  1. Well, its been a long hiatus but I'm back among the CM crowd again. Ordered the game Wednesday night and received it yesterday (Monday). I thought it would be longer considering many were waiting for the game. I been up all night playing with the game and all I can say is Wow!. BTS has another hit on their hands for sure. Cant wait to see what the mod community does with the new game. Lot of good gaming to come I'm sure. Looking forward to it. I wish you well, ~Skott~
  2. Hello, I myself would like to see some great factual stories of heroes from the German, Italian, and Russian side. I'm sure there are alot of really good heroism and human tragedy there too. Of course certain groups wouldn't want any idolizing of Nazi Germany so I dont expect anything to come about. But movies like Das Boot proves it can be done with the right tact. Yes, the korean War is muchly forgotten too. I aso would enjoying seeing the Korean theatre get more attention. Havent seen a good WWI movie in some time either. Seems like Hollywood concentrates mostly on the American Civil War and WWII. ~Skott~
  3. Them damn Trojans... If they ain't stealing the most beautiful woman in the world then their invading our computer systems or forcing us to include them in our romantic activities. Whats up with that? ::laughs:: ~Skott~
  4. This has been talked about before here. I have spoken on it myself. Windows 98 will work and utilize 128 MB of RAM or better. The issue is cost vs performance. Tests showed that if you go from 64 MB RAM to 128 MB RAM performance goes up 45% plus. If I remember the article correctly it was like 45%-60% increase. But to go from 128 MB RAM to 256 MB RAM you will only see an icrease of another 6%-9% in performance. Now each user's pc will have some variance in performance but those numbers are the average. So now the question to the user is this. Is it worth the cost of that extra 128 MB RAM to get that 6%-9% increase? Back when RAM modules were sky high the general theory was 'no'. It's really up to owner of the pc as to wether he/she should or not upgrade. If you think you can't play CM joyously with 128 MB of RAM then it's my opinion you got a problem with your pc somewhere cause I'm running it on one pc with a PIII 500 MHz processor, 128MB RAM, and a 16MB 3DFX Voodoo3 video card. And I have no problems whatsoever. I've heard others here say they are running it on less than what I have and they are experiencing no problems. Again the choice is up to you. Is it worth it to you to pay the extra money to get that few more percent or are you happy with it as is? I'm not trying to talk anyone out of buying more RAM but know the facts before you do plunk down that money. Hardcore gamers tend to paying anything for just a little more performance but it comes with a price. Also be aware that today's video cards with their own onboard RAM are now taking the work off the Intel/AMD processors and allowing your processor to do even more without bogging down. Happy Gaming, ~Skott~
  5. 109 Gustav writes: And just wait for the scare when you open the package, and the only thing in there is the manual. (Inside joke.) ::laughs:: Yeah, when I first saw that too I nearly cried. ~Skott~
  6. The dreaded Blue Screen of death? CM wont be a cause of that problem. Sounds like thats either going to be most likely a video or O/S issue. ~Skott~

  8. When Hollywood is involved its a sure bet history will be distorted. ~Skott~
  9. I never have kept track of my playing time. Sometimes a session can go all day. Sometimes just a quick QB before work. But I say it was woth every penny I paid for it and then some. My thanks again to BTS for the great game. ~Skott~
  10. Just to let y'all know I took and transferred my earlier reply over to the General Discussion section and started a thread there. That way in case they close down this thread for being in the wrong place and for being off topic we can still talk about it over there. ~Skott~
  11. Later this year Intel will roll out its new Pentium IV processor chip(Titanium?). The current P IV's are made on .18 micron die. The new ones will be made on .13 micron die. The .13 was to be originally released but AMD forced Intel's plans to put it out sooner on a .18 micron die. It was never meant to be .18 die. Now the bad news. Using this new Pentium IV, all these old RAM modules y'all are talking about will be useless. The new Pentium IV will not support the older RAM modules. You'll have to use the new RAM modules. And they will be at least twice the price for the older ones according to the experts. What does this mean for us the users? Yep, a new chip will require an entirely new motherboard, new RAM modules that is twice as expensive as the old ones. The upside is that if you are only upgrading an older PC with RAM, the current RAM modules will get cheaper till Intel stops making them. And I suspect that will happen not long after the new Pentium IV comes out. Intel will want to force eveyone to the newer technology. Supposedly Win95/98 doesnt see much benefit with more than 128 MB of RAM. Some increase will be seen but its not cost effective according to the experts. Windows ME supposedly likewise wont see much of a performance gain with anything over 256 MB of RAM. You can add more but again cost vs effeciency doesnt really support the upgrade price. One rumor that I havent been able to confirm is that when Windows XP (Formerly knowns as Whistler)comes out nothing less than a new Pentium IV (.13 micron) will be able to function with it. According to the rumor the Windows XP is supposed to be a true 64 bit system and the new Pentium IV is a 64 bit processor. Any processor less than the new Pentium IV won't be compatible. Again, this is the rumor. Windows XP is in its second version of beta testing so I dont know how people are getting it to work without the new Pentium IV chip, cause its not out yet. Doesnt make sense to me but when I hear more I'll post it. Meanwhile, Happy Gaming. ~Skott~
  12. "Done in by the bears, I guess." Damn them bears!!! We need more bull! Um, no wait.. we need more bulls!! Um, no thats not right either... DAMMIT! Folks, this is what happens when you play the stock market instead of CM. No money for a PC. No money for upgrade. No Money for game. No game for gameplay. It's a mad, mad, mad, world we live in. Even worse without CM. ~Skott~
  13. Shadow Replied "And besides, if we voted think of all the trouble we'd have to go through trying to get florida's votes to post." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now wait a minute here... I'll have you know I did my patriotic and civil duty and voted like a responsible adult in the last election. Twice! ::grins:: Oh, and for the idea of a elected censor board? I vote... NAY!! BTS and the moderators here do a fine fine job. ~Skott Karlsson~ Proud Citizen of Florida
  14. A delivery in 4 days to U.K.? That would be an exceptionally fast delivery in my opinion. I live in Florida and I placed my order on a Wednesday and received it on Saturday and I considered that good time. I've heard people in Canada wait as long as 7 or 8 weeks. There was one fellow in South Africa, forget his name now, he was at 2 months last I heard. Never did hear if he got it or not. My guess any overseas or out of country deliveries are going to take a while. My guess its a combination of U.S. Postal and whatever your home country postal service thats slowing it up. Once it leaves BTS its really out of their hands and at the mercy of the various postal services. Perhaps oversea and out of country orders should go through Federal Express or some such more reliable deleivery system? At least with one of those services you can track its travel. Unfortunately it costs more. Does anyone know if BTS provides Federal Express delivery? ~Skott~
  15. Well, I been waiting for Duke Nukem Forever for like FOREVER! WarCraft III is also on my list of wants. The only Wargame I look forward to trying is that SPWaW, but at over 300 MB of download I'm waiting to get cable modem or DSL before downloading that puppy. Just yesterday I went out and bought Zeus: Master of Olympus. Havent had time to play around with it too much yet. Earlier tonight I was going over the tutorials. With a 40+ hour job and school I dont have time for games like I used to. ~Skott~
  16. For all you grognards out there. Does anyone know the title of that song that I believe starts out something like... 'Over hill, over dale.. We will hit the dusty trail as the cassions go rolling along' My apologies in advance if I butchered the lyrics in any way. ~Skott~

  18. Greg, All the more reason why BTS should consider adding a CM2 section to this board. Just one folder titled General Discussion at this point would be adequate I should think. then once the game actually ships a couple more on Tips, Scenarios, and whatnot just like they have for CM1. Just my .2 cents worth. ~Skott~
  19. Hmmm... lets hope thats a CM map and not a planned mission on some government installation. J/K ::chuckle:: ~Skott~
  20. I clean my game CDs regularly wether they need it or not and store them in a jewel case when not in actual use. I also inspect the jewel cases to make sure they have no dust or dirt in them. Its a good practice to get into. Ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure.
  21. Thanks for you help men. Most appreciated. ~Skott~
  22. Just wanted to drop a quick note. I have had several people send me the link to where that Panzerlied song, from the Battle of the Bulge movie, can be downloaded. Only problem is that those links I have been receiving plus the ones posted here are all coming up as "Not Found" Sorry folks, its a dead end. Anyone know a different site where it can be found? The link over on Manx's link is a dead link also. ~Skott~
  23. Dang! I fell into a test trap!! What I get for being a beer loving redneck. Intoxicating, isnt it? ::laughing:: ~Skott~
