  1. Impressive. Now lets see if the post office can find my new address since I moved last month Whether it makes it or not, a big thanks to BTS for the effort and great CS.
  2. Sigh. Still no campaign mode then? Looks like Steel Panthers remains on my harddrive for another product cycle. I'll play both obviously, but one of these days I hope somone makes a CM style game with a good campaign mode.
  3. Thanks for the shots sir! Looks awesome I feel my italian scenario coming along already....
  4. Hmm which reminds me to pick up that new battle for berlin book thats out. Was it purley political reasons for assaulting Berlin rather than sieging it out or was there a military reason as well?
  5. I guess I am the only one who gets scared looking at that photo? If I was a defender I really would be quaking in my boots. Shooting at that mass just seems pointless and the idea of immediate bayoneting would indeed make me consider a sensible retreat at full sprint. I guess as the token coward here in the forum I am evidence that these human waves attacks could indeed work. A few of me in your trench and that wave might break through
  6. Nice! Any chance of changing the SS poster to another German recruitment poster? Its a game after all and it pains some people to see such images. Either way I cant wait to use it!
  7. LOL yeah the sounds do kinda destroy any pretence that its not a jet engine Very true.
  8. I would just rename Jets to "Improved Fighters" This would removed the disconcerting feeling of seeing jets so early but allow such innovations as the Sturmoviks and Focke Wulfe's which I take to be the result of research. So far I have not seen the actual gameplay effect of "jets" to be any more dramatic than heavy tanks for example. if your opponent starts getting the edge then you must play catch up or suffer the consequences. Feels pretty good to me.
  9. Just joining in the general excitement. W00t! Cant wait!@
  10. -Campaigns Preferably a clone of Steel panthers system but campaigns of some sort
  11. Another here, Steel Panthers excellent campaign generator is the reason i still play it to this day. But BTS is well aware of players requests on this issue. We will have to wait and see what happens.
  12. ''"One can now already say that the task of the Heer of destroying the mass of the russian army west of Düna and Dnjepr is accomplished. It's no exaggeration when I state that the russian campaign was won within 14 days..."'' (de lurks) Actually Ill step upto the plate for Halder on this one and the T34/ KV1 issue in general. I think its easy to fall into the trap of mistaking WW2 for a "modern war" in the sense we understand it in 2002. Its easy to forget just how primitive many technologies were in WW2 becuase some of its participants are still living. I am thinking specifically of recon technology in this case. The Russian and German high commanders got it VERY wrong in the early stages of the war. They had a very large area of land to consider, limited aircraft based intelligence, zero satellite intel, poor human intelligence (at the lower level of formations etc). It must have seemed to the German (and I daresay some Soviet) commanders that the red Army was uncountable somewhere out there in the great ocean of land. With the information available I can see why Halder thought the way he did (I daresay he wasnt alone either). Regarding the T34 and KV series one of the great things about the CM game system is that it doesnt fall prey to the "wonder tank" syndrome that I have seen in many other wargames (minatures mainly). The thing I love about CM is that I find myself having use for units that commanders at the time has use for, Panzer II's? Sure I can use em, Bren Carrier? Awesome, give me more! In this case I can see how I will be wanting some fast moving engineers to finish off troublesome heavys striped of their infantry support. I dont see their early arrival posing a problem at all to game balance in early war scenarios, in fact it may help foster a new point of view, that the German armies victories in 41 were as hard fought as later battles in the war and certainly not a cakewalk. Should be fun!
  13. Yes to sign my name next to the "campaigns are cool" box. I would dearly love to see a Steel Pathers style campaign generator in CM2 so I can play a series of solo battles. Unfortunateky BTS has rejected this in the past as they believe such a system is unrealistic. I disagree but hey its their game and frankly i will buy CM2 any way so I guess Ii am on the hook Maybe we can eventually change their minds UPDATE: My bad here is BTS's actual response rather than me putting words into their mouth. "Will there be a campaign system added to the game? "We currently have THREE folks asking to make a huge campaign system of one form or another. All three have made multiple detailed pitches to us. All three have started by saying all they need is the file format. All three have then described a system that requires much more involvement from us than just that to make their system work. We haven't rulled any of the three out (yet), but to be honest... I just don't see how it will be possible to do any of them. We know there is interest (though we don't think it is more than a decent minority of customers), but on balance it isn't as important as the other things we have to do. Remember, any campaign system is only as good as the tactical battles they contain. If we skip something major in order to do the campaign stuff, everybody suffers the loss.{correction. I made this sound worse than it really is. Let's just say that we are skeptical that "just an export file" will be enough. So we porceed with caution, but are still looking at the proposals I mentioned seriously." -Steve" [ 10-04-2001: Message edited by: dumbo2 ]

  16. Mlapanzer: Religion doesnt make it better, religion never makes anything better. BTW its worth noting this was reported by Fox, hardly a news source you can trust.

  18. Well it used to be just Dumbo then I managed to send a changed password to my old email address which i no longer had access too and so lost the original Dumbo nick. Given the episode above I think you can figure out how I got my nickname [This message has been edited by dumbo2 (edited 02-14-2001).]
  19. "who view this GAME as something other than a GAME" I have heard this since I started wargaming. The fact of the matter is that historical wargaming deals with..well history A part of history that a lot of people take seriously and so tempers run high over issues which would seem silly in a fictional wargame. I wouldnt get upset for example if you had Elves fighting their halfling allies in a fantasy game (actually that sounds kinda fun ). But this isnt a fantasy game, it deals with a very turbulent part of history and like it or not there are many who regard historical wargaming as being in part a way to gain more insight into the period in question. They maybe wrong and they may take thing too seriously in your view but surely you can understand the sentiment? cheers _dumbo [This message has been edited by dumbo2 (edited 01-25-2001).]
  20. "Your rather inflammatory language aside, the French *did* try to butcher the US. Ever hear of a little place called North Africa?" You mean the other way around surely? The French were defending from the US attack as I recall..... However your point is well made but CM specifically deals with 1944 onwards during which as far as I am aware there were no allied vs allied engagements of note during this time period. I think (just guessing) that BTS restricts this for the same reason they restrict mods to the game data. They want to try and keep the game as close to their vision of history as possible. I happen to agree with them but i agree its a matter of taste. _dumbo [This message has been edited by dumbo2 (edited 01-25-2001).]
  21. Given the already high amount of crettins who seem to enjoy bashing fellow members of the english speaking world one way or another I think this would be a terrible idea. I shudder even to think of the lame scenarios that would come out of it. What is even worse is that WW2 is actually an example of just how when the chips are down democracies actually rose to the challenge (bad jokes about France do not gel with the facts incidentally). The last thing we need is such a noble endavour clouded by some silly theoretical nationalist fantasy. just my 0.02c _dumbo
  22. First wargame- Homemade (to go with my Airfix napoleonic figures), featured such things as rolling a dice to see how far each troop moved First commercial wargame rules- Bruce Quarries WW2 or Grants, I cant remember which came first. First Commercial Boardgame- Squad Leader. The best christamas I ever had. My parents had let me buy it a week earlier (because they rightfully thought they would buy the wrong thing) but I was not allowed to open it. I kept my word and didnt open it but read and re read the back of the box through the shrink wrap many times First Computer Wargame- Eastern Front by Crawford. I would take my Atari 8 bit with the cartridge around to my friends house and we would split the command between the north and south army groups. After maybe the 8th time playing this (and several days later) I remember clearly my freind looking up at the screen in surprise and saying "you know there dont seem to be many russians left". We were both shocked to realise that we were actually going to WIN, something we had just assumed was impossible _dumbo
  23. Interesting detail in the center wheel. The "Hub cap" is partly removed. I assume these were unscrewed to replace the wheels? I tried zooming in to see how far the grass had grown between the wheels but its too hard to tell (also the shade of the tank would reduce plant growth between the wheels). One possible source of identification for sure would be to identify the plant covering thr forward part of the shot. In particular is the barrel shaped object part of the plant or part of the tank? Great piccy _dumbo
