  1. Hmmm... after a couple of weeks of play, I suspect not - not until the bargain basement, anyway. For a start, there seems to be sod all PBEM community. BTW, I know sod all about NPC. Do elucidate....?
  2. fark knows. I DL'd a copy of CotD anyway. Looks like a good operational effort. It has a function to produces OoB's for miniatures battles when there is a clash. I figure that will allow me and an opponent to play the 1809 campaign, say, in CotD and use LG for the battles.
  3. Brilliant! I did 'run program as an administrator' and it worked this time. I wonder if I'll have to do that every time or if the setting will stick *fingers crossed*. Thanks Redwolf. I'm still getting the hang of Vista - which seems to be a particularly paranoid MS product. Cheers HH
  4. Any view on the better choice of game to buy while waiting for LG: Campaigns on the Danube to AGEoD's Napoleon's Campaigns?
  5. I've got a new PC laptop (VISTA). Quickly installed CMAK and want to kick up a battle with a mate. But what do I find? I can load up the PBEM file he has sent me, but when I buy troops and hit GO, it takes me to the PBEM save screen where I update _000 to _001 and hit save. It disappears without a sound and apparently does nothing. I cannot find and _001 file on the puter at all. I've tried resetting the compatibility to XP just in case, but that has made no difference. I've set up a couple of QBs and saved PBEM files, but the do not appear either. Suggestions, good people?
  6. So is that to say that there aren't any equal good match ups but that it would be better to play mirrored games (as I've just started with t34s vs PzIII(late), which look like it'll be pistols at 200m or less ('cept on the PzIII's flanks).
  7. Mmm...the format is totally unrealistic. I'm just looking for an arcade game, if you will, that enables cavalry 'seek and destroy' tactics. Abstract but fun, if you like.
  8. Someone at Band of Brothers suggested PIII(late) vs T34. Whaddayathink?
  9. Fresh from a couple of fights pitching PIVs vs Shermans, I'm following Waleed's suggestion that the format might be more fun if it were early war (when there would be more pinging and less instant killing). What would be a good (more or less) 10 vs 10 match up for an armour only game? (or hell, for a 20 vs 20 armour only game?!)
  10. Thank you for all that information. Good point on the resupply. I was figuring that it would indeed break the defence if kept at 100%. I think I'll propose a decreasing amount... 100..80 60. Ta again.
  11. Please point me to the relevant threads, if you can. I've a Russian Btn, mid 43' about to be attacked by an opponent on a map 1200m wide and 3000m deep. Theory is I set up my btn then we fight a series of 20-or-so turn battles where we import the troops each time so it's a little like an operation but represents ongoing combat. These battles will be infantry and artillery only - presumed to be a supporting attack along the flank of a push by an armored division. At this sketchy point, I have assumed I'll have build a couple of strongpoint with wire and trenches further back and some smaller efforts forward with just foxholes and wire. An aside question might be what is a sensible set up for a front line Ruskie btn defendin a sector of the front? Many mines? Much wire? Help eagerly sought! Thanks in advance
  12. Loaded Hamachi on my puter.. now I can't TCP in CM at all. Hopeless disaster. I've deleted Hamachi but obviously it's changed some settings that I can't find to change back. Can anyone help me? (For example, what is Port 7023? .. and how does it relate to TCPing? .. and, most important, how do I find it?) Ta. [ January 17, 2008, 06:15 AM: Message edited by: HarryInk ]
  13. I seem to have had the same experience with Hamachi. Totally stuffed up my TCPing in CM. *(@#^$^&%!
  14. Can't find that Operation on my first run around the traps. If you have any clues, please eem me.
  15. *sob* Doesn't it just, Ted. Yep, wind in my hair, tracks squealing and clacking away, 76mm thumping at the enemy, swinging the sabre around and around my head. Ahhhh..it takes me back, it takes me back...
  16. You could also try Geoffrey Blainey's 'The Causes of War' which gives a survey of the reasons in chapters and a quick conclusion. Personally I think it's almost always economics, though it can be political economy (ie. socialist vs capitalist; or post-1870 France vs Germany), and very occasionally stupidity (eg. France in 1870).
  17. Happy to have the occasional arcade battle using CM. Recently, a friend and I fought a TCP 12 on 12 pure armor with sov T34s vs captured T34s. I very much like early-war clunky tanks, too. At the time I was wondering what were good matchups for early war tanks. Eg. early Pz T38 vs Sov T26? Would they match up with some ratio? (eg. 12 T38s v 16 T26s)? You dudes will know better than me... What about in CMAK? Ta
  18. Actually, after some despairing last night I realised that you'd given me that option!! Thanks mate. Still want the PC to fly but I've got two tourney games to finish, plus watching Redkitez mangle my sorry butt in 'Tiger Valley'. Looks like it'll be Mac to the rescue, eh!
  19. I have a similar problem. Wiped the HD recently, reinstalled CMAK etc now I get offered the lowest resolution and, either way I click, I get dumped out with the "Could not initialize 3D graphics" error box. *sigh* Specs are PIII 730Mhz with a Nvidia Gefore 4 vid card. I've just dl'd the latest driver from Nvidia (though I'm dubious that it's actually working, of course). Any tips? Ta Harry
  20. What will Graves Registration do for a life now?
  21. This is CMHQ chat you're talking about? Haven't been there for a week or so but see I can't get it started tonight.
  22. Bless you for finding this out. We'll start a collection for your therapy presently...
  23. There's a problem with that? Jeez, I thought living on the periphery of Europe profiting from them blowing each other apart was a Good Idea. The yanks did it well in the old days, though Manifest Destiny seems to have been hitting on steroids and slipping on bananas for the last 60 years. Least the Swedes still have their balance... and SEXY women. Don't forget the sexy women.
