1. Geoff, I've never played with the "Fog Of War" option turned off, but I think it will let you see the causalities you inflict from any range. Maybe you should play a game or two like this until you get the feel of what’s going on. And take it from me; this is the best most realistic war game on available today! -Head
 2. What Sgt_Kelly described does sound logical but it seems to me that B.T.S. would have modeled what Fuse described. Hell, they didn't skip over any detail anywhere else! I suppose I'll post the results of my air-to-air test scenario since so many people are still unsure about what would happen. Thanks again for the constructive replies! It seems that our "Combat Mission" discussion forum is beginning to turn into the "General Discussion" forum. -Head
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Kingfish: Opposing air units occupying the same airspace wouldn’t affect each other anymore so than opposing arty units within range of one another.

Kingfish, this does appear to be what I am experiencing. However, it does seem a bit unrealistic and I thought I had heard different as I mentioned in my first post. Although C.M. deals mainly with "ground combat" air-support is still in the game. I wish they had put in a role the dice system for a dogfight. Then the victor of the dual would begin his ground attack without a bomb load, or would return home due to damage or depleted ammunition. This might sound like a bit much but watching two opposing air-support units just wave at each other in some mutual air-to-air ceasefire as they drop their bombs is a bit weird. -Head
 4. Fellas, Can we please stick to the topic/reason that I posted this message? Thanks. Again, can someone pipe in who knows how C.M. models Allied and Axis air-support attacking at the same time on the same map? I won't have much time to setup a test scenario myself this week and would love a quick answer. Thanks again, Head [ 05-02-2001: Message edited by: Head Mahone ]
 5. I could be wrong, but I think I remember seeing that there were only about 1500 US Rangers in Europe during WWII. If this is true then I can understand why BTS didn't model this unit in C.M.. Still hurts though. The Rangers were some gutsy bastards, and still are! -Head
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by David Aitken: There is no mention of air engagements in the manual. If you see aircraft attacking both your forces and your opponent's, chances are there are aircraft from both sides involved.

David, thanks for replying. The mission briefing for this scenario stated that air-support would be present for both sides. I know that this is not a guarantee, but I have never seen friendly fire on this large a scale. It really looks as if our fighters are ignoring each other and hitting the ground targets only. This seems kinda unrealistic; does anybody know how C.M. models opposing air forces meeting each other? -Head
 7. Looks GREAT! Do you take request Pud? If so, how about some foliage on that sucker? Man that would really be the finishing touch! Never the less, good work my friend. -Head
 8. First off, I got no luck with a search so here it is. I'm playing a PBEM where both sides have been given air-support. It appears that the fighters on both sides have arrived at the same time. If not, than the RAF is bombing my tanks and my opponents simultaneously turn after turn. I thought I remember seeing that when this occurs (air-support from both sides collide) the fighters jettison their bombs and dogfight without you knowing about it. The winners of the dogfight then commence with some air-to-ground strafing runs. So here's my question. When both sides get air-support what happens? Are these flyboys just ignoring each other here, or is this an unbelievable case of friendly fire? Thanks in advance, Head
 9. What a great read! This game is by far none the BEST war game out there.... -Head
 10. Very nice JasonC! But let us not forget about this wonderful little jewel.... http://members.tripod.com/johnnocmdow/unit1.htm -Head
 11. Volksgrenadier (VG) - late war, new pattern infantry formations. Many personnel transfered in from Luftwaffe or rear echelons after the collapse of mid-to-late 1944, also older and younger men (40s, teens). Decent officer and NCO cadres, but highly variable quality overall, conscript to veteran. Almost exclusively SMG armed (fewer LMGs than standard, far fewer rifles), to give high close-range firepower without too much training. Usually without vehicle support, but guns, teams, mortars plentiful. Used as ordinary infantry, but relies more on Hvy weapons for range combat. Also more likely to use reverse slope defenses (behind ridge, inside woods rather than edge, interior of a village) to maximize effect of SMGs and fausts. -------------------------------------------- See Zipper's post on "German Infantry Types". Jason C put up a great reply there. Hope that helps, Head
 12. Are there any vehicles near, or around those tall pines that your troops are in? -Head
 13. Dublin Ireland huh Paton Returns? Man, what I'd do for a pint of that Guinness. I've got over an hours drive before I can get a good pint of the black. On top of that its still not as good as it is in the Bower! -Head [ 04-27-2001: Message edited by: Head Mahone ]
 14. There's nothing wrong with living in the swamp my friends. Besides, we get to screw all of your drunken girl friends when they come down to New Orleans for Mardi Grass! MMUUHHAaaaa haaa haaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! -Head
 15. I don't see nothin' wrong with Redmow's signature. And anybody who does is a dorky bottle capped little bastard who doesn't have anything better to do. In fact it's YOU who are causing so much attention about the thing that you claim you dislike! To complain about someone’s signature on a freakin war game message board shows just how much of a stupid wanker you really are! -Head

Do you brew "all-grain" batches? --------------------------------------------- To REVS and Triggerhappy: Don't worry yourselves about my knowledge on subs. I know all about the silent diesels and the loud reactors on the nukes. In fact my boss was a sonar tech on a nuke some years ago. I just like to though trash on the line of off topic threads. Besides, I thought my first post was pretty funny! -Head Mahone (or Head Ass as Scipio pointed out)

 19. Pakfan, first off let me say EXCELLENT WEB SITE! Those pictures your Grandfather took are great and a rare find indeed! Not to mention all of the other wonderful pictures of Europe and the museums that you've visited. I am assuming that your Grandfather was with an artillery battalion? Is he still around today? If so, have you ever shown him Combat Mission. I have lost both of my Grandfathers and would loved to have showed them C.M.. We talked about the war a lot. One of them having seen extensive action as a sharpshooter in the Philippians. He too had some incredible pictures of the war but unfortunately they where lost when his house caught fire years ago. The only thing that remained undamaged was a German P38 Luger that his Brother brought back from Europe. It was amazing that the original leather case protected it from the flames. Cheers, Head
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Heinz 25th PzReg: Remember that 20mm and 37mm German guns fire bursts. Heinz

Heinz is correct Specterx. It is the burst of multiple rounds penetrating multiple times that is causing the kill. Now we move on to the 37mm getting a single kill with a single shot. I've been hit with small calibers such as these and have received "Penetration No Serious Damage" or crew casualties resulting from it many times. To that I'd say the game is modeled fine in this aspect. -Head
 21. I still think Wittman was killed by a rocket from a British Hurricane Franko. And so did his old gunner, Bobby Woll. -Head
 22. PeterNZer did you not just read Abteilung's post? I understand both sides of this argument and whatever side BTS stands on I will most likely support it. Not having the US jeep in C.M. (as numerous as it was in WWII) would have been a bad thing. Personally I don't give a damn if the R-75 is molded or not. To say that it shouldn't be done because of its venerability to enemy fire, or gamey players is ludicrous though! -Head

Didn't say much of anything at all, in fact.

Yep 109 Gustav, that's him alright! I'd Email him small talk with my turns and he'd just reply without answering. That picknernut! I thought about starting up a crusade against him in the Opponent Finder, but wised up. I know this is no place for this kind of crap so I'll shut up now. I just hate people like that, that's all..... -Head [ 04-14-2001: Message edited by: Head Mahone ]
