Twin 128's, never seen one of these before (500k pic)
Teamski1 replied to Fenris's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Its a shame that they are, like all of the rest of the rare stuff at Aberdeen, rotting away outside. Sad.............. -Ski -

The trailer definately does not belong to the guns. The guns are spot-welded onto the trailer. The their base is also drilled for bolts, which are not installed. If you fired the guns, expect a nice trip as the weld lets go and you go with them over the side! -Ski ps: yes I am an idiot: 128s were never used as such on German ships in WWII -

I just visited the museum last week with a friend from England. We talked about this gun quite a bit. It looks like a Naval mounting off of a battleship or cruiser, more than anything else. The chassis its on is a heavy lift linear type, one that could be used to move extremely heavy items for ship building moving in a straight line. The gun is simply welded onto the carriage. Talking it over, we thought it might of been unshipped and used at a dock facility like Kiel or St Nazaire. The sign mentioned that the whole thing weighed something like 18 tons (I could be way off, though) so it would have to be a static mount. It's gotta be really rare! -Ski -

Fallschirmjäger semiautomatic rifle
Teamski1 replied to TheCrow's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
FG 42 is actually considered one of the most successful firearms of it's day. It was complex as hell and expensive to make and the fact that the Fallschirmjagers were used as ground troops for most of the war made it difficult to justify it's manufacture............... -Ski -

Remember that the 66th Inf Division fought long and hard to contain over 55,000 Germans in the Lorient and St Nazaire ports throughout the war. 10,000 French troops were assigned to the 66th for this task............. -Ski -

From what I got, the 5th Yorkshire Div arrived in North-West Europe 2 March, 1945. Pretty late players in the game............ -Ski [ June 13, 2002, 05:06 PM: Message edited by: Teamski1 ] -

With CM and CMBB, should I bother with ASL?
Teamski1 replied to Commissar's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Oh yeah, Big thanks for posting the purple box, I too always wanted to see what it was! Man was I obsessed with that game. I really want the ASL interface, any way to get it available on CMHQ or something like that?????........ -Ski -

Teamski1 replied to Commissar's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I agree that ASL made the game almost unplayable with all of the new rules. I had the original 4 SL games (sold and rebought when AH went out of business). Remember when AH mentioned in the GI: Anvil of Victory rule book that ASL would bring it all together and NO changes were going to be made, but everything from the 4 gamettes brought together?? I bought the ASL rules and some of the gamettes and quit cold turkey for two reasons: 1. New rules like that residual firepower that made the game slow to a death crawl. 2. The fact that I had to continually buy gamettes that cost $35 each and only getting a fraction of the coverage as that in the original series. Too much of a money pit, and boy was I pissed. Thank god that CM came out after the debacle with Steel Panthers and Close Combat!! Now I'm happy, nobody to search to play and the far more realistic Fog Of War and WEGO!!!!!!!!! I will always remember Christmas and unwrapping Squad Leader though............. -Ski -

Hehehehe. Yeah it's a big aircraft. It has a 222ft Wingspan, 247 Feet Long and weighs in 349,000 Pounds dead empty. Max take-off weight is around 748,000 Pounds. I've even seen a SR-71 loaded in it (with wings removed, of course) She's a pig, but I wouldn't trade........... Thanks for your support guys, it means a lot! -Ski -
