Thick fog at night does a little something.

Francesco, A shell ricochet is like a ball bouncing off of a wall. A shell breaking up is like a glass breaking against a wall. I hope that helps.

Thanks guys.I just didn't want to dig through all of those bmp's and find out it wasn't possible.

I'm working on some face mods and have noticed the pale pink hands don't match too well.Does anyone know if these can be changed or is this not possible?

The tension that makes this game so great
saru3000 replied to Rifle's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Rifle, I know where you're coming from. In one battle I sent a Sherman to out flank a KT that came out of nowhere.I assumed I knew which way the KT was going to go so I set the waypoints and hit GO. To my dismay I find the KT had turned and was now cutting across the Sherman's path.My sherman fires a quick shot from 5m away and misses. He zips past the KT as it slowly tries to turn its turrent to catch me.At this point I'm behind the KT with a clear shot at his squishy parts but instead of firing the sherman starts bringing his hull around. The KT now has his turret facing me but he's also bringing his hull around(this all seems like strange behavior with them just 30m apart). So it's a race to see if I can get hull around before he does and takes away any chance of a kill. While this is going on I'm on the edge of my chair yelling "FIRE,FIRE"(Good thing the wife's a heavy sleeper). They both get around at the same time and I assume I'm toast but- his shot:miss mine:ricochet his : penetration no kill! mine:ricochet his:miss mine:a hit on his track!! his:well,my luck couldn't last.I'm a bonfire. He put up a good fight by immobilizing the KT which made for a very easy target. Quite a bit o' fun packed into 2 minutes. [This message has been edited by saru3000 (edited 12-08-2000).] -
So does elevation and facing affect the chances for a penetration with a no-kill result? Say you fire up at a sherman on a hill.Is there any greater chance ,that if you do get a penetration, that it'll enter the side and exit the top? Or having a shell pass through the sides of a halftrack.

I'd really, really like to see this feature implemented. I've played a few battles that have ended with me wondering if that last counter-attack would've succeeded or just what would have happened if that Tiger had had the time to get around the flank. And other times I've just wanted to destroy an already beaten opponent for the bloody mindedness of it all(sometimes it's good for the ego). It could be done like Kampfgruppe. The final points get added up,the winner declared and then the option to keep playing would be given.Anything done after the official end would have no effect on the points total. If you chose to stop playing you'd be shown the normal end of game options. Sure,it's not important to the game but sometimes it's like reading a good book and finding the last few pages missing. p.s. I guess while I'm wasting space I'd like to know if it would be possible for a future release of CM to allow the making of maps in 3D.Placing terrain and deciding elevation would be a lot easier if you could see the results right away.

And don't forget the buildings. Now we can wonder why CM doesn't model camels.

Ok Reworded and no A Bomb refrences

quote: Probably with Germany as the attacker, seeing that the Japanese must have looked totally inferior than anything else on earth to them (even the American public viewed the Japanese as sort of primitive monkeys which was obviously not the case). The problem with that is that the first step in any war is to dehumanize the enemy. Both sides put out a ton of propaganda portraying the other as monsters.I'm sure that both, Germany and Japan, put out some propaganda that showed the other in a favorable light during the war.Although it wouldn't have taken long to switch gears if they were to face each other. Something I find interesting is looking at the propaganda treatment China and Japan received.China was obviously portrayed as heroic, downtrodden, etc.Quite a bit of propaganda against Japan highlighted the racial difference between Caucasians and Japanese in an exaggerated and surreal way(as "inhuman monkies").How do you explain this to your racially simiular allies? "China we support you and find you worthy allies. Please ignore our revulsion at your physical differences." This stoking of hatred along racial lines must have made it pretty tough on Asian-Americans of the time. Enough of my blathering...BARTENDER-A round for the house! ------------------ I love the smell of bacon in the morning...it's the smell of breakfast. -

It's a case of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".They both knew that the U.K. and the U.S. weren't going to tolerate their respective expansions(too nice a word,I know)and both feared the Soviet Union. P.S. The Japanese also held themselves as racially superior.Neither side was above developing a blind spot and getting help where they could.Hypocrisy on a national level is nothing new. -
Yes, Freddy Mercury and the "Judy Garland" brigade surged through the Seigfried Line on... Um,I'm sorry.I'm suddenly feeling very lost and confused...where's my blasted medication... ------------------ I love the smell of bacon in the morning...it's the smell of breakfast.

CM joins my classic games of all time list(slightly OT)

quote:- Pirates! Gold. I missed this the first time it came out on computer, but found it on Sega. I can't find the game for sale anywhere. I did find an old abandonware version on the net, but I had some comp troubles a while back and lost it. The site no longer exists so I'm without it... No matter though. This is another one of those games that was so good the plot was unessecary. If anyone knows where I can pick up a copy I'd appreciate it greatly. You can pick this up at Classic-Trash.com.They have it in the normal, gold and windows version. There are also emulation sites where you can get programs that emulate C-64,Apple(IIe,c,gs),Atari and other old systems. You can also get the games or if you still have your old sytems, learn how to transfer your games to your computer to run on an emulator. WARNING: Playing a game of Kampfgruppe and then one of CMBO can cause a severe case of whiplash. ------------------ I love the smell of bacon in the morning...it's the smell of breakfast. -

You should download an emulator.I downloaded one for the IIe and I'm in "bad graphics/good gameplay" heaven. -
Problem with tank behavior vs pillbox
saru3000 replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I've had the same problem with firing smoke from behind. It seems that unless you're within a certain arc concerning the rear door that your tanks will act as if they're in front of the pillbox(with no chance to kill it they fire smoke). My problem is that I've had a Sherman (on 3 occasions) sitting directly behind a pillbox (10m) and not able to destroy it until they've gotten 2 or 3 rear door penetrations and 2 shots into the concrete. Conversely, my pillboxes get knocked out from the front, almost immediately, from the other side of the map. So I've started turning my pillboxes around and having my men fire through the slot in the door.It works marvelously. -
(O/T) History Channel cracks me up

(Something that always made me wonder is how the Japs fit into the whole scheme of things with Germany. The Third Reich never struck me as a place for orientals. So if the Axis had won would Japan and Germany eventually have come to blows? The Japanese don't exactly fit the Aryan master race model)Anybody have any comments? Yeah, how about we stop using the word "Jap" on the board. -
Am I seeing things? Mortar Round
saru3000 replied to bfamily33's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I love sitting at ground level during an artillery barage.Listening to long rounds passing over, watching the screen shake-it's very immersive. You can almost hear the infantry saying their prayers. The first time the enemy called in a smoke barrage on a hill I held had me impressed too. The little details definitely make an already great game better. -
This board is a thing of beauty.

It's going to be great watching CM evolve and get better with each release. It'll be like having a child of my own. Me:"CM,did you work on those bugs like I told you to? and look at all of those mods you have lying around. That's it no desert for you." ------------------ Yes, It's a dirty job but someone has to groom these monkies.

I had the same problem. The patch has its own EXE.Just check the CM program file. ------------------ Yes, It's a dirty job but someone has to groom these monkies.
