  1. Commandos or Special Forces are a great new and quick strike unit, highly demoralizing to enemy units, but weak on defense if caught behind enemy lines for too long. They also have a slight chance to evade defensive losses and hold out if the combat rolls go in their favour. Additionally they do not require a port to Amphibiously transport and can therefore move in and out behind enemy lines, perform raids etc, if used in just the right manner.
  2. I should add that this campaign will be included with WaW and has seen so many additions/tweaks that take full advantage of all the new Editing, Script and Unit options that it is just too many to list. For anyone that wanted to play out Barbarossa as a grand campaign you will definitely love what this scenario has to offer
  3. I heard a similar story about a KV-1 that blocked a crossroads or something like that and essentially halted an entire advance for quite some time... is this the same one you were thinking of Kuni?
  4. All I can say is that we are pretty close. Game is now fully functional (features wise) and I'm just putting the final touches on the campaigns and of course the new text for Weapons and Warfare. This is the best update I can give for now but the good news is that it really shouldn't be much longer Hubert
  5. Great and I am glad you like it... and I have a feeling you will like the expansion even more
  6. Correct and keep in mind SC2 allows for an infinite number of installations but only 2 licensed installations at a time. So, if you want to move it to another machine you just need to uninstall and unlicense from the previous machine first.
  7. Chesster, what resolution are you playing at and can you send me a saved turn where you can repeat this error? Thanks! Hubert
  8. I would also suggest to delete that MapData folder every once in a while when working from the Editor (safe to do so) as there seems to be a bug that generates very large MapData.txt files. Yours is at 38 MB and will of course slow down file transfers. Note, the MapData folder has been removed for WaW as it was never really used.
  9. powergmbh, Looks like your Palm trees are showing up with a white background. In order to resolve this make sure that all white pixels in the terrain file are set to RGB 255,255,255 or pure white otherwise it shows up as you have it in your screenshot. Keep up the good work! Hubert
  10. Eckhard, I have one tester running the 7.4 Catalyst driver and no issues to report, not sure if you want to try rolling back your video card driver but perhaps it might do the trick. Let me know if you have any success, Hubert
  11. Can anyone with the following video card running on XP please contact me at support@furysoftware.com, thanks! x850 ATI Radeon card using the new 7.7 Catalyst drivers Hubert [ August 11, 2007, 07:33 AM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]
  12. Eckhard, Sorry to hear about the trouble. Looks like you did some trouble shooting now the trouble is trying to narrow down the memory error specifically. I would make sure you have enough HD space available as well as to make sure none of the installation directories are write protected. I would also suggest trying to apply the latest video card drivers, sound card drivers and DX drivers just to make sure none of these is at fault. Hope this helps, Hubert
  13. Brucertx, there is an update for Vista which is intended to resolve several video card stability issues... not sure if it applies to you directly but it might be worth taking a look at: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=938194
  14. No this is not acceptable as v1.06 is much better It is possible then that the v1.06 patch is not applying itself in the right location. Can you confirm that the v1.06 patch installs into the same directory as your original v1.0 installation directory? Essentially it sounds like the shortcut might be correct but it cannot find the right files so maybe something is not being installed correctly when applying the patch. Can you confirm that the EXEs are updated when you apply the patch, i.e. do the dates change to more recent ones?
  15. Soundoff99, Can you check to ensure that the desktop icon links to the proper installtion directory of SC2? Sounds like you might have a double installatino and the desktop icon is linking to the older install. For the WAN IP, if you are located behind a router then it will only show the 192.68.x.x info. There is a way around this by using port forwarding and this should be covered in the manual. Hope this helps, Hubert
  16. Ok, as long as it is in the installation directory subfolder it should then see it... is your opponent also running v1.06?
  17. Brucertx, sorry to hear it wasn't helpful and I still think it is related to something on your OS stealing video memory from the game. I also found a few links regarding possible memory issues with the card but it is hard to say if they are real or perceived and/or if they actually would affect SC2. Have you had any luck with HP support?
  18. It really will be a new game as the weather changes and roads and rail add a whole new dynamic. Spotting has changed as well as it now has two separate categories, Land and Sea and even sub action will be more involved as subs can pass through enemy units except destroyers and can dive and evade depth charges as outlined in previous posts. For weather, and I'm not sure if I've comletely outlined this yet, but air units are no longer restricted by mud or ground snow but only by rain/fog, sandstorms or snow and all bad weather now affects unit movement thus making roads that much more important as they not only nullify terrain effects but bad weather as well. Roads are also helpful in the mountains as units will no longer get stuck provided they travel by road, i.e. Greek units on the border with Macedonia/Albania can retreat back to the capital if they are given the chance.
  19. Moonslayer, agreed and I guess everyone will see this in action soon enough As an aside I too wanted to include these new unit types especially for the smaller scenarios but at the same time was curious how they would work in the larger campaigns and I think in many ways they worked out better than expected. For example, with Artillery it was possible to create a true V1, V2 type unit with Rockets as I was now able to completely separate the roles, i.e. Artillery is only good against Soft and Hard targets while Rockets are now only effective against Resources. Research upgrades also reflect this. So what we have now is Rockets that increase in range and resource attack only and it is a better overall representation of the V1 or V2 super weapons strategy as originally desired. FYI, with the new Editor you can adjust each increment level for each research type and with the current schematic Rockets increase in range 2 tiles per research level as well as increment in RA by a factor of 2 for each level. They are still reduced in effectiveness over longer ranges but this too can be controlled in the Editor and they are reduced 10% per tile beyond their base range. Essentially Rockets can now be quite deadly at higher levels againsts various resources and very deadly at shorter range targets once they reach those higher levels. With the introduction of the Tactical Bomber we've also been able to completely separate the roles of Bombers, Tactical Bombers and Figthers... a true Rock Paper Scissors if you will and it has worked out quite nicely as well. Another addition is that Bombers have double strikes and can now spot enemy resources (i.e. full spotting for those in range). To counter the increased effectiveness of a Strategic Bombing strategy the player now also has mobile Anti-Aircraft availalbe but these are limited in the Hard Builds option so even here there will be some cat and mouse tactics as ranges increase and targets become plentiful. Similar situation with the new Destroyer unit and so on... I could go on as there is much to say but I think this paints a pretty good picture of some of the things that can be expected with the new Expansion pack
  20. Stalin, Not to worry, villages like Siwah and others in this particular campaign are set to 0 MPP value and max out at Strength=5. This of course can now all be edited via the updated Editor for each resource type, i.e. max strength as well as maximum MPP. For the new unit types like Artillery, Anti-Tank and Anti-Air etc., I had the same initial feelings and always felt that they would not be appropriate for this type of scale... but when we used Paratroops and Engineers for SC2 Blitzkrieg I slowly realized that this was perhaps a mistake. Generally while the scale argument goes that these units would be a part of any Corps/Army etc., just like in SC2B where players had lots of fun with sneaky air drops and/or building fortified lines, there is simply no way to re-create some of the tactical excitment in a grand strategy game without the introduction of these new unit types. In fact I think Dan said it himself he simply loves using the new Artillery unit and wonders what he did without it
  21. Hi Bruce, I looked on the HP site and I found the following two links that appear to have newer drivers then the one you listed above. They seem to be the right drivers based on your description, i.e. notebook running Vista with the same video card but please double check to make sure it all matches up on your end relative to the full description found on these links: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&softwareitem=ob-51365-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&softwareitem=ob-51371-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN Note, they both have the same version number and release date but one is described as a Graphics Driver and one as a Video Driver... not really sure what the difference is but hopefully you'll be able to sort it out and hopefully this helps. Hubert
