  1. Count me in. Dem udder games iz for cissys. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  2. I would also prefer that to a 15 second pause. Maybe they can implement this request for CM2? ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  3. Bah. Microsoft evil. Bah. But I have a windows PC. Bah. Only CM is the true way! Abandon all arguing about which system is better! We all travel same road, some of us use different wossnames to get there. So. Yeah. That's my peace and love message for the day. More positive waves as required. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  4. Pah! I only bought the game for the manual. I use the CD as a coaster for my coffee mug. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  5. Dunno. Who's in it? ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  6. wwb_99 - I suspect that dust from vehicles had less to do with bitterly cold winters than climatic effects (volcanoes etc) - simply because the dust wouldn't get high enough into the atmosphere. When a volcano goes off the dust ends up high in the atmosphere and then causes a cooler spell. I have my doubts as to whether vehicles could contribute enough dust, at a high enough altitude, to make a difference. It might be worth checking meteorological reports (if I had the time or inclination) ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  7. A moment of silence for the comrade whose wife has bullied him into talking to the children this month. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  8. I have an intellimouse explorer from monkeysoft. It has a red glowy thing underneath which means I no longer have to scrape my balls clean every month I don't think it's particularly good from an ergonomic point of view though. I've also used wireless mice, which mean you can sit at pretty much any angle and make yourself as comfortable as you like - I recommend them for notcableness as much as comfort. Finally, whoever recommended the gel-filled keyboard rest and mouse pad is right. They are the poodle's privates - although they're pretty unpleasant to hold so I suggest you just use them for their original purpose. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  9. I wonder whether it would be possible to model some sort of order delay for units who had injured/wiped out headquarters. For example, you lead your infantry force into a town. One platoon gets cut off (say 50 metres away) from the rest of your force, and loses its platoon HQ. How do you contact them? I believe that they should either: 1) Remain where they are until they are able to receive orders either from another HQ unit or (with perhaps longer time lag) from another unit. 2) Withdraw at high speed (not broken, but panicked) towards friendly lines, only turning once they meet friendly units. I would appreciate any feedback on this since I know that some modelling of time delays does occur but it puzzles me that units who have no way of being contacted can still be commanded. Perhaps, since this takes away 'control' from a player by adding 'realism', it would be worth having a 'FOW - Full Realism' option? ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  10. Hey! That looks great! Any chance of a Tatooine one? You could have Banthas armed with 75mm guns roaming across the sun-baked lands outside Mos Eisley. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  11. To Martin's question about burning buildings so the enemy can't use them: I don't think there's anything wrong with that tactic. It sounds like a means to protect yourself and whilst some might wave the 'gamey' flag I would be quite happy to do it. It seems like a perfectly sensible reaction to a potential threat and 'scorched earth' tactics have been used for centuries. Affording a FT tank to give me enough uses to burn lots of stuff is a different matter, though ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  12. I got to use the sherman croc in the 'west wall' mission. German troops burn GOOD! (Only, successful use of flamethrower - normally my idea of a good time does not involve driving around in a cardboard box filled with flammable liquid. I'll just hide in this ditch till it goes pop.) ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  13. What I found interesting is that it isn't consistent - which is as it should be. I can now clearly see the benefits of better quality spotters. Can you tell me whether you were able to carry out research on green/regular/veteran/crack troops (since they are more common I would have thought) and if so whether the difference is quite so substantial? ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  14. Urhhh. Penetrating Pamela BAD. One penetration and she would deflate. Does it count as hollow charge or discarding sabot? ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  15. Griffin is right. On the Villiers-Bocage scenario I drilled Wittman's tank in the arse with a 37mm from a Stuart and took it down. They aren't invulnerable and as allies you just have to be clever - and fast. And when the newbie starts to push through your lines with his ubertanks - let him - and then paste him in the side with PIAT rounds. Bear in mind he's paid 200pts+ for his heavy tanks, and your PIAT cost you around 20 That's value for money. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  16. Soz CrapGame - I knew what I meant but forgot the right term Consider me firmly chastised. *shudder* ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  17. I would say that it's incredibly difficult to answer that question - only you can decide when it's a good idea to pull back - it is dependent on so many factors. One example I can cite - I was playing an AI game (I was defending as germans) and in a patch of trees I had a Volksgrenadier platoon in foxholes. Out of the trees 150m in front of the platoon a company of allied infantry started charging towards their position (bear in mind that a VG squad is 8(9?) [which gives 24+HQ] but a 44 squad is 12 [which gives 36+HQ, total 100+soldiers]. I was keen to withdraw them to a hamlet 100m back, but decided to chance it and keep them in place. Remarkably, they won the battle for me. I lost about 50% of the soldiers there, but they stayed in place and held off allied troops long enough for mortar fire and reinforcements to win me the game (with 8/1 losses on the allied side I might add). So you can see that tactical withdrawal, which I would have thought could have saved me those soldiers, would have been a mistake - since I would have lost that part of my defence and it's likely the VG platoon would have been cut to pieces. Only you can decide when it's best to withdraw (and I believe it's fundamentally wrong to decide never to withdraw) but practice will definitely clear up for you when it's a good idea and when it isn't. As you can see, I still haven't worked it out. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  18. I had my first go using a JPz-IV yesterday (axis defending vs allied AI) and I found it to be a pain in the bum without a turret. It was fine hull down on defence but once I had routed the right flank of the AI I couldn't use it in an offensive way (didn't turn to target infantry etc) - this was low pts so only 1 tank on my side - but in defence it was good. I find that a surprisingly good tank buster is a Churchill VIII with discarding SABOT. I have used it a couple of times to remarkable effect. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  19. Sorry if I sounded suspicious - it's nothing personal. I can see your point now Can I suggest you trade in the children for a faster PC? This would solve the problem and you would have extra CM time ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  20. LOL - So what you're asking is, can you avoid playing the game without using the copy protection system implemented? Hmm. Now let me see... ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  21. When I think about it, that makes sense - after all, they're mostly carbon fibre and polymer for the body - but would an interior cargo of 300 tons of tank create a noticeable radar image? ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  22. Interestingly there was an article in the 'New Scientist' a few months ago investigating the advantages of using giant airships to transport cargo. With an estimated cargo capacity of 200-400 tons and a flight time across the atlantic of 24-48 hours (depending on whether you have a headwind or not)half a dozen of these machines could allow you to deploy moderate numbers of heavy armour units rapidly. The downside is their great size and the fact that they are not desperately stealthy and are, of course, highly vulnerable - but if you need to ship goods across a large area very rapidly then this seems to me to be the best way to do it. I am inclined to agree with those taunting Blenheim - let the US pick their own armies - but it does worry me when I hear reports that the US is no longer going to take an 'active role' as world peacekeeper. With our crappy aircraft carriers and my cretinous british government cutting back on all the military hardware we urgently need I welcome 90,000 tons of nuclear carrier backing up British forces on the ground. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  23. And 100% of them are CM addicts. Shame on us ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
  24. The Germans IIRC did work out that radar was allowing interceptions and made a number of attempts to disable the radar stations - on the days that radar was out of action (either through bombing or mechanical failure), the Luftwaffe did a great deal of damage. The point about the pilots is interesting - what hasn't been raised though is that during the BoB pilots would fly 8-12 hours a day, sometimes more, and could easily become burned out - if they survived long enough. Exhaustion was often a problem for squadrons desperate to keep planes in the air. ------------------ "Woof!Woof!" That's my other dog impression.
