  1. You think this one is any better? http://www.ankkurinvarsi.net/jaeger/AT_RIFLES2.htm Boys AT Rifle ; According to my old man, it could only be fired prone. When fired it bodily lifted the gunner off the ground and dropped him straight down and onto his 'family jewels'. Quite the incentive to engage the enemy! Cheers, Rifle
  2. You could have at least given us a scenario called "The Chemist's Shop" ... Ah Stalingrad ... isn't that the "Barrikady " works over there ? Cheers, Rifle
  3. ok, I'll give it a go ... rfortier@shaw.ca Cheers, Rifle
  4. Situation is Canadian Armegeddon: Long rectangular wheat field the spotter team was in hide mode in the field but near side looking up to the east and not being fired at until told to call down arty. Armoured car with 75mm (Puma ?) started firing after first arty rounds landed and was soon followed by an infantry unit further back in next wheat field. I won't claim the wheatfield is a GOOD hiding spot but sheesh the team isn't firing just looking and talkin on radio. Cheers, Rifle
  5. This has ALWAYS baffled me. I have a spotter team at 100+ m/yds away from the nearest German unit (in a wheat field) and it's getting fired at by 2 units that both have other units closer in. And they found his whereabouts how ??? (Remembering that his radio is his only weapon) And BTW I don't think that seeing a radio antennae at 100+ meters is do-able in the heat of battle. I just hope the AI treats my opponent the same way. Cheers, Rifle
  6. And how about the 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th (maybe more) battle of Kharkov Cheers, Rifle
  7. had the same thing happen in PBEM game - my MG crew surrendered to the Germans while behind my lines. In the next turn it (2 of 5 left) marched into captivity. Was the brautwurst that good ? Cheers, Rifle
  8. My step-father lost an eardrum to a friendly sniper in France ... He was an arty FOO with the 12th (Cdn) F.A. and bet Sgt Tommy Prince of the Winnipeg Rifles that he couldn't hit a German that was digging a trench a fair distance away. One lost eardrum one KIA ditch digger. Snipers in the Cdn. Army were sometimes referred to as 'scouts' <G> (See "The Pictorial History of the Canadian Army Overseas 1939-1945" p.198) BTW - Sgt Tommy Prince was a sniper and rather than the standard Lee-Enfield rifle, he had a Ross with telescopic sights. He was also from one of the 'First Nations'. Cheers, Rifle
  9. My biggest complaint about CbtM has to do with acquiring targets. 1) This afternoon, I was playing (by e-mail) TF Butler and had the following situation happen - night scenario btw. A bazooka team moved until T+39 and destroyed a Pz IV (60m away) by T+50. So in 11 sec, the team ... - located the Mk IV (that had moved) - loaded the bazooka - hit the target on the 1st shot. This also happens in reverse where the tank acquires the AT team way too easily. Here's a for-instance, 2) Barraque des Fraitures, bazooka team is hidden and a buttoned-up Pz moves to within 50 meters. The Pz is to their right front and showing a 3/4 view. Team un-hides and targets Pz - misses with 2 shots and dies while taking 4 shots in 40 secs from the Pz. I have a problem understanding how it is possible for a restricted vision Pz can spot the bazooka team in such a short time (in this case it was 15 sec)or how the bazooka team can spot the non-firing Pz. in 10 sec. Is it me or is this something that should be looked at ? Cheers, Rifle
  10. It only gets better ... The range of scenarios and Operations (linked scenarios) is incredible. BTW The PBEM can't be beat - much better than vs AI Cheers, Rifle
  11. Like many of you, I enjoy playing conversions of SL/ASL scenarios in CbtM. What struck me today though is how the makers of the CbtM conversions are listed as the authors of these scenarios. The scenario that brought it home for me was "The Big Cat's Den" - available at http://w1.312.telia.com/~u31213280/index.htm. The 'author' is listed as marko (this is an example - I'm not picking on marko) but I just happen to know the author of the original CH scenario and know he put a lot of time in doing the research and putting it into ASL format. Now the ethics question ; Should the makers of the CbtM conversion be listed as authors or 'Conversion by :' and the maker of the original SL/ASL scenario listed as 'Original Designer ;' ? IMO the original designers deserve their due. Cheers, Rifle
  12. Better do it right ... My old man was an arty observer for the Cdn 12th Field Arty Reg (in Priests at the time) and got a Croix de Guerre from the French for his actions during this battle. Cheers, Rifle
  13. It's turn 4 of the 2nd battle in a PBEM of the Wiltz campaign. My beleaguered US troops are in tough vs the the German horde attacking up the valley to Wiltz. There on one side of the valley is a 57mm AT gun firing as fast as it can on the bow of a PzIVG with the expected results. I watched as shell after shell hit the Pz monster only to have the warhead shatter - 12 / 13 / 14 shots in 2 turns and then ... hit on the Pz - gun disabled. I couldn't believe my eyes - the monster defanged. No matter what else happens, this was one of those events that marks the battle ... Cheers, Rifle
  14. Well, I guess my biggest problem is thinking that the crew of that 2nd Mk IV would have to 1) acquire the target (the bazooka team) and 2) traverse and depress the turret and finally 3) take the shot. It took them less than 15 sec to do this - just amazing. Cheers, Rifle [This message has been edited by Rifle (edited 11-24-2000).]
  15. Was playing Merry Xmas at Hemroulle (sp ?) when the following situation happened. After many turns of succesfully hiding, I ordered a bazooka team to target a Pz IVH at its 2 o'clock position at 60 m. (ft ?) with another in its 3 o'clock but 150 or more meters away. T+ 0 Bazooka team aims T+ 5 Bzooka team fires at Pz IV H(and misses) T+20 2nd Pz IVH fires 1st shot at bazooka team T+58 2nd Pz IVH (same as T+20) fires its 4th shot at the bazooka team. That's 4 rounds in less than 40 seconds. Even with the proper round in the tube, that's damn fast. Anyone else think this is TOO fast ? Oh yeah the bazooka team died on the 4th shot. Cheers, Rifle
