the Somme and Ostende, targeting the area between Margate and Hastings (mainly Hastings to Folkstone). Attack of paras was planned near Dover and Brighton. The first operational goal was to reach a line between the mouth of the Thames and Portsmouth. From there on AOK 16 was supposed to encircle London, while AOK 9 had to attack towards Swindon and Cardiff. So much for the planning. But there was never even an attempt to drive forward with the planning. Hitler still hoped for a diplomatical solution and the German Navy and Luftwaffe hoped to bring down Great Britain by an air war. The navy was already by the end of July convinced, that a successful landing could not take place before 1941. 15. This prototype, the Heinkel 280 was actually developed and flew first on April 5th 1941. The He 280 was than shown to Udet and staff of the RLM and outmanoeuvred a FW 190 on this occasion. It was equipped with 2 radial jet engines He S 8. The He S 8 was never supported by the RLM. On September 15th 1942 the programm was stopped by Milch. The RLM favored the Me 262 because the first prototype of the 262 lacked the undercarriage with the front wheel by then. Later on the 262 had to be redesigned to carry such an undercarriage. Talking of some weird decision making processes. Regards Uwe
  16. No....... Does it not stand for "Chicken Noodle Network"?? Uwe B
  17. WWII RTS is scheduled for release in spring 2004, developed by 1C Maddox from Russia and will be published by Codemasters. The game will be done with the upgraded engine of Il2 Sturmovik. Knowing that a small company like BTS can not produce these insanely impressive graphics in such short a time, I still hope to see something similar hopefully in the spring of 2005 Uwe B
  18. - Crews reentering their abandoned tanks - relative spotting of units (with general advantage of recon-units) - vehicles (dead or alive) providing cover for infantry - some kinda campign mode (Two of my friends said about CMI, that it looks quite nice and realistic, but without a campiagn mode it has no long time potential to them) - smaller ground tiles - give us more of the WYSIWYG-feeling.....I want to see the hull down position of a tank, every men should be shown in squad, show all men of gun crews AND their work) - and better graphics (take a look at WWII RTS of 1C, that will probably be a serious competitor) and more use of effects (light and shadows, like sun, muzzle blasts ......) - more neat little gimmicks (crews actually leaving their tanks thru the hatches, infantry jumping/crawling over the sides of the SdKfz 251...) - have an option to play like an RTS-game where you can pause the game at any point, give orders and have them executed again or play with the 60sec turn system (eg multiplayer) - the forementioned movie-replay function - the rooster screen (and the ability to pick each squad from this screen) And by the way: Whatever you will do...... PLEASE STAY WITH WWII Thanx and keep the outstanding work coming Uwe B
  19. It is in Quebec!!!! The mail man dropped it off right now in Montreal/Verdun Unfortunately, I have to wait until I am back in Germany next week to install and play it - but at least I can browse and read the manual . Uwe B.
  20. It was mentioned earlier in this forum, that all the doodads have no influence on the gameplay - there only reason is to improve the atmosphere.. Uwe B
  21. I think the reasons for me as a German to order directly from BFC are mainly 1) and 3). Not to forget that I ordered CMBO directly from BFC, had perfect and fast service and want to support them more than CDV......and I am from Sep. 11th to Oct. 02nd in Canada anyway I think thrashing CDV is really something we have had enough of and it is not helping us, BFC or CDV. IMHO the same problems would have happened with every other big publisher (Look at eg Jowood and "1914 - The Great War": The game is already out in Germany since the beginning of August.....and where is the rest of the world??) So, if BFC is changing their publisher for CM II the next time all the Europeans are complaining about the next publisher. Uwe B.
  22. Sorry to tell you, mbtaber, but Texas is part of Canada!! Or why do you think a Texan would check out a topic called "CMBB in Canada yet??"
  23. antawar, I hope you are right with probably Tuesday in Montreal.... Monday night is Wheel Bar Hillbilly night anyway yiiiehhaah I have time until October 1st - then I am back in the Fatherland
  24. SnarkerII wrote: Ithink the idea with the US mail box is a little bit late for CMBB..... but I am going for a really good Canadian beer now..... a nice Sleeman Cream Ale will wash away the frustration Have fun out there with CMBB
