  1. Man what's with those guys? Here's what I typed in their comment box: What the hell is this! Where is Shogun: Total War, and most of all COMBAT MISSION: BEYOND OVERLORD!!! Have you guys been living under a rock somewhere or WHAT! -Head
  2. The rumor has it that C.M. II will be fought on the Russian front. I think we all agree that this will be great. Nothin like a little house-to-house sniping in Stalingrad, or Tiger hunting in your T-34. But, it seems as though this should be done with perhaps an add-on pack. A whole new sequel should jump leaps and bounds over its predecessor. Not to say that the Russian front wouldn't, but just hear me out. Don't you think that a Pacific theater C.M. would have a much newer fill? Not to mention that the Pacific theater has been widely overlooked by gaming companies (except for flight sims). Don't get me wrong, I love Combat Mission. Anything that B.T.S. does will be excellent I'm sure. But I can just imagine some heated jungle fighting, flame throwing out Jap supply caves, and hell even an Iowa Jima beach landing! My Brother has gone as far as to say there should be Combat Mission Vietnam! I know that's a little much. But being chop lifted in, or supported by gunboats, choppers, and napalm bomb runs would kick ass as well. I hope I didn't open up a can of worms here. I just think that a Pacific Theater C.M. II would not only be a hit, but also just as ground breaking original as the first! -Head ------------------ "No man ever won a war by dieing for his country. 4. Hey Fellas, Last night one of my Panthers was almost directly hit by a U.S. fighter-bomber. After the bomb run its status was: Gun Damaged Immobilized No Crew Killed The tank was now stuck in the newly created bomb crater. After this was done I blew out a small sigh of relief. My tank was still in a good position, had good cover, and none of my crew where killed or shocked. Yet before the end of the turn my crew abandons ship. Could it have been because I had gun damage, meaning that all weapons where disabled? If so, then I don't blame them. But if I remember correctly, I thought the last time I experienced gun damage my tank continued to fire. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one fellas. I'll await your always-respected response. Thanks, -Head ------------------ "No man ever won a war by dieing for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." -General George S. Patton, Jr.
  5. So...what gives? What do I do with this opponent of mine? Im just looking for some answers and probobly a few flames from some of the purists around here. Go ahead and fire, I probobly deserve it. Sorry for the lenght of this post and the inevitable spelling errors I am too lazy to check for. Well we all know that bad, and good luck has a frequent occurrence in real combat and C.M.. It's just another feature that makes the game so good. We also know that the German armor has a definite advantage (though I don't consider the STUG as having that status) over the American armor. An American commander can still overcome, and not just by out numbering (history tell us that). But, after reading your message it does seem that you are just being plain "out-played". I do not mean to offend you by saying this, but that's my take on it. Especially since you have some other victories under you belt. It just appears that this particular fella has read your book, MANY TIMES. My only advice is to hold your armor back (or at least 3/4s of it), and out of site in the beginning of the game. Let what little infantry you have do some scouting. Spot your buddys armor, then make your anti-tank attack. I know it takes discipline, (especially when your ground units come under fire) but it works! - To move your tanks in with the forward attack in the beginning of the mission, is the same as marching across an open field to take a "?" victory point 'TOTAL AMBUSH'. Most importantly DON'T GET FRUSTRATED! You'll never come up with a winning solution unless relaxed and optimistic. Oh, and don't forget to had fun....... -Head ------------------ "No man ever won a war by dieing for his country. 6. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Webs: Oddest thing happened to me. My 'zook hit a Stug at 55m and scored a front upper hull penetration on a Stug, but all that happened was that the Stug buttoned up and reversed away. This happen to anybody else? You'd think a penetration would pretty much put an end to that machine. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I find this to be quite realistic. Especially of the WWII era tanks with small (by todays standards) 75/76/105mm guns. You'll find that this situation happens often in C.M.. Just last night my one of my Panthers penetrated a Sherman 76mm twice from the front. The poor bastard never stopped firing back until it eventually received it's death blow. Three cheers for C.M., and the gaming pleasure its given me! -Head
  7. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Spacewrangler: I was just perusing the site dedicated to Garry Kasparov's 1997 rematch with Deep Blue, its fascinating. (http://www.research.ibm.com/deepblue/home/html/b.html). I'm not a very good chess player, nor have I been, but recently I've been fascinated with the levels of the game. I've always described CM to people who've never heard of it as "Chess, with guns," even though I'm not that familiar with chess. Anyway, the more interviews with Kasparov I began to read, the more pulled in I became. Then, I thought "wouldn't it be cool to play Garry Kasparov in a tournament style, best of 7 (or whatever) game of CM." Then I thought, heck, who else would I love to play? So, here's my list of top 5 opponents I would love to play in CM: 1) George Patton 2) Erwin Rommel 3) Garry Kasparov 4) Norman Schwarzkopf 5) My clone (if I had one). Looking forward to seeing people's lists.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I would have to say Patton. The man was a bad ass, and pure tactician! ------------------ "No man ever won a war by dieing for his country. 8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by ciks: In a recent QuickBattle I was defending small town as Germans. And I had a Reg Sharpshooter. After a few turns he buttoned up all Allied AFVs and since he had nothing to do, I targeted 2inch mortar team on the field. My sharpie aims, aims, aims, shots and guess what? He killed BOTH mortar men with a SINGLE shot! I'm sure no other unit shot at them. This seems to me as proof of existence of "Good Luck" in CM. BTW, it's cool to watch Flamethrowers destroing tanks. Try it if you hadn't seen it.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I'm not so sure if it was good luck. I happened to do the same thing with a German sharpshooter. He was Elite, and took out a U.S. flamethrower unit (consisting of two men) with one shot. Now that you've done it to, I wonder if that one shot heard could be representing two shots fired during the turn? ------------------ "No man ever won a war by dieing for his country.
