  1. This one's interesting. I'm starting to think the 76mm ÜberFinnish arty is useless. 5 minute delay and 150m offset from target as standard? Here's the situation: I'm trying to shell socialist scum into submission before assault. My FO is not suppressed, is in command and has LOS to the target area. Yet, 1st barrage missed by about 150 meters. I re-assigned target to where I wanted the fire to fall, as manual suggested. Again, 120 meter offset.. This time on the FOs own head!! Shee-it. Someone get these guys a clue. Yeah, the FO was 130 meters away from target. So what's the story here? ÜberFinn arty in CMBB sucks?
  2. Everyone knows finns only become Über when they're properly drunk! Russkies tried to copy the tactic with little success. For best results, you need authentic Kilju. Hangover alone is enough to make men lose theri fear of death!
  3. Converting m/s to km/h in unit info screen would be great.. Alternatively, converting mph to feet/s would be fair enough Ability to give *additional* waypoints to groups would be nice. When your platoon's reaching their destination, you have to invidually select each squad and give them a new destination. Alternatively, order them to halt and order a new move with the delay penalty.
  4. I suppose this one won't make much difference except for the Finnish-speaking majority. In any case, why do my Überfinns keep on saying they've spotted an enemy when there's absolutely nobody around? I get that line over and over when the guys are moving to contact. Is this supposed to model guys being extra jumpy?
  5. I've heard it both ways. Some people say metric system has been taught in schools for a generation. Other people say they're moving from metric to imperial..! Ok, they think Euro is a bad idea, too. So it figures. Sheesh, this is going to be a long email to UK comissar. I'm afraid there have to be some purges.. This is just one of these pet annoyances. There is no reason whatsoever to use bloody m/s for vehicles. None. BFC has just decided It Will Not Be Fixed. Maybe someone should use the handy Meter Attitude Adjustment Stick on the boys?
  6. It's just funny they didn't have too much trouble with converting feet/s to mph.. Perhaps because with imperial system, simple unit conversions are impossible? Someone had really very good point thought. Germans, Finns, Hungarians, Italians, Russians and (probably) Romanians use metric system. So wtf does the game not give us the universally used vehicle speed representation in kilometers per hour? This ain't no space ship..
  7. Directive #3 was an amusing little scenario. Got minor loss, my bad for playing soviet armor like it was German. And thinking the T-34 would be able to stand up to the 37mm popguns.. Too much playing (original) Steel Panthers. Most damage to German panzers was made by two "missed" BT-5s with shoot + scoot tactics. OTOH, taking over that factory was POC.

  9. I'm not really interested in estimating how many meters the panzer is theoretically going to move during one turn. In most terrains and movement modes speed is much less than maximum road speed. KPH gives anyone who's got a driver's licence a pretty good *idea* how fast a tank can move. I think that's the point of the stat in the 1st place. M/s doesn't do that for me.
  10. Any hope of patching unit info window to show "kph" instead of "m/s"? For vehicle speeds.. For muzzle speed, m/s is quite approciate. After all, we have feet/s and mph.
  11. You can always ask the author for permission, tho. On the other hand, it's about as good a solution to group this kind of mods under the same web page. By the way, in my box the game comes up in about 10-15 seconds, so even the minimum 30 sec delay is an overkill. Maybe the delay should be a command line option?
  12. Why not support this effort? SS loader You could even bolt in historical flags and insignias for all-in-1 in-your-face-CDV-mod.
  13. Oh, C'mon. Everyone and their kitty modded CMBO to the point where it squaks and still no problems with Radeon cards. In any case, I'm not interested if it's a problem with the game or the drivers, but battlefront has talked to ATI evil int. corp. bent on world domination, right?
  14. Is the 1st patch going to resolve the Z-mask problem? Whoever the blame belongs to, CMBO works without a hitch and CMBB does not.
  15. Is it just me or are my Überfinns in crap shape? I can "advance" about 200 meters in forest after which I'm too tired to play soldiers (=lift my rifle) .. But I was not in a good shape back in the service. So "advancing" in a clear terrain for 100 meters knocks the wind out of my ferocious soldiers? Hrmph. Perhaps there should be one level above "fit" to denote "exercises at least once a week"?
  16. Just an observation, even in the Finnish manual there is "Waffengrenadier General BlaBla" .. I can sort of understand having it in the game, but Finnish manual? C'mon! Well, beyond that, see you in Viipuri and let's have some Tali-Ihantala scenarios/ops, ok?!

  18. Nah, they're just replacing every instance of "SS" with "Grenadier" in the stock models by hand..
  19. Oh, the happy days of the steel panthers and being unable to penetrate T-34 from any direction with short 50cm gun.. No shortage of things to argue about then!

One point not pointed out - I'd feel a LOT safer sitting inside the fragile eggshell from the 7.92mm et al bullets that someone would be itching to put into my head as soon as I open the cupola. Especially after what we did to the last half-dozen squads we came across. If the engine goes bust, now that's different.
  21. Rage 3D tweak can be used to turn on Fog table emulation. AFAIK, it's definitely present in 8000-series and definitely not present in 7000-series. But as the tweaker comment says, use it only if you need it.
  22. Sure, I didn't touch the setup and CPU had scenario defaults. I didn't issue any orders before hitting "GO".. I repeated it twice with each variation, yielding results within 1 second..
  23. Famous programmer's excuse: "But I never touched that module..!" I did some stopwatch testing and yelnia shows quite a bit of difference. 1st turn after setup without changing german positions, from pressing "GO" to the start of playback: Z-Mask on with unit selected: 55 seconds Z-Mask on with no unit selected: 45 seconds Z-Mask disabled: 25 seconds (1GHz Athlon blah blah)
