  1. At least according to the front page info, "standard" BFC shock force does in fact include full printed manual: Choose from the Standard Edition version which includes the game and 200 page printed manual or a special Deluxe Collectors Edition which includes the game, printed manual plus a full color Combat Mission Mouse Pad with helpful game commands and interface info as well as a 14" x 14" inch color Operational Map of Syria detailing the hypothetical invasion of Syria featured in the game! That actually makes the BFC edition somewhat attractive, you get printed manual with S&H for 43,60€ or about 15€ more than the cheapest deal online (play.com) However, Paradox claims the US retail version has leaflet so unless the BFC "standard" is not the same as US boxed version ... ? 2. Speaking of the manual.. Is the printed manual in the BFC standard edition the full 196 page manual or the 40-page travesty like in the EU release?
  3. You can in fact make a printable version with Acrobat (full) if you feel like and have about an hour or 2 to burn. I once did it with X3 manual. Tricky bit is getting rid of the background pictures as you're more or less reduced to wiping them out one-by-one. Dunno how BFC and/or Paradox would feel about someone posting such a PDF, thought. ("Lawyers, Lawyers, this is not a drill!" )
  4. Which we aren't simulating so it isn't relevant Steve </font>
  5. I beg to differ here.. There's huge difference facing british long 76mm guns in an Pz IVg vs same situation in Pz IVe against soviet field arty gun.. There's often frustating "klonk"-factor especially with Pz-IIIs (long 50mm gun or not) vs T-34s. But StuG-IIIf will eat them for breakfast. And then you come up to some monster like KV-1 ... Where that 88 gun comes in. And so forth. Lots of combinations where one MBT is practically invulnerable to opfor means head-on. You could say of course that the diversity of the available ammunition and guns and panzer models is huge compared to roundup in modern conflicts. Of course if, say, Russia and China go to war for 5 years without going nuclear, you'd start seeing nifty upgrades to their existing hardware.. In cold war era there was of course times where the soviet tanks were similarly overwhelming. Introduction of ERA comes to mind..
  6. I quess it's too late seeing how the domain has been already taken .. But the site backend seemed very, very cumbersome. Typing in results by hand? If you compare the setup they have at the blitz, it practically runs itself except for distiputes. I sure don't have necessary SQL/PHP skills to set up such a system, but I'm sure someone in the RD does.
  7. With Rugged defense apparently gone defunct, any suggestions for a replacement? I checked out the blitz, but I don't like how it gives you no idea how many games a guy has going.. Not much point challenging someone with 10 matches under way! Warfarehq seems to have the same limitation. Proving grounds doesn't have a ladder.. Tournament house seems to be CMBO only.
  8. I see. Same old then. Great for PBEM, too bad about the single player experience. Shame as campaign and/or chained scenarios would not take much/any changes to the CMBB engine, just a tweak for the front end!
  9. Is there going to be campaign and/or multi-part scenario support, with sticky forces?
  10. Here's a link to the "catalyst current issues" thread.. So you don't have to excert yourselves overmuch
  11. If anyone reads Rage3D forums, CMBB/CMBO FSAA bug is in the bug-list. Toss a PM to the listkeeper so it's not just "one user" having problems..
  12. If you put "combat mission" no-cd into google, you'll find some helpful files.
  13. I use daemon tool myself, works just fine. Did you get it from the "official" website? CD check is a pain in the ass, especially if you play PBEM a lot, so.
  14. I wonder how much relative development time it'd take to add vertex fog option for ATI cards.. About the same as preparing a single 3D model? [ July 15, 2003, 04:29 AM: Message edited by: Barleyman ]

  16. Ooh, I get all tingly thinking about this beast splashing water on the faces of BFC crew enjoying rum daiquiris while "researching" for CMAK .. Seriously, the assault boats are a joke and they should be replaced. Since 1.03 is the final patch, that's not going to happen. Not officially anyways. Any gentlemen any good with a spot of hex editing?
  17. I think BFC has in mind the 2nd last episode of Band of Brothers. The guys crossed the river by pulling themselves over with a rope.. Necessarily kinda slow business!
  18. Reversing a motorized boat can be a bit more tricky, but assuming you can reverse the engine it still won't take 3 minutes. And a motorized boat would move much much faster than the so-called assault boats do.
  19. Arr. Thick in the action in Rugged defence tournament. I don't know who created this scenario, but the fine gentleman is 1) sadist 2) pacifist 3) both Now, about the combat mission boats. I've paddled a few rowboats in my time and yes you can reverse the damn things. Easily in fact. If the CM boats are not supposed to be rowboats, why do they move like my poor grandma after the stroke? Ok, the rowboats I've used were not big enough to carry 10 guys in combat gear, but the principle does stay the same. It does NOT take forever to turn them around, dammit. and they CAN go backwards. End of rant.
  20. As far as I understand these things, the war was won by a) Russian divisional and higher level artillery Russian strategic operations (bagration, uranus etc) c) Russians reclaiming the skies in -43 d) Russian tank platoons which could've taken out US and UK armies for dessert after defeating germans Assault rifles are nice but don't make much difference for operational manouvers against enemy which knows you're coming, outnumbers you by 3 to 2 and has comparable weapon systems to boot.
  21. It's not very neat to have almost 6000 separate files in the bmp folder. Not to mention it must be very very slow to access them, which probably explains loooong map loading phase. Since CMBB already uses WinRAR, it should be very easy to compress the bitmaps and wavs with zero/low compression so you'd have them in one big file. Which would still be accessible for modders and you could just check if the files exist in the bmp dir during loading. That way you'd see exaclty what mods have been installed too. Don't know if RAR has libraries for handling the compressed files but info-zip has at least.
  22. How about a campaign wrapper? Or in-game briefings for ops? What about associating PBEM-files with CMAK?
  23. Add another request/plead for small campaign wrapper. It'd be much easier to do than some other stuff being worked on and it'd give a real boost for the solo-play experience. Even customized operation in-game briefings would be much appreciated. And that's an ability to stick single text file into the op. Ooh, while we're at it, debriefing text would be nice too. "3rd battalion opened a line in the front allowing resupply of 2nd armoured.." Another really-nice-and-stupidly-easy-to-do addition would be command line loading of PBEM files. That is, being able to associate *.cmak-files with the game executable. Guys? Guys?
  24. Oh! My favourite. "Multires", a freeware resolution applet by PowerStrip guys broke CMBO. Nothing else was affected. It was apparently a very minor fix to fix it, but still.. another CM engine exclusive.
