  1. Agreed. I've said before that one issue for me is that US superiority of firepower and technology can make many scenarios far too easy and leave one with a sense of anti-climax. Scenario designers should take this into account and adjust accordingly to provide really challenging battles, particularly vs AI. Some designers have done/are doing this, and there are some great battles around. Please, just keep 'em comin'!
  2. Ronft, no it wouldn't. They'd be destroyed in seconds by AT missiles, HE and Abrams.
  3. if he doesn't, Mishga, nip round and squeeze mine anytime.
  4. This game is stunningly good, providing you don't suffer mouselag/framerate/camjerk problems which quite a few people, including me, have. I'm almost (touch wood) clear of the probs now, thanks to Battlefront's ongoing patches, and a new Nvidia driver. BF offer unmatched support and development for their products, and I'm certain this issue will soon be ironed out, and other small ingame bugs eliminated too. Following that, I believe we can look forward to ongoing enhancements, add-ons and further development of a potentially outstanding game system. If you're into serious wargaming, I would say Buy it, definitely, either now, or keep reading these forums and get it after the next patch/update.
  5. Of course I hear what you're saying! I mentioned earlier, and elsewhere, that my rig should easily be able to handle everything SF can throw at it, with everything set to highest level. But up until the newest driver release I couldn't get a big SF battle running smoothly at all, even with graphics reduction, unless I dropped to very low settings. Other games were fine. Now I can. So for me, at least, its a big improvement, even if the problem still ain't solved. At least I can play properly and enjoyably whilst waiting for BF to come up with the full fix, which I've no doubt they will.
  6. I'm in the campaign, playing George Mac's excellent The Screen Part 2. Problem: I've dismounted my engineers (with protection) out where mines are suspected, but the Mark Mines icon doesn't light up, so they can't do anything. Is this a bug, or are there particular conditions for using Mark Mines?
  7. It's fantastic to finally have the game running as smoothly as it should. Without all that lag and drag it's a joy to play. I've upped visuals to Improved/Improved, and for smoothness its as good as Balanced. Will try Better later on.
  8. Just went through the pain of installing the new driver 163.67, fired up CMSF and . . . HUGE improvement. Don't have FRAPS so can't give framerates, but on Balanced/Balanced with everything else on it runs as smoothly as you would want it (albeit with some slight reduced visual detail). Allah's fist, or anything else I've checked: no more mouse lag or camera jerk. Perfecto! If I change to Best/Best, however, although there's some slight improvement over the previous driver, mouse lag and camjerk are back, with slightly jerky graphics movements. Which shouldn't happen as my rig is Core2 Duo E6600 2.4Gig, 2Gig RAM, Nvidia 7950GT (512Mg), XPHome Media Centre. Alt-Tab seems to make no difference. This is all using the ingame options, no configuring of the Nvidia Panel settings. If anyone can advise optimal settings within the Nvidia Panel I'd be grateful. Or is it best to just stick with the settings in the Game Option panel?
  9. Can anyone tell me, is it REALLY necessary to uninstall the old driver before installing the new? It says we should on the download instruction - but it's such a damn pain. When I've done it before it really messes with my desktop icons and takes ages to manually reconfigure.
  10. Okay, it's called Vietnam, was made in '87 as a tv miniseries and is available on dvd. Well worth seeing - at least, I thought so 20 years ago! Some great performances, I remember being impressed by the then unknown Nicole Kidman and telling people at the time that she was destined for stardom.
  11. They call it the Wonderer, yeah the Wonderer. It wonders round and round and round and round . . . .
  12. I watched the first episode of The Unit and was deeply disappointed. Just full of cliches and US machismo. Like something from the seventies taking itself far too seriously. Did anyone ever see an Aussie tv series called Vietnam, or Nam or something similar back in the eighties or early nineties? It hung around a young Aussie conscript's experience in Nam, and his inability to readjust to life back home. Co-starred a very young, still red-haired Nicole Kidman as his sister, way before superstardom.I think she was about 19. Very good series, moving and disturbing. And yeah, I remember Rat Patrol as a kid. Had a great theme tune, as I recall (though I can't actually remember it now). [ September 08, 2007, 06:18 AM: Message edited by: handihoc ]
  13. I wonder what he means by 'list'.
  14. I wonder what Hawkmek means by issues.
  15. I wonder what he means by 'nice one'.
  16. In the campaign, Route Lightning mission, I noticed unexplained explosions at the objective end, close to Grease obj. Thought it might be an unannounced artillery bombardment on suspected enemy positions even though the briefing says no artillery. Eventually discovered it's the Syrians firing saggers into the dirt about 150 metres in front of them (!!). My troops are still at the near end, thousands of metres away! Also, in this mission, the Syrian inf take virtually no offensive action against my assaulting inf.
  17. Solved the prob by going to Nvidia settings and removing SF from Prog Settings. So something I'd done in there, not sure what, which had given me slight performance and graphics improvement, was apparently causing the bug.
  18. I've just been hit by the invisible inf bug. It only seems to apply to inf dismounting from vehicles. They're there, but invisible. Also, spotted enemy units suddenly don't show up either, so I can't see what my units are firing at or what is firing at them. This has just happened for thefirst time, six battles into the campaign. XPmediacentre SP2.
  19. I've tried all the recommendations here, including running at 1024x768, but sadly it gives minimal improvement, if any at all. Any larger battles remain mouse-laggy and cam-jerky.
  20. Just want to say how impressed I am by the visuals in v1.03. Even the dreary old desert floor is fantastically detailed, with bits of shale and pebbles and lifelike grains etc. The rubble, the rocks . . . it's almost photo-realism. Oh yeah, and the light at dawn reflecting off the vehicles. Quite amazing. Well done, BF! [ August 31, 2007, 03:33 PM: Message edited by: handihoc ]
  21. PS I installed the new Nvidia drivers, but sadly they've not improved the mouse lag/camera jerk.
  22. Hmm, just tried Blasting another house wall and the guys charged through the hole just like they were told. So slight inconsistency there for some reason. Now I think I'm gonna sit back with something pleasing and just gaze at those lovely leaves on the trees swaying in the breeze . . . . Oh yeah, and those gorgeous rock formations too. Cool. 23. In my Options screen there's no Left-Click compatability option. Haven't had chance to play properly yet, but loving the new graphics. Just tested the Blast order. As stated elsewhere, it now works fine on compound walls (troops will run through blasted hole) but on buildings, the blast order works, but troops then prefer to run round and enter via the door. So far 1.03 seems a big improvement though. Great work BF! [ August 31, 2007, 04:58 AM: Message edited by: handihoc ]
