1.
quote:
Originally posted by redeker: P.S. Is the Daisy Cutter a FAE munition?

The Daisy Cutter is not a FAE munition. A FAE or Fuel-Air Explosive is one that releases the explosive fuel into the air over an area, basically a large cloud or fine rain of it, then ignites it.
2. I've run CMBO sucessfully on both as well as on plain Win98. With all of the Win9x series you will be using the same video, sound and other drivers so the experience should be the same or very similar. I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to my gaming machine so if it were me I'd go for Win98 SE simply because it has less bells/whistles/junk in it than ME, but the two are pretty similar.
3. What they're getting at is that in CMBO you can change the BMP files, basically the 'skins' of objects but you can't alter the shape.
4. I think this is new, there's a preview of CM2 on CG Online here.
5. I've never actually read 'Forgotten Soldier' which really makes me an authority but if you've read 'Heaven and Hell : War Diary of a German Paratrooper' by Martin Poppel and similar books, though they seem to be rare, I think you'll find alot of the supposed inconsistencies in 'Forgotten Soldier' to be quite common. Just to pick one example from the critisism:
quote:
Sajer's unit also never seems to have owned unit equipment -- they drive their trucks to the front, then are put on a train and, next thing we know, they are delivering supplies under fire using horse carts? These and so many other things tend to simply make the story fantastic.

In Poppel's book this sort of thing seemed common. Also I think you're going to find personal accounts somewhat disjointed and lacking completeness, as you find with Poppel's. Taken in that context they're still worth the read.
6. I think buying yourself another copy of CMBO every two or three months you continue to be obsessed with it would be proper compensation for BTS I'm fairly sure there's at least four games I haven't bought since I got CMBO.
7. One of the things I try to remind myself of is the context of the game. We know that we could look at tank and figure out where the hole is and from that deduce where the killing shot came from. However the odds of being able to do that (while under fire) and get useful information back to the commander so that he could act on it in the next few turns (minutes) is rather unlikely.
8. I'm guessing this movie is based on the David L Robbins book 'War of the Rats'?
9. How about displaying a LOS map that plots LOS on a grid? Meaning rather than plot every single point (very CPU intensive and probably just a little too much info) display LOS at points, say every 10 meters or something like that. That would give a decent approximation and show me about where I should drag my LOS line around to get the gory details.
10. I agree, this is a great game. Everytime I think I've got it figured out something like this happens Last night I also finally got around to playing on my home system with surround sound (I've been playing on my laptop for a month or so) and discovered I can hear all sorts of neat things. Two that stood out was I swore when a mortar round landed on a squad of infantry I heard a guy yell 'Oh my god my leg!' and I also heard a Sherman crew say 'yeah we got him!' when nailing a StuIII
11. Yes this particular scenario does take place at night. What surprised me was the circumstances. The unit that is being fired upon broke and ran past the squad that is firing at them. The squad doing the firing has an experience of 'regular' and a status of 'shaken'. The squad that is firing on the friendly unit does a couple different things on the next turn when I load the saved game. The majority of the time they seem to panic then go 'broken' in the next minute. So maybe they're not thinking right after all
12. OK I'm too lazy to search the forums for this so if you don't like people who don't do their research close this window now I'm playing the fun Bruyeres scenario and doing poorly as usual. One of my rifle squads panics and runs off the hill towards the rear. The turn ends and I notice that another American squad, that didn't run, is shooting at them! If you're really interested feel free to grab my saved game file and take a look.
