1. In South of Sword, my 150mm FO took out: 1 Sexton 1 Daimler 2 M5A1 HT 3 Carriers 1 MMG Carrier numerous infantry ...but that was vs the AI, who gave me a nice vehicle park in plain view to immolate.
 2. If you want to try Infantry Close Assault vs. a Tank, it will greatly help if you 1) use a smoke screen to allow your Infs to get close enough 2) button up the Tank first, preferably not with the same troops you'll close assault with. Failure to do so may result in the Tank becoming Enraged, and it will then joyfully then demostrate how it is Armored & Dangerous.
 3. Teleporting Tiger eh? I'll betcha they'll score high in Rarity for CMBB. It wouldn't suprise me if Adolf issue a request than one be built, though.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Holien: Move it or Lose It!!! You can play this multiple times and it will not play the same. I suggest playing it blind as it is serious fun blind. South of Sword is also good and provides some interesting challenges. H

I second South of Sword, its one of my favs. Also "First Clash at Cambes"- another M.E.
 5. This anti-light armor capability of the MG42 HMG was a big deal to me...I was playing a Heer defense vs. the AI, and had already lost all of my AT assets (vet. Pak43, 2 StuG, 1 'schreck), KO'ing 1 M4A1-76 and two M4 Shermans, leaving 2 more M4's, 2 M5A1 HT, and 2 M20 Utility Cars to deconstruct my defense (plus I only had Faust-30's). So killing two HT's w/ MG42's was a most pleasant surprise.
 6. I had no idea until seeing kill% graphs that the MG42 HMG can kill M3/M5 HT's. I tried this out last night in a QB vs the AI, and killed two M3A1 's with perpendicular flank shots from 200-250m. Just when you think you start to know something about this game...
 7. I like to hide them at first, esp. if I see any 37mm/40mm tanks around...they are rather good at KO'ing Pillboxes w/ their highly accurate fire and high rate of fire. Once I'm confident that I have neutralized some of the AT threat, I'll open up, or maybe sooner if need be.
 8. Soddball me lad, there are two alternative reasons I humbly offer as to the origins of November 5th's fame: 1- On November 5th, 1955, Scientist Dr. Emmitt Brown slipped on his wet bathroom floor, hit his head, and saw a vision of…<drum roll>…the Flux Capacitor… http://www.whysanity.net/monos/bttf.html 2- November 5th is my birthday…though my recent plot to blow up your Heer lads went off far better than Guy's attempt on Parliament!!! So have I earned the "You've cut Soddball's troops to ribbons" award?" Cheers and good luck vs. Mannheim Tanker & your Dorosch thread foes.
 9. Count me in. I do well against the enhance AI (+1/+2, +25%, etc) and have completed 2 pbems. I've been playing since Feb'01.
 10. I have a Celeron-566, 191 MB RAM, 66 mHZ bus, and a *2 MB* Video card...even with all hi-res mods, it does OK...maybe a bit slow panning at Level 1 on bigger battles. Of course, it takes awhile to run, say, an 8000pt. ME w/ 60 AFV's like South of Sword...maybe 1+ minutes each for the AI's moves and the movie calculation. 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Chris Knapp: After playing the demo for about 2 weeks non-stop, I finally got the full game last week and played one of the large brit scenarios (The meeting engagement on June 7), and I have to say that this game is fantastic! I want to tip my hat to the designers and congradulate them on a job very very well done.

Welcome to CM, Chris: though please be aware that you are no longer a CM player, but rather a CM *drone*....CM Borg says, "you have been assimilated." As you already know this game is a wee bit addictive... The June 7 scenario...was it First Clash at Cambes? Its one of my favs...the 1st big battle I played. I was the Brits...it plays better as the Germans if you're playing the AI, since the AI doesn't tow the Infantry Guns around, which is a huge waste of assets. again, welcome. Silvio Manuel
 12. I agree with the apparent over-proliferation of Pumas in CM scenarios & QB's. It also seems like there's quite a few very rare Hotchkiss tanks running around- I wonder if that is because the scen. Designer is abstracting some other tank that isn't represented in CM:BO. 13. Sharpshooters have "gamey" stealth? Would such a player think that VT artillery is gamey because it explodes above ground level? Edited: I realize why they are gamey...if they are 500m from your other troops and maybe even out of LOS...you as the commander get the full "take" on what they see...even though they might be out of C-and-C and wouldn't have radios of their own. Darn Borg/absolute spotting again, "dag nabit Malorie git me ma shotgun so I can blast that Borg back to Hades...!" Puma rarity? The number I've seen is about 100 total Pumas (50mm PSW 234/2), along with another 100 75mm 234/3 and about 600+ 20mm 234/1's. I like the 250/9 for recon, but if I'm confident enough that I can keep it alive, I'll take the PSW 234/1 AC, with its radically higher ammo load (something like 98 HE, 20 AP, and mebbe 80 MG rounds), and better armor (handy vs. the ever-popular .50cals). I also like the higher speed of 55mph vs. 37mph. (mainly for road usage) and the alternate rear-facing driver for quick getaways. 14. Generally speaking, I try to keep my PzIV's further away from the enemy that I would with a StuG, due to the thin turret armor of course. Out around 500m+ I get a happy amount of ricochets against 37mm and 40mm AP rounds vs. both the turret and hull. Staying at greater range also better utilizes the greater m/s speed of the PzIV gun vs. Sherman 75mm's.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by michael: In a recent QB vs AI, I sent a brit rifle squad "fast" into a small building only to discover a german flame unit was already in residence. (Why he didn't zap me en route will always be a mystery). The following turn, in reply to my squads' frantic house to house, the swine flamed me at a range of 5m. The result: oddly, no casualties; but we both broke and ran and the building was set on fire. Are flame units slow to attack targets of opportunity? Are they deliberately suicidal when cornered?

I imagine that their ability to ambush is dependant on Exp. Level and if they are in Command and Control. I've had AI FT units in the same situation flame the house i just entered from the next house down...brutal.
 16. Someone here once said that one of their tanks (Tiger? can't remember) took a ricochet, and the AP shot bounced off and KO'd their Panthe thru the side. Tough luck.
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Chad Harrison: gammon bombs: my paras threw a gammon bomb down there and all that was left afterwards was one man!

Similar to Gammon Bombs...I just had a Brit Rifle Squad be instantly Routed by a Pioneer's Demo Charge...even though they took NO casualites. They ran the other way like you wouldn't believe! The only Rifle Grenade incident i had was my Vet.US para squad nailing a 250/1 from reverse slope at mebbe 20m. THONK!
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Feldgrau: I believe it's called "A Walk in Paris" or something like that. That is the only time I have run across the Hotchkiss.

There is a veritable convention of them in "La Fiere." mmmm, gammon bombs vs. thin obsolete armor, mmmmm.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Wolfe: BTW, the Sexton should probably be allowed under Short-75. That was a typo on my part, and was never corrected. - Chris

Good point about the Sexton. I was slack-jawed when I saw that it shoots at 610 m/s...and is thus a better AT weapon that a Sherman75mm....though only vs. thinly armored targets, since it has a tendency to reverse & protect its thin armor when faced w/ a StuG and up.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Mud: How about flaming a building that you're about to abandon anyway? For instance, enemy troops are about to overwhelm one of your forward buildings, so you order whoever's inside (if anybody) to withdraw and order a waiting FT to fire the building and then (pause, say, 30sec) to reverse/fast-move out away.

I use this tactic as well. Use inf.FT's to torch a house i'm either retreating from, or want to prevent the enemy from using- when I think they're about to charge into it.
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Commander: Maybe you could achieve nearly the same effect by choosing your own units and limiting your purchase to half the points that the computer gets.

To make it more fair, I tend to give the AI a 25 or 50% force advantage, then buy the AI's units, and let it buy mine. Even better...give it Reg/Vet's and myself Green only.
 22. I had this happen to me during a night battle...I had just mauled an enemy position, and both troops in that group, plus my other group on an adjacent hilltop 150m away started shooting at each other, panicking a few squads. bad news. perhaps you can even have your AT gun nail your own tank?
