Minor bug and nice feature
Alan replied to imported_argie's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
This is the problem I had doing the tutorial battle with +200% for the allies. Most of the extra tanks end up using the infantry HQs for command but one always had a black command line going to a non-HQ tank. It was always out of command. -
All the tanks were unbuttoned. I even tried toggling the tanks to see if it changed. What I found odd was the fact that the 3rd independent tank acted like the 2nd tank was the command tank. My understanding was the extra tanks should be using the infantry HQs. I should try this in the other scenarios and see what happens.

I was playing around with the tutorial and set the allies to +200%. One of the tanks(3 VEH, IND) has a black command line that goes to tank (2 VEH, IND). No matter how close together the tank is always out of command. All the other independent tanks have command lines going to infantry HQs. I've tried it several times and it happened every time.

I went the Star Wars route with red for the Germans and green for the Russians. It looks great. Thanks for the mod. -
Death Clock for AT guns...why not?
Alan replied to Pak40's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I like the idea of a DC for AT guns. It would make sense to have one for pill boxes also. I've seen several guns go to just the marker after a turn of shelling. I'll have 3-4 tanks shooting at it and it will stop shooting and then change to a marker. I have never see one come back after this. I plan to play around with it to see what exactly is happening. -
As long as you guess the route the Russians will use then it is do able. I would alternate the units I had firing. One turn I would have the platoon HQ and a squad fire. The next turn I hid them and had the other HQ and squad fire. I just tried to pin the Russian troops. After the tanks were chased off I used the AT gun on the MGs. I ran out of ammo with 5+ turns left so I was lucky to have routed most of the Russians before then.

The All New Newbie Tournament: Fellowship of the Newbie

I know the CMBB demo is out but I shouldn't have to bump this from PAGE 5! -
I won a Total victory as the Russians first. Then as the Germans I managed a Major Victory. In both games the tanks suffered multiple penetrations and routed. I think one in each game suffered gun damage also. The difference in the AI's attack seemed to be lack of area fire. I used all the ammo from the MGs and morter to suppress the sound contacts.

New Battles now at the Scenario Zone

I'm using WinZip 8 to decompress them. -
I have a similar problem. The map appears on the battle selection screen but when I try to edit it the screen freezes and I get the selection sound. After that it just locks up my PC.

New Battles now at the Scenario Zone
Alan replied to Pzman's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Unfortunatly I am still having problems. I hope I'm an isolated case. Ready for the Fray locks my PC up on the battle selection screen. Snow Warriors crashes back to the desktop. This is what was happening originally. Stand of the Strong works fine. It is kind of funny because I played Snow Warriors and The Fray in the tournament. -
I just DLed the newbie battles for the Fellowship of the Newbies Tournament. When I try to play "Ready for the Fray" or "Snow Warriors" CMBO crashes back to the desktop. "Stand of the Strong" runs ok but it doesn't have a description on the battle selection screen. I'm running Windows ME.

Fellowship of the Newbie AAR's
Alan replied to Cpl Carrot's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I won Ready for the Fray as the Canadians. My opponent had his infantry sneak thought the woods in the center of the map and tried to manuver his tanks down the flanks. The short AAR goes like this: On the right Flank (the big hill): He tried to move 2 tanks and 2 HTs down the hill to the road. When he got to the road my snipers buttoned his tanks and the 6 pdr killed all 4 vehicles in 1 turn. In the center (the wooded area): He moved at least a company of German engineers up to my position. He over ran a platoon, a PIAT, and a MG. I used all my mortars to pound him in the woods and the MMG carriers to shoot anything that came out. He still managed to make it across the road to the woods until the last few turns. On the left (by the wheat field): He lost one tank to the 6 pdr then drove around it. He shot up the 6 pdr and a piat I had over there. Then he drove straigh for the road in the back. My reinforcement PIAT killed his 3 remaining tanks as they came through gaps in the bocage. All in all I got a little lucky. If he had kept one platoon of infantry on the left he would have wiped my reinforcment platoon out along with several MMG carriers and an FO. I'm ready to DL the scenario and try it as the Germans. -

Cpl Carrot After we finish our battles can we trade passwords with our opponent? -
The demo is a good place to start. If you have the cash and like the demo I say get CMBO now and CMBB when it comes out. There are a lot of good AARs out there that will give you an idea of what to expect. They pretty much sold me on the game.

I plan to obscure my tactics behind a wall of bad grammar and angst. To add to the deception I will only include pictures of my units being destroyed or captured. Cpl Carrot What format do you want AARs in? I've been using MS Word. Am I correct in thinking that the AARs for this round will be available after the round ends? -
Is anyone from Houston interested in car pooling? As cool as it would be to go, I don't feel driving the whole way. I'll definitely chip in for gas, beer, show girls, etc. [ July 15, 2002, 09:22 PM: Message edited by: Alan ]
