  1. Try to think of it in a "real life" way. You are for example moving a thirty man platoon, giving them strict orders from their C.O., which are interpreted by the Lieut. A squad encounters, say, machine gun fire. Do you think the whole platoon is going to lock up at that point? Most would continue to advance until they had some idea of what was going on. Even a platoon dispersed over, say, 30 meters may have some communication problems under fire. Or one squad may continue to advance with another under fire to suppress. It seems like you are asking to be too much of a god. The best part of this game if you ask me are when things get a bit beyond your control. That seems to me to be a better simulation of real combat.
  2. You know, sometimes I forget I am reading the forum of an accomplished tactical battlefield simulator, and I imagine I am reading the forum of a bunch of geriatric mah jong players with false teeth, feuds, arthritis and goiters. Keerist you guys can get cranky sometimes. Poor Old Spike is worth a laugh, and don't let it get to you. Let your accomplishments speak for yourselves, if you really think beating others at a ***GAME*** is such an accomplishment.
  3. Clinton's invasion of the Oval Office, ca. 1993. Includes uber-tanks PzLewinsky and T-Hillary. Also the Cigarfaust.
  4. The attatching on board mortars to specific HQs would be nice. The Battle of Assoro. And this might seem lame but how about a nice cd case insert (I realize that shipping cases must be problematic) so you don't look like you bought the game second hand?
  5. I once saw a tank hit by a ricochet, which I think KO'd it. I'm fairly certain that the tank was in a dead angle from all my AT guns, and after watching the movie several times, I didn't notice any other rounds hitting it. So either some graphics glitch hid the killing round from view, or the tank was really KO'd by the 50mm round ricocheting off from the adjancent tank and hitting it on the side. </font>
  6. No plane sounds/strafing that I could hear, but yeah, hadn't considered it. However, it was overcast...
  7. Need some hypotheses on this one: QB vs. AI, computer picks both sides. I've got a 50mm & a 37mm ATG. The former expends its AT ammo expenditure killing one of four enemy mislabelled T-34s (they were OT-34s) after opening up too soon. The second OT-34 is gun damaged, then immobilized by the 37mm which is about 340 meters from two tanks, one of which are in LOS. It is abandoned, but then the third OT-34 is suddenly knocked out. The fourth is on the far left flank doing god knows what. I played the turn a few times, and the 50mm does not target either tank. It is firing its HE ammo load at infantry much closer. None of my infantry are closer than 250m to any tank. All my mortars and artillery rounds were exhausted. Here is what I think might have happened: a 37mm round must have ricocheted off the second tank and hit the side of the third...? I couldn't verify from any angle. Is this possible at 300m +/- by a 37mm ricochet? I'm certainly prepared to believe it. ***no bug allegations here, btw***
  8. I am glad to see I am not a complete failure as a tactician. I had always assume the high profile meant it could see tanks sooner when hunting AND remain hull down, but that is never the case. They get popped off by anything with a fast turret hull down or not. And hull down usually means they can't see anything. And they rarely hit on the first shot if keyholed. Then again, these aren't QBs so my experience is limited to green/regular, disregarding CMBO of course. Eggshell is a good description of these things. From what little I know they were only a stop-gap solution to a lack of effective armor on the eastern front anyhow.
  9. I have coincidentally played a number of recent scenarios (pbem and AI) where the Marder as been the core of my anti-tank capability. However, using them judiciously (at long range, seeking hull down and effective ambush positions, &c. &c.) they are often destroyed (I assume) due to their enormous profile. In hull down positions they are often sighted and knocked out without LOS to the attacker (or so it appears). It seems in real life this was also the case. Any comments? ______________________________ Note: this is not a complaint or a "bug" allegation.
  10. Hey, Krazy Canuck. I like your signature, it is quite relevant. Where is it from?
  11. I have an iMac G3 400. I just upgraded the OS to 9.1 and Apple Works to 6.2.3. When I restarted my computer I opened CMBB to play it and the CMBB icon had been changed to some weird picture, a hand holding a pencil over a piece of paper. Same with CMBO. This irritates me (even though the games work fine). Any ideas/suggestions? A forum search turned up nothing. Thanks
  12. It took me a long time to buy CMBB as I am a student and it comes to about $85 Canadian... But it is worth every penny. AND I still play CMBO. That is where I do my PBEMs, I am not altogether confident on PBEMs yet for CMBB. However, I win more often against the AI in CMBB. I LOVE the large map armor battles and the new sounds. And I hate the gun damaged thing, but who cares, I hate watching both my STUGs blow up in a PBEM too. Buy 'em both.
  13. Yes. You have an irrational hatred of slide rules. Frankly, your kind isn't wanted here. [/QB]</font>
  14. Steve, I have worked in retail (bike stores) for eight years and mostly as a mechanic (yeah I know, big freakin' deal). But that was the best owner's rant I have ever heard!!! And I have heard a few. By God I wish I could have replied in such a rational, lucid and informed manner to all of my customers/detractors who each in turn had made a point of taking extreme umbrage with something done ultimately for their benefit, something reasonably considered by a trained professional, something that they did not take a very little amount of time to properly understand. And I'm with you on the PBEM thing: it really isn't that big a deal. If you have an eager opponent you'll get through a game quickly. One might as well blame the "internet" for not being able to account for time zone differences. Maybe people ought to think twice before they choose their antipode for PBEM play. I.e., how is it CM's fault when you choose to play someone very far away? Cheers, Roy.
  15. Just wondering how one rates a scenario's "playability" re. TCP/IP vs. PBEM. Wouldn't it be the same thing...?
  16. I still haven't bought CMBB (filthily poor at the moment) so I suppose I am stuck here with all the "retro" folk.
  17. I just re-played Merry Xmas at Hemroulle. I love defending on this one. BTW, it is winter about eight months of the year where I live. Hence the post.
  18. Mine is Elsdorf. I have played it countless times and it is always entertaining. Something cool happens nearly every time, like a 75mm infantry gun taking out three light tanks at long range. ***edit*** on second thought, it probably wasn't that long range. But still cool.
