  1. 86, Yes, the tank was pushing the HMC out of the way. In fact, pretty cool. Alternatively, it could be a ghost of a dead tank pushing the dead HMC out of the way. Cheers, Richard [ May 31, 2002, 09:20 PM: Message edited by: PiggDogg ]
  2. Matt, Steve, Moon, etc. This is the most important and useful thread on the whole BTS board. It should have permanent place reserved at the top of the Tips & Tricks board. Also, some kind soul may want to update it weekly or monthly. Cheers, Richard
  3. With infantry, a good defender (and, for that matter, a good attacker) must micro maneuver. That is, troops must be shifted out and into of enemy LOSs so that they do not receive much enemy firepower, but they can deliver a massive firepower superiority against one or two enemy squads. This might be moving to a different side of a building or small woods to get out of enemy fire and into a place to deliver fire. Indeed, in some cases, one must actually pull a few units out of enemy LOSs and not be able to deliver fire. This is to avoid taking casualties while fellow soldiers deliver massive firepower superiority. Blah, blah, blah. Just some thoughts. Cheers, Richard
  4. I guess the new look is OK. It doesn't matter to me either way. The new look seems to be a little more compact, but maybe my eyes are just getting old. Cheers, Richard
  5. Redwolf, In your post with the snapshot of the pillbox, 37 killer AA, and soon to be dead Stuart, you are well aware that the 37 AA will get a turn or two of unabashed bliss of whacking Allied thin skins if they are foolish enough to hang around. However, against a competent opponent with sufficient resources, probably in two to five turns, the 37 AA will assume ground temperature from off board arty, from on board mortars (spotted or not), and/or from a bunch of heavy skinned vehicles and ground pounders. Indeed, your set up is finely done and I would use it, but is certainly not perfect or permanent. However, as we all know, in CM there is always a counter to everything. In general, he who kills and, thus, is seen soon is turned to ashes. Cheers, Richard [ May 30, 2002, 12:28 PM: Message edited by: PiggDogg ]
  6. Foamy, Piats are really worthless against German infantry. However, Piats may not be perfect infantry AT weapons, but they do kill most German vehicles. Be patient, have them hidden, and let the Kraut vehicles come pretty close (50 to 100 meters). Then unhide them and let the piats choose their own target. Or target an enemy vehicle. One can bet that a regular piat will miss 2 or 3 times before they hit (remember the rule: "no matter what you do is wrong"). Don't even ask about green or conscript piats. Vet & better piats are well ... better. One nice thing about piats, many times they can fire and, especially if German infantry is not too near, the piat may remain unspotted even after several shots. 7. Nac4, With full respect to your views, I really don't want to spend a lot of time commenting on your posts here. However, relatively quickly done & not formulated in to an erudite essay: (1) Critisizing CM for what it is not and for what it has never been claimed to be, is your right, and that is acceptable to me. However, such critisism is intellectually and logically inconsistent and unfair. (2) I have studied WWII since being young, and it is such a pleasure to be able to actually see the inter-relationships between the various weapons and tactical organizations of that war. (3) Certainly, CM is not perfect and not perfectly accurate. However, it is pretty darn accurate. Further, for me, CM is a lot of fun, and I enjoy matching my wits against other fellows from around the world. (4) If you dislike CMBO or CMBB and the concepts behind them that much, vote with your pocketbook. Don't buy them and put BTS out of business. That is your right and that is OK. (5) There are maybe 6 billion people in the world and maybe 20,000 have purchased CM. Of those, maybe 2,000 play consistently right now. Considering the diparity in numbers between 6 billion and 2,000 to 20,000, obviously CM is not for everyone. However, I look forward to CMBB. Nac4, good luck to you. Possibly, somewhere out amonst the 6 billion, the game that you wish for exists. I hope that you find it. Also, let me know when you do find it. I'll buy it too. Cheers, Richard
  8. Guys, If you like the effect of a bunch of on board 60 mm mortars, then you will really love the effect of on board 81 mm mortars. If you hit 'someone' with 'something' bigger, then the 'someone' will have greater detrimental effects than being hit by 'something' smaller. Indeed, being hit by one single 155 will have much more effect than being hit by a whole bunch 60s. Check it out. However, in all cases, one must make do with what he has. If one has a bunch of 60s, concentrate them and pin prick the target to surpression, disruption, and small casualties. I belong to the 155 club. It is more effective than the 60 club. Cheers, Richard [ May 27, 2002, 12:22 PM: Message edited by: PiggDogg ]
  9. Dor, With the exception that your German Halfies will probably fire at nearby threats pretty much no matter what you order, you may want to put those halfies on 'hide'. At least this way those halfies probably would not fire at longer range threats. Also, keep those German halfies away from 50 cals at 500 meters and below. At 500 meters & below, 50 cals will toast German halfies.  Cheers, Richard
  10. The "big" disadvantage of Wespes & Hummels (as compared to Stg42s) is that they die from nearby hits from big arty (155s [my 155s have inflicted this, so I personnally know] &, probably 105s) and, because of their open tops, they die from nearby tree bursts. Stg42s have much less chance of similar destrution.  Further, 50 cals will whack Wespes & Hummels. But, wow, those 150s on the Hummels are some sweet (they slaughter infantry), but such a slow rate of fire. Personnally, I'll take the Stg42s because they are more robust than the Wespes & Hummels. 11. For the Germans, Hetzers and PzIV/70s in a ratio of 1-1/2 to 2 Hetzers to one PzIV/70 is a most deadly anti-tank combo. Hetzers can kill almost all Allied tin cans. The PzIV/70s can kill the more difficult Allied tanks such as Churchills & Jumbos which the Hetzers can't kill & back away from. As well known, Hetzers are cheap for the buck. PzIVs/70 are expensive, but can kill what the Hetzers can't. Of course, if possible, place these fellows up slope, hull down, and overlooking the battle area. In these positions, these guys hard to hit and, even better, they may even have a shell or two bounce off of them. Bouncing a shell or two and then killing that evil shooter is usually the difference between victory & defeat. StgIIIs & StgIVs carry no allure for me. PzIVs seem to die when hit by pea shooters. These guys will die when hit once. No bouncing shots here. Needless to say, this is bad, bad. I don't like them. In contrast, Stg42s with that lovely 105mm anti infantry gun are sweet. Keep them away from any Allied AT guns and let them pummel the Allied infantry. Too bad they don't carry quite enough ammo. However, the Germans should have one of these guys around. I like a few of these guys. Opinions are like noses, everyone has them. Cheers, Richard [ May 23, 2002, 10:58 PM: Message edited by: PiggDogg ]
  12. I have to pretty much agree with Jason. CM conscripts are near worthless, are exceedingly frustrating to have, and are probably pretty accurate. I hate having any. CM green are also quite frustrating, but should probably be considered real life regulars. I really dislike getting any greens when the enemy have regs & vets. CM regular infantry is pretty stout and probably truly represent how real life vets would act. CM regular tanks similarly represent real life vets. CM vets are just too stout for any normal line units. They will just die to nearly the last man and real life regs and vets just would not have the tenacity of the CM vets. Probably, where CM has 4 catagories of troops between conscript & vet, there should actually be 5 or 6 catagories. Let someone else, not me, figure their names and attributes. Indeed, CM battles have casulaty rates that are just too high to truly & accurately represent how real life battles were fought. However, they are darn, wonderful, good fun, & I love CM & its battles. Cheers, Richard
  13. The new Balanced Force Rules are quite useful. They certainly are not perfect, but they seem pretty darn good & efficient. Fionn, thanks. Cheers, Richard
  14. If it delays the release of CMBB for one additional day, then no, I don't want the Maus, the Laus, or the Kraus included in CMBB. Add those weapons later. Cheers, Richard
  15. Jeff, Yep, 'Show Tunes' is the background music. One can see those light footed happy boys just doing the feather weight New York show tune step.  It is scary, isn't it. Cheers, Richard
  16. Pink Flamingo Brigade ???!!! Holy cow !!! Are they related to the renowed "Pink Berets" ??  I am waiting with bated breath for the answer. (is it bated or baited? and baited with what? worms, minnows, shrimp, crawfish [i'm from New Orleans & we eat those delicious buggers {crawfish, that is} boiled & spiced]) Also, "halflings"??? Does that mean that there are "full-lings"? Cheers, Richard [ May 04, 2002, 01:18 PM: Message edited by: PiggDogg ]
  17. Guys, Thanks for the info on vet versus reg schrecks. I assume the same applies to vet versus reg zooks & springs. Ok, now do the tests required for the zooks & springs. Just kidding, but if you do, I would be quite grateful. Cheers, Richard
  18. Cromwells have very little to next to no chance to kill a Tiger from the front. Play the Wittmann & pals versus Brit 7th Armored Division scenario to see how effective (actually, ineffective  ) Crommies are against Tigers. Your Crommies' AI commanders thought that they saw a Tiger and acted accordingly. They could not kill the Tiger, so they fired smoke to shield their eggshell hides from the perceived Tiger's 88. In the future, if the Crommies identify the perceived Tiger as a PzIV, they will shoot AP. Send that sniper forward to ID that Tiger? . Cheers, Richard
  19. Ok, I do not need any prodding. I am going to buy CMBB without any bones being thrown. Where do I send my money? Cheers, Richard
  20. I had a downhill fast speeding Brit Bren gun carrier taken out at about 120 meters by a faust.  Great shot by that evil faust. I watched it a few times. A few turns later, that same faust could not take out a stationary carrier at about 100 meters. All it comes down to is Dame Fortune smiling on one or one's opponent. By the way, I won that game and the faust bought the farm. Cheers, Richard
  21. Dropping one's bier is the worst of all possibilities, except for dropping one's head. Cheers, Richard
  22. Yep, that little commander in the tank has a brain and tells the loader which type of ammo to load. In fact, that teenie commander does a pretty good job of matching ammo to target. Cool, isn't it.   Cheers, Richard
  23. Ober, Don't drink any bier this week & next weekend. That should get you well on the way toward the funds required for the games.  Let me have a cold one. Cheers, Richard
  24. Your commander knows something, and he does not want any part of it outside of his iron box. Someone, quite possibly a sniper, is shooting at your target headed commander. Hunker down close upon your AC and follow the whole turn especially in the moments just before the buttoning. You may hear a ping or something similar upon close listening. Cheers, Richard
  25. Cross Of Iron. Great flick. Don't miss it. In fact, search it out & see it. Cheers, Richard
