In 1943 and 1944, large numbers of 81mm mortar rounds were produced. This probably reflect large stocks of captured ammo available in 1941 and 1942...

wait a minute... where would the germans have captured the 81mm ammo? the russian equivalent was 82mm wasn't it? it's my understanding that the german 81mm ammo would work in a russian 82mm tube but not the other way around. is that right? andy

 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Gyrene: The s*** would really hit the fan when USMC units came out with their morale of 8

in asl, the usmc are the best squads, bar (no pun intended) none. andy
 4. you may want to make it into a meeting action. andy
 5. i would like to use 76mm, 122mm, and 152mm batteries in a direct fire role. my understanding is that the soviets had a fondness for direct artillery piece fire. certainly the 76mm was very common. andy
 6. i recently fired up riesberg and lost 3 times as amis, then twice as germans. oh the humanity. i had the computer experience set to +3 and - especially when playing germans - wondered if that +3 setting were somehow making the 88s less accurate. andy
 7. it seems like a lot of the features people are asking for here are going to be delivered in the next release after cm2. my understanding is that cm2 is going to be the same engine as cmbo with units from the russian front. then later on there will be 'cm2+' with trenches, different soviet command structure, mine dogs (just kidding), etc. does anyone have a list of what changes we might see in the first cm2, with its, 'same engine as cmbo?' i mean, will there at least be some new terrain tiles or 'somefink?' andy
 8. generally, i will fight until the ai surrenders for me when my troops' morale drops below 20%. having said that, in my opinion it's always better to formally surrender than to simply stop sending turns. andy
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by rexford: The "real" Tiger was alot better than CM portrays...

again, comparing to squad leader, the tigers are a disappointment in cmbo. the lack of optics modelling is one of the letdowns. now in that regard, maybe squad leader had it wrong and cmbo gets it right; it just doesn't 'feel' like it. i love the tiger tank, but would never buy one in a quick battle. andy
 10. i don't know about this whole debate, but having once played a lot of squad leader, here is what i do know: i miss the 'thing' in squad leader where a couple of machineguns could literally wipe out a platoon of enemy infantry in a heartbeat. in cm, it seems like infantry are almost never in that kind of danger from machineguns, particularly at longer ranges. in squad leader, even at longer ranges a platoon could get hosed from time to time. i miss that aspect of squad leader. andy
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Vitalis: I must be the ONLY German armor fan that likes the Pz IV-H better than the Panther and Tiger series.

don't feel too alone. =grin= you know there are at least a couple of us who currently think the StuG is the 'bees knees.' andy
 12. I'm wondering if anyone here thinks that the Shermans are given too much AP by default. From what I've heard it was an infantry support tank. W hy does a default Sherman then get as many as 40+ AP rounds by default? It would seem that 10-20 would be more realistic. Andy
 13.
quote:
Are there loads of people out there buying 10 of these and kicking butt?[/QB]

hey i resemble that remark. ==laugh== either those or the 7/1s... and throw in pupchens and 75mm recoilles and you have lots of cheap german firepower. andy
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Molotov: why was this halftrack omitted and the puma was n't? It would be so fun to have a quick mobile 75 mm gun to flank the enemy with. is it possible to mod this in the game????

i used to call for the inclusion of this one, but then i read that the firing of the gun would warp the chassis of the vehicle; so maybe it's a good thing they left it out. andy
 15. in addition to the at rifles, i believe that the soviets fielded a lot of 76.2 mm guns of varying lengths. i mean, from what i've read the 76.2 mm was very common, either as an artillery piece in direct fire (short barrel, probably HE or 'c'), or the longer AT gun firing HE/AP. then there were the 45mm and... andy
 16. i've got a hardback copy of that here. ...didn't realize i had a phreaking collector's item! laugh you might be able to find it at 'east front books' or some such. i believe they're located in virginia. on carell, some will say he's not accurate, but the material seems accurate to me. he is admittedly partisan to the wermacht side; perhaps at times embarrassingly so, at least in this age of political correctness. andy [This message has been edited by grunto2 (edited 04-05-2001).]
 17. i think that they do need to be remodelled. andy
 18. Frank Zappa thought people both, 'stupid and bad.' ... all except for him of course =grin= seriously, there is a school of thought which postulates that humans and the things they do are ultimately, 'neither good nor bad; they simply are the way they are.' of course this flies in the face of what most monotheists believe. i guess we're getting into 'general discussion territory.' andy
 19. the symbols and the scapegoats might change, but 'it' (oppression/destruction of one group by another) seems to happen over and over again. andy
 20. (in towns)--Make sure every house is accessible by road.-- i agree with most everything but that. some of the european towns had very narrow streets.. sometimes i'll just put a bunch of small buildings in a cluster and leave it up to the player to 'imagine' the narrow lanes running between them. this is only done with dry or very dry conditions though, in order to best represent those streets. andy
 21. i don't think that they'll be _that_ potent, but i'm fairly certain that a direct hit from the 152mm HE will be bad for a panther. su-152 - 'zverdoy' (beast killer) i remember reading somewhere that the soviets enjoyed employing artillery (76, 122, 152) in direct fire. that will be fun too. andy
 22. a plain old su-152 will be good enough for me. in any event i'm fairly certain that 152mm HE will be good against just about any target. the bt5/7 are going to be fun too. oddly enough, i want to see more german halftracks, particularly the 37mm recon varieties. is/2 is another one... oh, and su-76, ...and pzIII, and pz35 and 38t 'stay away from those woods, there might be at-rifles in there!' andy
 23. yeah it really sux when the other guy has a tank and you don't; i mean if his tank has any decent HE capability. lots of caveats here... like how big is the battle (how much remaining infantry is there?... are there any AT assets which might have a chance of 'getting' the other guy's last armor?... is his last tank engaged in close combat in a city where it might quickly be destroyed?) generally though - all other things being equal - it's no fun when the other guy has armor and you don't. andy
 24. if memory serves, even as late as the battle of the bulge, the ss were driving spw 251/1s straight into combat. andy
 25. the piat is great in defense because you can put it inside buildings. the baz is good on the attack because it is fast and makes a good recon unit =grin= i don't really do that... andy
